Tasmania has announced it will reopen its borders to the rest of Australia from 15 December. Fully vaccinated arrivals from the mainland will be required to return a negative Covid test within 72 hours of travelling to the state. Tasmania will also scrap quarantine for international arrivals once it reaches 90% vaccination coverage – which it expect to achieve by 15 December.

One of our local pokie places is 9am-5am
They have to shut for 4 hours I think to make sure people actually go home :)
I have noticed some near each other have staggered the times to give a 2 hour window where one is open and the other closed. Excelsior Hotel in Thomastown us to have free bacon & eggs when they closed but they now can't be open at all even with a closed bar and pokie venue.

Hours after the AFL mandated its players to be vaccinated by mid-February, Abdo took a slightly different approach.

The NRL has been grappling with mandatory vaccinations since the resumption of the 2020 season when several high-profile players including Bryce Cartwright, Josh Papalii and Joseph Tapine expressed reluctance to receive the flu shot.

Soft
Tail wagging the dog
Will probably force Melbourne Storm to play home games outside Victoria.

No, the states were all supposed to go together at 70 and then 80 per cent. NSW got all the vax, got there early, then decided they didn't want to wait.
And then neither did Vic
It's also complete s**t, we aren't at 70% double dose, won't be for two weeks until the impact of the jab kicks in

The government plans to enforce a health measure to fight a virus that over 20 months has killed 1500 Australians (probably a lot less). But Won’t ban smoking - kills 24,000 a year Won’t ban junk food - obesity kills 50,000 a year It just doesn’t make sense

Time to give it up and accept that other people DO understand something you can't grasp.

AMA Victorian branch President Roderick McRae

But Dr McRae maintained that individuals had a responsibility not to overwhelm Victoria’s hospitals as restrictions eased.

“We strongly advise people not to undertake any activity that may lead to inebriation and the requirements for medical care,” he said.

“Now is not the time you want to fall over or get injured, because the hospitals are full. Don’t get too excited about the horse winning the Melbourne Cup if you’re on the brink of having a cardiac issue.

“If you call an ambulance in coming weeks, you may have to wait. There’s no question the hospital will do what they can, but we’re not able to provide the standard of care that we once did because of all of the resource constraints.”

Gold standard hospitals under the ALP.

That would never have been Scomos plan when he was handing out the extra vax
Wasn't NSW the highest need at the time? They had massive spread and it seems to have curtailed that suitably.

Victoria should be getting the bulk of it now. They can't give them away at the moment in WA and QLD

Are you suggesting more tax payers money needs to be spent on socialist public hospitals to cope with a 1 in 100 year pandemic?

I think there needed to be some effort made in the first 18 months. Now it looks like there might need to be a one off injection of cash to allow the states to handle the fruit of their management.

I've mentioned before but I think the federal government should throw a huge wad of cash at the states to fix it, like $10B matching the money they put into it dollar for dollar.

I'm suggesting dopey Dan and Maogowan have had 2 years to get the hospitals ready and have done fu** all.
If you were trying to pick the political move then you could argue that the vaccine thresholds were in place to wedge the states into either opening up or admitting the reason they can't is that their health systems can't handle it - and that would be all their fault.

So they open up.

The old more people have died from shark attacks than covid in Australia. Remember that one.

Which would be ignoring that federal funding of health has been steadily declining

If states had been fighting this over the last 10 years the feds wouldn't be able to pull this s**t
