U.S. health officials believe that Pfizer Inc’s Covid-19 vaccine could be authorised for children aged 5-11 years old by the end of October, two sources told Reuters.

The timeline is based on the expectation that Pfizer, which developed the shot with Germany’s BioNTech, will have enough data from clinical trials to seek emergency use authorization (EUA) for that age group from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) towards the end of this month, the sources said.

They anticipate the FDA could make a decision on whether the shot is safe and effective in younger children within three weeks of the EUA submission.

Caring for Covid patients at home is a model to keep people out of an already stretched hospital system, but questions are now being asked after 13 patients have died at home.

Doctors have raised concerns about the “hospital in the home” Covid treatment system after 13 people died at home since August 1, including two more announced on Friday.
One in 12 of the 162 Covid-related deaths have now occurred at home, with six in the past week.

A specialist who works in the public system, who spoke on the agreement of anonymity, said patients can deteriorate rapidly with Covid and the “hospital in the home” system, which relies on doctors phoning the patient each day, could not cater for that.

Yeah Sutton saying in mid August that we wouldn't get to 300 daily cases again was up there with Andrews saying we'd get back to zero for bad calls.

How given we locked down so early is there such a big divide in mystery cases?

If you look at Melbourne most of it is mostly covid free. The vast majority of the growth has been confined to the northern and/or western suburbs. Any of the few cases that pop up elsewhere do not result in rapid increases in cases due to seemingly strict compliance with rules.

We're at the point now where its only really the western and north western lgas need to remain in lockdown. Everywhere else should be on the same restrictions as regional victoria.

Don't expect Dan to do that though because that would be seen as penalising his political support in those areas.

I understand your logic but the practicality of separating the North/West and South/East of Melbourne would just be too hard

Nah it really isn't. You have geelong a major population centre separated with Wyndham by the regional divide. There's no reason to keep the areas that continue to have no or very little spread of covid in lockdown now, they definitely should be on the same restrictions as regional (still no home visits, limits on capacity at venues etc).

I bet that if there was a major covid outbreak in say Mornington Peninsula and the western suburbs were pretty much covid free they absolutely would not be kept in lockdown.

My oath they would
Mornington Peninsula has been considered metro since day one.

Herd immunity is impossible

for the ones who cant get past the paywall

Basically says if you cant stop transmission with vax you can never reach herd immunity
Masks for a very very long time
Northern hemisphere will probably need to lock down every winter if it surges and he thinks it will
Dont lock up asymptomatic you need to learn to live with it.
Thinks the 3rd jabs should go to places that have no jabs first.

They ****ed up when they claimed to be at zero cases when the reality was it was spreading rapidly. They missed the early link and have tried playing catch up ever since. But Melbournian's have clearly learnt from past lockdowns, the best way to get out of them is avoid being tested. In the past fortnight cases have increased, exposure sites are everywhere yet testing numbers are dropping. Just get vaxxed and everybody can start treating this like Malaria and other diseases that are out there killing half a million people a year yet don't get reported by news services so nobody gives a s**t.

We clearly opened back up for a week or was it 2 where they thought they had it under control. Then cases started popping up again and it was clear within a week the original outbreak had already spread to other areas undetected.

The world's first phase-III clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccines available for children aged as young as 6 months have been launched in South Africa, Chinese biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac together and partner South Africa-based Numolux Group announced on Friday.

The phase-III clinical trials aim to evaluate the safety, immunogenicity and the efficacy of Sinovac vaccines on COVID-19 infections and severe cases involving underage children between 6 months and 17 years old

We'll make those NSW numbers look pathetic come the next few weeks. I'm not following s**t any more and I don't know many others that will be either. Friend who lives in Richmond said there are house parties happening in every single apartment block, every night.

I'm going to a friends house to watch the footy tonight.

Too bad, so sad.
