Yeah, kudos to Kane for not getting physical. Having a crack about Will's dead father was much more classy.

I love how people always defend their own players in instances like this.

It was very poor form. Minson himself is extremely contrite and remorseful about it and realises it was a huge mistake.

Don't try to justify it, accept it and move on.

Very poor form from Minson. At least he has apologised for his actions.

Very poor form from Cornes, who attacked Minson's dead father.

But thats obviously OK, isn't it Port fans?

How do you know if Cornes hasn't apologized to Minson yet?
Cornes wouldn't have said anything about Minson's deceased father if he hadn't been provoked by an unnecessary comment. Jesus we can end up going round in circles here. Two wrongs don't make a right do they?

We KNOW that Minson has apologised cause he had the guts to do it behind closed doors and to also show what appeared to be genuine remorse on TV.

There has been ABSOLUTLEY NO REPORTING OF AN APOLOGY FROM CORNES regarding his cowardly attack on a DEAD PARENT.

Do you think that Rucci wouldnt have fallen over in defending Cornes if HE HAD OF APOLOGISED to Minson?

Two wrongs don't make a right but its a little rich complaining about Minsons actions when your own player didnt exactly cover himself in glory and then gets his Daddy and Rucci to come to bat for him.

Oh yes of course. As you could quite clearly tell by the tone of my post I condone all forms of onfield sledging against deceased paternal and maternal figures.

Instead of spoiling for a fight, how about you put your teeth back in and have a nice hot cup of...
coffee

No they don't - and majority of Bulldog fans (and Minson by his own admission) will say that Minson crossed the line.
Misunderstanding or the situation or not, he shouldn't have said what he did, nor should have Kane replied in the way he did.

At the very least, Minson deserves some credit for volunteering what he said to the football manager before any formal complaint was lodged, obviosuly feels very contrite about the incident.

I think we've all said thing in the heat of the moment that we wished we could take back. At least Minson showed enough courage to apologise.

I'm in no way condoning any comments that aren't related to the person on the footy field and their playing abilities btw, but can understand how these things happen.

And yeah, as a parent, I'd belt anyone that had a sledge about my kids. :) Kane did extremely well to restrain himself.

What about if someone had a crack at your deceased father?

I don't think anyone is defending this (if it happened - confirmed?), but in the heat of the moment of having someone abuse you over your sick child, well what is worse, verbally retaliating in this way, or fair dinkum snotting the bloke? Neither would be condoned, but both would be pretty hard to hold back from doing. IMO Kane has done well to not drop a knee in the next pack and get rubbed out for 4 weeks.

I hate it when the media go overboard with the story. Yes we get the fact that something bad happened and something wrong was said, but can't the media keep their noses out of it and let the players apologise and talk to each other?

yeah, that little tidbit came from Sam Lane's "sources" What proof there is that he said anything, i'd like to know. Just seems like rumour in order to make WMisen seem like less of an A-hole. Quite frankly, i'd rather Kane do that then snot the bloke.

Massive storm in a teacup - what Minson said was a little bit in poor taste but hardly threatening or derogatory.

All of these incidents like this one, Montgomery's and even Selwood's are a massive beat up in the press, then there's mediation etc it's just promotes a dobbing, soft little bitch culture. In the old days you could sort it out on the field, now any form of retribution except dobbing to the umpire and you yourself will be strung over the coals by the media and the AFL. The AFL has created this little bitch culture and I for one am sick of it. Sticks and Stones people. Harden the ____ up! The fact that this is big news at all just shows how soft we have all gotten.

The football field is a workplace. Comments such as this are completely unacceptable in the workplace and are therefore equally unacceptable on the sporting field.

Any commment Minson made in realtion to the health of Kane's son is inappropraite and unacceptable and action should be taken by the AFL.

Certain standards of decency need to be maintained in society and whilst there would be more leeway on the football field than in normal society, personal abuse about the family is clearly over the line.

But this will be allowed to be buried by the next news story and players will continnue to act like idiots until they are punished for unacceptable behaviour.

Question - Is Jack the middle name of Kane's son or is Eddy Jack supposed to be one name? It just seems unusual that both names are used all the time? Just curious.

I miss the biff and have no problem with insults being thrown, but draw the line at two insults - life threatening illnesses and involving kids. Anything else is fair game IMO.

Yeah I don't know, maybe I'm a less sensitive than most, but I honestly don't think the Minson one was all that bad, and I didn't think the Montgomery one was either, but hey I guess I've never had Cancer and my kids are healthy. The Selwood one I can see it maybe making my blood boil, but the closest thing I can relate it to was being called a Wog. Sure sometimes I would get into scraps over it, but on the whole it didn't really bother me that much. These days it would be considered racial vilification.

I just prefer the old fashion method of getting someone back on the field, not having a cry to the umps or AFL about it. It reeks of this sanitised, big brother, lag to authorities soft society we are increasingly becoming. The Clown supporter who is crapping on about the footy field being a "workplace" is further proof of what you get when you allow such attitudes to permeate the game. We want our footballers tough, hard and uncompromising - not putting in claims for work place harrassment, bullying, stress leave and RDO's.

Here is a great example of different attitudes in society these days. One would be considered "old School, Out of touch, Living in the past etc ", the other is considered "Politically Correct, the way the world is today, sensible, understanding etc"

Personally, I think the above shows how ____ing soft the world is today and how I wish the moderate attitudes of the not so distant past were considered the norm today.

I don't condone anyone abusing someone about their sick child but if what has been reported is anywhere near accurate (you are selfish playing you should be at home with your sick son) then this is the greatest load of crap ever.

I was so sure from all the hoo haa that what was said must have been far worse (hey cornes, you've got as much heart as your kid or similar)

I would suggest the non watered down media version is closer to this than you might think - if KG is anything to go by - he has stated point blank it was significantly worse than what was reported.

KG is the village idiot though. I think it's a far more reliable indication of the unpleasantness of the exchange that Will Minson felt obliged to go to significant lengths to apologise. It's also to his credit that he's done so.

and yes just like Mark William's apology to Chocko he really meant it;)

The only reason he looked concerned on TV last night was due to embarassment for being caught.

That's what the cynic in me thought last night when I watched it and why I am dubious of the Sam Lane "source" that Kane sledged him back about his father. If he was so remorseful of what he said, wouldn't he be pissed of with a retort about his dead father?

I think there should be an AFLPA / AFL code of conduct rule that a player can not make a public apology pr spin statement until he has made contact with the aggrieved player. I'm starting to get sick of this "I left a message on his voicemail" crap. ____ it, if you were really remorseful and not worried about the pr spin why cant you make 10 attempts to get in contact before you run to the media.
