Looks like they have pushed the date out bu a week according to this - the communication we got was vaccination is required by 1/11.

Maggies, Spurs, Raiders?
Imagine thinking the way NSW and Vic have gone about it is good. They've gone through months of continuous lockdown but are arriving at the same finish point as SA.

I know what way I would have preferred.

It's truly a bizarre chode measuring contest between VIC & NSW

I think the 1/11 date was only for SA Health sites.

Natural immunity isn't really a thing and no one's been able to achieve it.

https://directorsblog.nih.gov/2021/...-covid-19-vaccines-differs-from-an-infection/

The vaccine is better than the immunity from having had the virus. If you've had the virus you still might as well get the vaccine.

Ta, was wondering whether a "mild" infection in a double vaxxed person was equivalent or not to a (third shot aka) booster. Clearly not.

Interesting time at work with a strictly 3 day only trip on offer mid November to a rather exotic conference location ex-SYD, so no lockup on the way back.

Tempting!

No State should be bullied into opening borders until their populations are at least 80% fully vaccinated. The experts attribute the slower roll out in States like WA, SA and Queensland to the reluctance of the population to get vaccinated. This may be a factor but it ignores two very salient points-
  • In larger States such as WA it is harder to get vaccine into remote areas and protect the vulnerable. NSW found that out in Wilcannia. The stats show that it is much quicker to get a small State or Territory such as Tasmania or the ACT vaccinated than it is larger States.
  • In the early days of the Delta outbreak in NSW that State was given priority to vaccine and had the incentive to get vaccinated hence it moved to a high vax rate much quicker than the rest of Australia.
There is no point in opening international or state borders until every State and Territory has reached that magic 80% target. Perrotet's edict that NSW would open international borders on November 1st was as stupid as it was ill informed.

The Australian Government has pinned a lot on the Doherty Institute's 80% figure but the latest out of the UK and the US is a bit concerning. The UK Government has drawn up Plan B for implementation if the UK infection and death rates continue to climb. That plan does not involve lockdowns but it does involve face masks and social distancing. The focus in the UK is now on booster shots which is something the Doherty modelling has not touched upon. If the efficacy of some of these vaccines starts to fade after 8 months as is suggested then Morrison should be looking at starting a vaccination booster program early in 2022. it is not simply a case of getting to the 80% mark, opening up then forgetting about the virus.

It is beginning to look like we are going to be living with this thing for some time yet.

Bathurst could still be on the cards at this rate!

its not like a spike today has anythng to do with the death rate, which would be on a 2-6 week lag anyway.

True, there is a catch up factor involved in the death rate. In terms of opening up the critical factor is hospitalisation. The figures from NSW are encouraging as they have not had a huge spike in hospitalisation since their freedom day on October11. In fact they have had a significant fall and hopefully that trend will continue. I guess if there was a spike in infection after the 11th we will find out about over the next week.

Double-vaxxed teams get a 5 minute head start.
Double-vaxxed punters get an extra 2 cartons on their allowance.

You know it makes sense.

Maybe someone can spritz up a “Pfizzer”.

'COVID states' and 'non-COVID' states lol. We live in a fantasy land where we've decided that Australia is now 8 separate countries and that it's possible to dodge a pandemic.

It's a COVID world. Get used to it and stop dragging your dicks on boosting healthcare.

So Western Australia are going to keep their borders shut ad infinitum as they (surprisingly for a supposedly rich state) have the lowest number of ICU beds per capita in the country.
They have no flex capacity for increasing ICU beds when Covid19 hits.
April 2022 is the date that has been mentioned of possible opening of the wa border.
It goes along with the rumor I heard a while back that both perth afl teams will be hubbing possibly in adelaide for at least the first month of the afl season next year.

It’s also a world where we have premiers wanting to get re elected. Get used to it.

The founders envisaged politicians wanting unfettered power and that's why they created a constitution and the High Court.

Unfortunately, they didn't envisage how corrupt society would be by 2021 and that the High Court judges would be golf buddies with the politicians.

As if it’s a 2021 thing.
