It frequently baffles me how wrong people are in their judgements of player pace...

I’m surprised that Impey isn’t mentioned in that group. He looked very slick from where I was sitting a few times on Monday.

Depends what the discussion is. Max speed can debunk a claim of being “too slow”. It is impossible for a player to be in the top 5 out of 44 players for max speed but be “too slow” for anything.
The too slow is in reference to the players in the position on the field that requires acceleration and speed more than any other position. Its not in reference to the average footballer. No one is saying he is slow relative to the average footballer, but only to the good small forward pockets. Name me one great small forward pocket who was not grease lightening? There isnt one. If Gregson is to have a future it is as a mid or flanker. Not as a forward pocket. He is to slow to be a good player in that position nor is he all that good at roving the ball off the packs.

I like Gregson. My reasons for liking him can be countered by my reasons for not liking other players. It's funny how some players you're prepared to give opportunity to and others you think it's wasted time.

Even without injury issues Gregsons been up and down, I've had some doubt but I just like him. Maybe it's he's intent?? Not sure, but I like him in the team, I have confidence in him.

milne was fast. quicker then gregson. milne could also rove a ball off a pack going at his top speed enabling him to burn his opponents.

The only slow good forward pockets i can think of were darren jarman and paul chapman (who both spent some time as successful forward pockets even though most of there career was up the ground). Both Jarman and Chapman had unique skills to make up for their pace though that Gregson doesnt have. Chapman could crash a contest with his big body whilst Jarman had some of the best evasive skills in the game.

Gregson is not a foward pocket player.

He is an outside link up mid.

That’s what he was as a junior.

It’s where he played in his first promising season in 2015.

Scott plays him out of position because he’s small and nippy and we have no one else to play fwd pocket.

Gregson is being wasted in the fwd pocket and it’s having a detrimental effect on his career.

Solution: Scott - just play the bloke up the field as an outside running link man that runs and carries. FFS it’s not that hard to see the benefits for all parties Chris

From what I remember he was played as a high half forward or on the wing.

Is that not where he was when Smith gave him a drubbing on Monday?

Gregson has played on a wing and high HFF in each of our opening games, not sure what you’ve been watching.

Lol, maybe actually watch a game his role hasn't changed at all...

I'd bring in Murdoch for him... Even though today he found the ball it bit more.

His Disposal Efficiency is sub-par, get's beaten in one on one contests (mainly due to his size), not many tackles or 1% from him either. Murdoch is a much better option on the outside IMO.

He had three inside 50s on the weekend for three goal assists. For reference, the AFL leader for goal assists is Dylan Shiel with six for the season, Gregson got half that tally in one game. He also had five score involvements. He's actually very strong over the ball and almost half of his disposals on the weekend were contested. He's also equal sixth for most tackles at the club this year.

He was always going to start slow having been out of the game for 1.5 years but he recorded personal season highs in kicks, handballs, disposals, marks, tackles, clearances, goal assists, and inside 50s against the Eagles on the weekend. Dropping him now would be ludicrous.

Interesting stats, I'll certainly be paying more attention to him... He needs to lift his disposal efficiency, and he needs to hold his ground against bigger bodies when its one-on-one...
