Seriously this is a storm in a teacup. People saying 'disgrace', etc get some perspective - it's a professional game, you take any psychological edge you can get.

Port supporters with short memories - I'm sure D Hardwick or J Carr never said anything unsavoury to get under their opponents skin..

Your either a troll or a fool or both!

Short memories? I don't remember Carr or Hardwick ever having to apologise to other players for unsavoury and inappropriate sleges.

Get back under your rock idiot.

Possibly because not all footballer's fathers are preeminent media figures with the ability to pontificate on whatever they see fit.

does this make minson worse than adam selwood?

ohhhh wait, selwood plays for west coast. culture problems and so on.

You're thinking about Brett Montgomery sledging Adam Ramanauskas. There was a huge storm about that even though Monty, like Minson had apologised. Some things are unacceptable. This was one of them. You're a goose if you can't see that.

I love how people always defend their own players in instances like this.

It was very poor form. Minson himself is extremely contrite and remorseful about it and realises it was a huge mistake.

Don't try to justify it, accept it and move on.

It's a bit like Chinese whispers, but according to 7 news, the comment was around Kane being selfish, going to play football when he has a sick kid at home. Something along those lines.
Cheers Ford.

Poor form by Will if true, even if the general target of the sledge in question was towards Kane and not his son (if the above is what was said).

Glad he at least showed some contrition and made every effort to apologise to Kane as soon as the match ended.

On On The Couch awhile ago Sheehan interviewed Minson - who looked sick about it to be fair - and asked him whether the rumours were true that Chad returned the voicemail he'd left Kane and was 'very hostile'.

Minson said something along the lines of, "not sure where you got that info from, but I don't want to go into it".

Its hard to comment on it without knowing exactly what was said. But big Will is obviously sorry enough to go public on it, so it can't have been good.

I just think there is no need to bring children into a football sledge. IMO it is weak as the child cannot defend itself and it has capacity to hurt. You really are playing with fire when you start talking about someone elses child or wife or whoever. If you want to sledge, must better to do it on their football ability, hardness at the ball etc.

I think big Will, will learn a valuable lesson here. Players say things in the heat of battle but you shouldn't cross the line about family especially children.

I wish Kanes son all the best with his earlier health problems. I really felt for him and Kane, when Chad was talking about it at the All Australian awards some years ago.

Or racism, obviously. (Just for that nonce earlier who said 'get over it, you say and do anything to get a psychological edge LOL')

But, despite 3 pages of speculation...(inc. the very first post who "obviously" knew what was said  ) we still don't know.

Fact...FACT is that something was said to Kane Cornes who will not be taking it any further.
Minson clearly feels horrible and has publicly apologised...
...the only one's seemingly upset are Chad and Dad.

Sure, there are some things that should not be said on a footy field...
...but a) we do not know what was said here...
and b) I'm sure Kane is man enough to fight his own battles without big brother and daddy...and that mmost certainly isn't a slight against Kane.

That's not quite right. If you had a look at the Bulldogs' board, and the main board discussion you will find many Doggies supporters are equally disgusted/disappointed.

The big fella did the wrong thing. It was in extremely poor taste, and he knows it.

As others have said, credit to Kane for keeping his head. FWIW I was touched by the article re he and his son.

got to be more than something like "your a disgrace leaving your sick kid at home with a wife who just gave birth"

If it was something like "you play with as much heart as your kid has" then i could start to understand the drama but the way KG was carrying on it would want to be that bad and probably worse.

And you dont know what was said on the Chad/Wil phone conversation

Surely the same rules apply here, yet you are having a crack at the Cornses. For the record Graham was being asked about it on radio and did not sling any mud whatsover.... and basically said it wasn't anything to do with him.

...the only one's seemingly upset are Chad and Dad.
How can you say Graham is upset? I'm sure he is, but he wouldn't comment about it on the radio tonight.

This is what I hate about big footy, crow morons on the main board trying to turn it around on Chad. One of the morons is even suppose to be an admin.

which is very very different to what some people would like to believe.

Minson's an idiot and he'll cop his lumps, but saying that's just stupid, and shouldn't be said. however, it is not sledging the young lad.

which must be very disapointing to some of BF's most avid today-tonight viewers.

So you know what was said? You really think he would make an public apology just for that?

Take off your rose coloured glasses.

Definitely race / children / illness are, or should be, off limits on any sporting field. Credit to Kane for not spitting it at the time and ditto for Minson for apologising. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. ;)

Western Bulldog Will Minson sorry for Kane Cornes slur

WESTERN Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson has apologised to Port Adelaide's Kane Cornes for a personal sledge.

Minson labelled Cornes "selfish" on the mistaken understanding the All-Australian had rushed to Darwin to play on Saturday night while leaving his first son, Eddy Jack, sick in Adelaide.

Eddy Jack, 2, was born with a serious heart defect.

But Cornes arrived late in Darwin because he stayed in Adelaide for the arrival of his second son, Raphael, on Friday evening.

Minson had wrongly assumed Cornes had not travelled with the Power squad because of a setback to Eddy Jack's health.

The Western Bulldogs yesterday labelled Minson's remarks inappropriate.

The Bulldogs also allege Cornes' response to Minson was unsavory.

Neither the Bulldogs nor Port Power would repeat Minson's or Cornes' remarks.

"No malice was intended, but it is not the way to go to get under a player's skin," said Bulldogs football operations chief James Fantasia.

"Will rang Kane that night, after the game, to apologise."

Cornes, still angry at the sledge after the match, was not receptive to Minson's apology. This prompted Fantasia to seek out Power football operations manager Peter Rohde yesterday to see if mediation was required.

"We wanted to make sure Kane is comfortable with the apology," Fantasia said.

Rohde said yesterday the issue was closed.

"The players have spoken to each other and agreed the wrong thing was said," Rohde said. "Kane has accepted the apology."

The incident is the second sledge dragging a player's personal issues on to the field.

St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt was embarrassed in April when he taunted Essendon rival Andrew Lovett by saying: "You bash your f---ing missus".

In the mid-1990s the AFL introduced a racial and religious vilification code to deal with sledging based on a player's ethnic origins and faith.

But the league, the AFL Players' Association and the players say the code cannot be modified to appropriately deal with personal sledging.

Cracking touch from the Hun subeditor amongst it all.

Disgracefull from Minson, credit to Kane for not losing it.

Many a person would of.

Yeah, kudos to Kane for showing a lot more restraint than most guys would've & not losing the plot. If he wanted to take a few swings at Minson not many people would've blamed him once they knew what had been allegedly said

could also explain all the little flare ups between motlop and minson

Might also explain why Brogan got tangled up with Minson as well at one stage in the game.

Motlop went berzerk in the last quarter. Minson's comments would have made for a great excuse if he had gotten reported.

I'm afraid even Perry Mason wouldn't have been able to get Motlop off if he had gotten reported. The comment/comments weren't directed at him.
