Both Joel Corey and Corey Enright are having massive seasons. Enright has stepped up massively after a few slammed him on this board and has been crucial the last few games when the game is still there to be won. Joel is easily up there with Ling, Bartel and Ablett as an important part of our midfield, especially so as he is a very good clearance player.

Just wanted to to dedicate a thread to two players wo deserve a bit of a rap.

Yeah. I thinkly we rightly slammed them at the time, yet they've really stepped up and becoming crucial parts of the team. With all the attention sitting on Bartel and Junior, Corey has been free to tear through the centre and recapture his 2005 form (especially as he's no longer being played out of position); and you get the impression that after so many injuries Boris knows what is at stake and is desperate to cement his place. His first quarters against the Pies and Dogs were absolutely outstanding, really set up the win.

Always liked the both of em.
Enright has copped some flak over the years, had a few injuries so prolly hasn't had the chance to progress like Corey has...
Kudos to the both of them on their fine seasons...

Joel Corey is easily our most underrated player. Love the way he plays his footy.

They are finally playing the positions/roles that are best suited to them. Simple as that.
Now that Gaz and Chappy are spending more time in the middle, and Wojak is also fit and firing this year, they are no longer having to fill those roles any more, which now means their talent is coming through.
Joel knows how to win the contested ball and get it clear. Probably the best in the side. The way he gets it out to Gaz for a bolt is great to watch.
Enright has always been a talent, but his weaknesses were shown up by the role he was having to play last year. He is one of the better, if not the best, readers of the game in our side. So often in the right place at the right time.

Our balance is right this year. I'm thinking that the challenge the playing group handed out to Gaz about getting fitter in order to play more in the middle is paying off in huge amounts.

First half of 2005 I thought Enright was leading our B&F, before his injury. It set him back a lot, but he's now moved to that level again and beyond.

Joel Corey is my favourite player, he's underrated and he almost always plays well, though his kicking still needs improvment (set shots on goal anyone?).

In fact, two years ago, I named my cat 'Corey' after both Joel Corey and Corey Enright and my other cat is named 'Milly' because of Milburn.
:p

Corey Enright i think has alway been capable of being a very good consistent player. Its just when the poor bloke starts to string a few together he gets an injury which sets him back again.

Joel Corey i have always thought his best footy is in the guts and no surprise he is playing well when left to do his job. He is very underated his ability to get the hardball and find someone free is brilliant.

Both very important to our structure.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I think we slammed both of them for the same reason - disposal by foot. It is the only real weakness either of them have. And you can argue it's becoming less of a weakness every week. But they are extremely solid and effective players in our team. Personally if Corey was a better kick I think he'd be a superstar of the competition. As it is I like how he's the underrated part of Ablett, Bartel and himself.

Have been a big fan of Enright over the past few years, and haven't enjoyed some of the doubters.
And JC has a vital position in the team - if the cats play the Eagles come finals, it will be Ling to Kerr, Gazza and Cousins head to head, and Corey on Judd. (If Rooke gets back he may have a go on Judd when he goes forward.) I think Joel is a great match this year for Judd, if Judd is at all hampered by injury I think the csts mid field may have theirs covered. Which is a good thought, as over the ground I reckon the cats are far stronger.
Go Cats!

Disposal was always my problem with Enright. I thought that he won the ball well but his finishing was ordinary. When he kicked the ball to a leading player the ball spent too much time in the air and was easily spoiled or it went over their head. He seemed to have no trouble with kicking at goals but could not put the ball into space for a player to run into. Joel Corey still misses some set shots that should be a sinch for players of his calibre.

This was supposed to be an appreciation thread...
