24/26 in quarantine since becoming infectious aye, I do find that dubious going on how ' easily spread ' the Delta variant is. Remember the Gov official line is that a fan caught it while making his way into the Wallabies match. so 24 people it would seem have had no contact with another person during the infectious period= bullshit.

Then adding in all of the exposure sights I would have expected the numbers to be far greater.
It doesn't add up at all. stats don't lie government's do though. I am not saying covid isn't real, of course it is. Just why not be honest with us?

Also how many of these current community members are sick? How many in hospital? Are the 26 still sick or have the recovered? Kind of important information.
actually very important information. out of lockdown on a normal day i would interact with about 30 people, then add in all of those they interact with and extrapolate the s**t out of that.

We should be seeing numbers skyrocket in Vic and NSW at least.
Just my take is all. Hope you're all well and staying sane.

Forced vaccination policies like this are not the way to go about making sure that people are getting them.

Instead of banging on about why it's important to get it, we all know it is. Social coercion followed by demagoguery is just being knee-jerk as to why the efforts to get people vaccinated are not as successful as they should be.

If you push people enough like this regardless of the facts they just won't do it and if you back them into a corner like the UK is doing, it's also not going to succeed and just proves their suspicions.

What's required first and foremost is the supplies of them first off, and ease of access to get them, and more positive messaging backed by data that's proving the vaccine is safe, free of side effects and has a high rate of preventing re-infection.
When France announced you had to get tested and have an up to date negative result to be allowed into pubs/clubs etc, if you weren't vaccinated.

And you paid for the testing.

The booking service for vaccination crashed under the wait of bookings.

This is my preferred option.

You don't have to vaccinate. You just need to show a negative in the last week. This costs $150 a pop. So for the princely price of $600 a month, you can live vaccine free.

If you never go anywhere or do anything, you don't even need to test.

If your sick and the test is requested by your Doc, the test is still free, as it falls under medicare.

The rest, medicare doesn't cover testing for non medical reasons, it's why testing for insurance etc isn't covered, so why would testing so you can go to a bar be covered?

You know, some people do take this seriously enough to do as instructed.

Yes mate I know that, so why not offer those vaccinated a way out of this? sh*t then I might even consider it. Just sayin.
I reckon once vaccinations have dramatically increased across the nation, then that is exactly what will happen.

(And by vaccinated, I mean fully vaccinated with your two shots.)

Until that has happened the lockdowns will continue, as they don't really have a choice if their goal is to keep the entirety of the population safe. It's s**t, but really the only viable approach at the moment.

As simply put to me by an infectious diseases specialist just two weeks ago the only way to control an outbreak of the delta variant is

a) get everyone vaccinated

or

b) stop people moving

No one wants b but right now its the only thing that is working because option a is not available because our federal govt are a bunch of ******* morons.

44-year-old Tasmanian man dies following first AZ dose, TGA says.
The TGA has put out its weekly report.
In this, they have noted two people have died after receiving the first dose of the AZ vaccine:
Sadly two people with confirmed TTS following the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine died in the last week. One was a 44-year-old man from Tasmania and the other was a 48-year-old woman from Victoria. We extend our sincere condolences to their families and loved ones.
This Tasmanian death was also just confirmed at the Tasmanian Covid-19 update.

Yeah not good...

The issue is apparently 2 x shots isn't necessarily protecting those vulnerable, yes early days but the stats are well the stats. A horrid position to be in as I don't believe the answer is once we've all been jabbed, we'll be ok.

Queensland research may hold the key. fingers crossed. Also yes a fair few around the world have died once they've received their shots.

This isn't pretty whichever side of the fence you sit on.

The vaccines in their current form are not a cure all, but they were never going to be and it isn't any sort of argument to use that fact as a logical basis for not getting vaccinated. What they will do, as I pointed out earlier, is reduce the severity of illness. Less severity = less long term impact on both the individual and the wider community.

What not getting vaccinated will certainly lead to is a continuation of the current approach. 100% guaranteed, lock it in Ed.

It's really that simple. If you want hard lockdown to end, then get the jab.

Curious to know where you got that info? From what I've read so far the Pfizer vaccine reduced hospitalizations by like 90+ per cent for the delta variant.

Here's one article, and fyi it is not from an alarmist pov

"More vaccinated people are dying of COVID than unvaccinated people, according to a recent report from Public Health England (PHE). The report shows that 163 of the 257 people (63.4%) who died of the delta variant within 28 days of a positive COVID test between February 1 and June 21, had received at least one dose of the vaccine. At first glance, this may seem alarming, but it is exactly as would be expected".

Will be interesting to watch over the next 6 or so months. my advice is to keep as fit as possible.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has apologised to Australians for the slow pace of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout. Follow our live coverage.

“ l take responsibility for the vaccination program,” Mr Morrison said today. “I’m sorry that we haven’t been able to achieve the marks that we had hoped for at the beginning of this year. Of course I am. But what’s more important is that we’re totally focused on ensuring that we’ve been turning this around "

I am not sure what stats you are looking at but the evidence from the USA, where a much larger proportion of the population is vaccinated, is stark and demonstrates that while not perfect vaccines are working very well at preventing death from covid:

The Associated Press, using figures provided by the CDC, found that of the more than 18,000 Americans who died of covid in May, only about 150 were fully vaccinated. That’s 0.8 percent. Between Jan. 21 and July 9, 2,471 Virginians died of covid; 18 of them were vaccinated, or 0.7 percent. Between Jan. 1 and June 30, 37,180 Californians died of covid; about 71 — 0.2 percent — were vaccinated.
Maryland reported that of the 130 Marylanders who died of covid in June, none were vaccinated.

The report that you're quoting was dealt with on Media Watch the other night:
