World's best nurses and dr's. Val if you ask me 👍🇦🇺

We don’t want for anything. Great health care, Produce enough agriculturally to feed everyone comfortably, rich in natural resources, even though we offloaded most large scale production, we’re more then capable of producing here again. Australia could easily be self sufficient.

Eight new cases in Victoria today

The Victorian Deputy Chief Officer Annaleise Van Diemen is speaking now. Here's some latest numbers:

  • There have been eight new cases since yesterday, but one previous case has been reclassified and removed from the state’s overall tally, so there is a net increase of seven cases
  • Two cases are among healthcare workers who work at the Kyabram district health service, but they did not attend work during the infectious period
  • One case is a construction worker tested as part of the testing blitz
  • A further four cases are remaining under investigation, both in terms of potential exposures and where they may have acquired the illness
  • Two further cases from cases reported earlier this week have been linked to the Cedar Meats outbreak after undergoing further investigation
  • Ten people remain in hospital in Victoria, with five of those in intensive care
  • There have been no further positive cases at any Victorian aged care homes, including the three facilities with positive cases earlier in the week. One of these facilities — Villa Maria in Bundoora —has completed the testing of staff and residents and there have been no further positive results.
Dr Van Diemen confirmed there is a link between the Cedar Meats and Myer Highpoint outbreaks in Victoria, but didn't say what that link was.

However she said at this time there was no evidence of a link between the Cedar Meats and McDonalds outbreaks.

Private pathology companies threatened to refuse COVID-19 testing at the height of the pandemic, forcing the federal government to increase by four-fold its payment for each test.

The hard-nosed negotiations, which resulted in an increase of the COVID-19 test subsidy from $24.40 to $100, has produced what one company chief executive described as a "COVID-led recovery" for pathologists confronting an exodus of patients from other services.
