Something strange is going on here. The Dr is not a Dr, or was not trained in diluting the vaccine?

This seems to be the story, although this was updated from the original headline that says the Dr gave 4 times the recommended dose. They injected two elderly people consecutively and then the nurse stopped him. They must have been showing some pretty bad symptoms but the Dr didn't seem to notice, or maybe the nurse realised he's used all of the vial in only 2 injections?

A doctor who incorrectly gave two elderly people in a Queensland aged care home a "higher than the recommended dose" of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine, did not complete the required vaccination training, Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says.

The problem is, the vials hold 5 or 6 doses in each, so if the first 2 somehow got 4 times the dose from the same vial, that means the Dr used 8 doses. That's impossible.

SO either this was two very bad reactions to normal doses, or somehow the vials were not diluted correctly according to instructs before use? Either way a major **** up

I had a look at the US FACT SHEET FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS ADMINISTERING PFIZER VACCINE and it doesn't look complicated, but the vials do need to be diluted before use. Did Australia have the same instructions? Is this done on site or before the vials are sent out to sites and is this where the mistake was made?


Vials must be kept frozen between -80ºC to -60ºC (-112ºF to -76ºF) and protected from light until ready to use.

Thawed Vials Before Dilution
Thawed Under Refrigeration: Thaw and then store undiluted vials in the refrigerator [2ºC to 8ºC (35ºF to 46ºF)] for up to 5 days (120 hours).

For immediate use, thaw undiluted vials at room temperature [up to 25ºC (77ºF)] for 30 minutes. Vials must reach room temperature before dilution. Undiluted vials may be stored at room temperature for no more than 2 hours.

Prior to Dilution • The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine Multiple Dose Vial contains a volume of 0.45 mL, supplied as a frozen suspension that does not contain preservative. Each vial must be thawed and diluted prior to administration.

Dilution
Dilute the vial contents using 1.8 mL of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP (not provided) to form the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. ONLY use 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP as the diluent. This diluent is not packaged with the vaccine and must be sourced separately.

Do not use bacteriostatic 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection or any other diluent. Do not add more than 1.8 mL of diluent. After dilution, one vial contains 6 doses of 0.3 mL.

Vial labels and cartons may state that after dilution, a vial contains 5 doses of 0.3 mL. The information in this Fact Sheet regarding the number of doses per vial after dilution supersedes the number of doses stated on vial labels and cartons.

Greg Hunt is referring to a preprint of data from an observational study in Scotland, looking at the effect of the first dose of both Pfizer and Oxford AZ injections against hospital admissions.

They quote Israeli data with one preprint that reported a 51% relative risk reduction against SARS-CoV-2 infection 13-24 days after the first dose of the BNT162b2 mRNA (PfizerBioNTech) vaccine. This study used data from a state-mandated health provider in Israel covering 503,875 individuals.

They also found a correspondence article that reported adjusted rate reductions for SARS-CoV-2 infections of 30% and 75%, respectively for the periods 1–14 and 15–28 days after the first dose of the BNT162b2 vaccine in a cohort of 9,109 healthcare workers in Israel’s largest hospital.

Not sure why the Scottish study found very different results with one dose than the more advance Israeli information but the study design is open to bias. Both Israel and Scottish information shows the injection is not stopping people get COVID and is based on being admitted to hospital which is almost non existent in Australia. They didn't report on the rate of secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection within households, side effects or deaths.

They don't know how long a VE will last, or address the Israeli information that strongly advises the second injection be given at the recommended 3 weeks, and not longer.

They found that a single dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was associated with a vaccine effect (VE) of 85% (95% CI 76 to 91) for COVID-19 hospitalisation 28-34 days post-vaccination. A single dose of Oxford AZ vaccine was associated with a vaccine effect 94% (95% CI 73 to 99) at 28- 34 days post-vaccination.

We assessed VE against hospital admissions with COVID-19 as the main cause of admission, or hospital admission within 28 days of a positive RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 infection from 8 December 2020 to 13 February 2021.

The authors warn their study also had several limitations. First, we estimated vaccine effects against COVID-19 related hospital admission. However, there are other outcomes of interest, including GP and accident & emergency (A&E) department consultations, ICU admission, death, rate of secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection within households as well as maternal and neonatal outcomes. We did not estimate VE against these outcomes.

In high-risk subgroups such as those in care homes where more data will be needed to produce reliable VE estimates. Similarly, further monitoring to assess the effect of receiving two doses, rather than just one, is needed.

The authors, in the press release “caution that the data does not allow for comparisons between the two [vaccines]” used in the study.

Other comments; However non-randomised (observational) studies of the effects of vaccines are subject, even in the best-designed and analysed studies, to potential biases making the results less certain than the statistical analysis suggests.

The relevant hospitalisation events that had occurred were not very numerous while the follow up period was still short, especially for the Astra-Zeneca vaccine which was deployed later. For these reasons and because it is the first UK post-implementation study to report initial results publicly, the paper should be interpreted cautiously.

Sorry Hawky, but California and NY had serious lockdowns, no schools, no dining (none still indoors in NY), masks mandate and Florida opened up last May with no masks and doing better.

NY accounted for huge numbers of deaths by Governor Cuomo's policy of making nursing homes accept COVID positive patients from hospital, even though Trump put a huge navy hospital ship off Manhattan and set up Central Park with army tents, which Cuomo refused to use.

For this Cuomo had press and other Democrats saying he's done a great job with COVID and even talk of him running for President.

At some stage you've got to say WTF is actually going on here, don't you?

All they have to do to show if flu is there, is test the positive PCR tests for flu, which is what is recommended with high cycle repetitions. Every pathologist in the US that 's done that has found flu in 100% of the samples they've tested.

We are still in a state of emergency. Kids wear masks at school. People still can’t go into the office. Masks are still required indoors. There are still restrictions on outdoor sports, even for kids. Restrictions on indoor numbers.... etc etc - what, why?

They assume a health crisis every 5 years. If that's accurate, how can anyone still think that locking down and waiting for scientists to develop a cure is the best strategy? We'd be forever in lockdown.

That’s clearly the plan.

We are only just getting the the ‘cure’ rolled out now for Covid 19 but already the goalposts are shifting for threat of Covid 21, variants, mutating strains blah blah blah...and so we will need more cures.

Never live again, do what govt says, make big pharma even bigger and forfeit all your rights - only then can you be safe and healthy.

Nature is dangerous.

Sorry to barge in on you guys but I have been labouring this point(amongst other points) in the other two threads for months on end now. I don't think anyone could rationally deny that lockdowns have to have at least some impact on the spread(zero consideration about the other consequences though...something, something nuclear bomb to destroy an ant hill) but it's the continual assertion by a select group of particularly 'special' posters(we all know who they are) saying that the only reason AU has done so well is 100% because of strict lockdowns and that we are the gold standard for the rest of the world as to how to deal with the pandemic.

When asked for proof they'll say something like "this is a remarkably stupid request"..... not realizing that they've had an own goal and made my point for me - if you are going to speak in absolutes you need to provide 100% verifiable evidence for your claim. Of course they can not do so, yet continue pushing the same narrative.

Remarkably stupid, indeed.

(I'm legit not 100% that a lot of these *posters aren't bots because the levels of denseness wowwee//only half joking).

*in my mind, I call them Lighthouses...they continually swoop in and take it upon themselves to 'shine light' on the errors of our ways the moment someone posts something contrary or ask questions....yeah, thanks Lighthouse and kindly gfy.
