Fair enough. Maybe merging this and the next draft may be the best option. Bummer that the cats have like 10 to delist and no draftees this year if that's the case. If club lists get trimmed to 30 players the cats might even delist more and throw some lifelines around.
I don’t believe lists will be cut back to 30 players.

38 seems a reasonable number.

We have one poster on our board with some connection to the AFL, and he mentioned that the AFL were looking at lists being trimmed back to 35 players, before anything was being mentioned in the papers by AFL writers.

Most clubs would struggle to trim lists back to 36 players, if there’s a proviso that clubs have to draft a minimum of 2 players at the draft.

Almost every club is going to have out of contract players they’d prefer to keep, and contracted players they would prefer to delist under such a scenario.

You're killing my dreams there. Cats could delist near 10 before feeling conflicted.

Good for the clubs with academy players as the Swans were always going to pick Campbell and Gulden. We also know a lot about both players.

Quite a Few Teams are in that Situation.

Like Collingwood and Reef McGinnis as he even did some of his Pre-Season at the Club

Listening to Jimmy Bartel today, looks like 35 player senior list.

Also sounded like the Giants are trying to negotiate some form of rookie list to be kept beyond the 35 player senior list.

Man, the massive silver lining was going to be poaching GWS depth players. Now it's just pure downside.

Yeah I can see clubs (such as the Giants and Jackson Hately) only trading players for future first round picks, or top 10 picks this year.

Yeah I was thinking with a crunch on lists they could be forced to delist, then they're DFA I'm guessing. But if they're only delisting a couple each then there won't be any free Hatelys or similar.

There's still going to be a crunch on lists.

I was more meaning that the deeper the crunch the more it affects clubs with greater depth, then after a certain point sides that are quite thin on depth would be best off going further and poaching the delisted players from other clubs. Imagine whether say the 31st best GWS player (last delisted) would be better than the 30th best on your list (last retained). If you're only delisting 5 then it's probably a wash.

Just a little shameless opportunism.

Would Geelong be interested in one Rhys Mathieson?

What is all this draft lottery garbage I keep hearing?
Originally the lottery was proposed as a way of reducing the incentive to tank late in a season. Now there doesn't seem to be any rational justification. Maybe just so the afl has something else to pump or to help kids better understand odds.
