Coles warns of meat shortage across Australian stores after latest COVID-19 abattoir outbreak
By Tom Cowie
A meat supplier to supermarket giant Coles has been forced to close amid the latest COVID-19 outbreak connected with Victorian abattoirs.

Abattoirs have been a source of coronavirus outbreaks across the world, with authorities attributing the problem to the high number of people working in close proximity to one another.

Am surprised they had not already mandated surgical masks for both aged care and home care staff wear surgical masks yet in all lock down zones.

Clearly another case of Australia's PPE health, and national security PPE stockpile pandemic unpreparedness,
and the mask recommendations and mandates ramping up as they grow the stockpile and do what they can to secure ongoing future PPE stock and more high volume local manufacturing of PPE.

Aged care staff in lockdown zones will have to wear masks
Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced that aged care staff who work in residential facilities or provide home care support across Victoria’s lock down zones will be required to wear surgical masks.
It follows recommendations from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).
An extra four million masks will be made available to aged care and home care providers in the areas with restrictions including Greater Melbourne and Mitchell Shires.
This will help around 449 residential aged care facilities and 425 home care providers.
Since late March, more than 295 million masks, more than four million gowns, more than 41 million gloves, and more than five million goggles and face shields have been received into the National Medical Stockpile (NMS).
Substantial amounts of PPE, including additional masks, will continue to arrive over the coming weeks and months.

Melbourne GP Joe Garra said that when he visited two nursing homes in Werribee late last week, the only other person wearing a mask was another doctor. That is despite the suburb already being home to one aged-care outbreak, which claimed the life of 90-year-old Alf Jordan on Friday.
Dr Garra said that when he asked a nurse why no one was wearing a mask, he was told they didn’t have any coronavirus cases at the nursing home “so there's no need to”.
“It puzzles me why they aren’t being proactive in wearing a face shield or mask,” he said.
“It makes no sense to me.”

Cost saving measures?
Poor risk management?
When you don't mandate PPE, it's hardly surprising when PPE is not used.

Dr Patel said when the service started communicating to nursing homes a month-and-a-half ago that doctors would be arriving in protective equipment they received feedback that providers didn’t want it or it was “a bad look", while others had laughed at the measures.
Same sort of excuses/defiance the current POTUS used recently.

To think it took three weeks for us to go from Sydney's numbers today to city-wide lockdown.

And we never re-opened pubs with more than 20 patrons, nor stadiums, nor the casino... They could get to our situation even quicker.

It's unforgiveable if we're indeed still suffering from shortages of PPE, after buying ourselves months of time to prepare.

NSW debates tough rules for rogue pubs
Pubs and hotels that breach COVID safety protocols will face heavy penalties and group bookings will be reduced from 20 people down to 10 people under a tightening of restrictions being considered by the Berejiklian government this evening. Cabinet ministers are currently in a closed-door meeting discussing the introduction of harsh penalties for businesses that do not abide strictly enough with COVID-19 safety and hygiene regulations.
Cabinet is considering the introduction of COVID safe squads to enforce social distancing in some instances. Heavy penalties for non-compliance is also being discussed, an official said, along with other measures. These include ....measures that will require all patrons to record their details on entry to a venue, rather than just one person on behalf of their party.
A decision is expected by 7pm.

It's just gone 7pm.

Coronavirus: Krispy Kreme free doughnut giveaway slammed by NSW Police
NSW Police bosses have slammed Krispy Kreme after the company decided to give away 350,000 doughnuts as Australia teeters on the brink of a second wave of COVID-19. Police were called to a number of Sydney stores, including one where the riot squad attended to disperse people.

Maybe Krispy Kreme management were banking on the additional free publicity this would give them outweighing any fines or adverse publicity from this stunt.

I hear that there is a surplus of Victorian ex-hotel quarantine security staff going cheap.

How to stop them flirting, drinking and gambling with the patrons and punters could be a bit of an issue.
And how to smuggle them over the border or get them special exemptions as essential services workers.

Maybe the coppers wanted to have them with their coffee. It is part of a balanced diet.

Just announced + limit of 300 patrons. Only applies to pubs though, the casinos get a pass, because Gladys.

You would think they would have at least put some thought into things like this, but alas...

COVID-19 has forced businesses to establish a Covid safe environment for their staff and patrons.
This has meant, recording attendance details should an outbreak occur and contact tracing is required.
The use of paper attendance sheet and pen when signing in, is not ideal - especially given these are high contact points.
❌ Same pen used by all patrons
❌ At times scribble is illegible
❌ If NSW Health is required to contact trace, getting attendance sheet via post, fax or PDF is far from ideal
❌ Privacy; the details of those entering prior to you are listed on the sheet
❌ You can’t wipe down - sanitise - the paper sheet - (paper and water are not great friends)
Downloading multiple apps for multiple venues is not ideal either ... There has to be a better way. Watch this space.
Over this period, more opportunities for digital continue to arise and this is one of those instances.

Was surprised that a mandated Australian or State digital venue attendance solution was not implemented months ago.

Probably of way more value than the current state and use-fullness of the COVIDSafe App.
