This is kind of true, but only to a degree. The analogy is used constantly, but if we're talking about safety, wouldn't speed limits be reduced massively, junk food, alcohol, cigarettes all be banned.
What have they done in the past year to keep the population safe? Have they made more hospitals, trained more nurses? Made any kind of sensible, proportional decision to a virus which is all but harmless to the vast majority of the population?
And on safety, you and I might have different standards. In my opinion, thrusting the biggest social experiment the world has ever seen on an unsuspecting population, without any serious regard or thought for the short and long term impacts in a variety of areas, could be seen as at best unsafe and reckless by the government.
