Yeah, I think in 4 weeks there is a pretty high chance restrictions will start to be wound back. How that looks exactly is anyone's guess. Places like gyms, bars, restaurants, cinemas etc, forget it. I'm guessing they'll be last on the list along with international travel & crowds allowed at sporting events, and all of those things may not be possible until a vaccine is available.

Either by good luck or good management it appears we've found ourselves in the position where our (expanded) ICU capabilities won't be found wanting which seems to have caused the high mortality rates we've seen elsewhere. Such a stark contrast to how it has hit here vs overseas. A lot of factors contributing I guess.

That approach stood in stark contrast to Hong Kong: another Asian self-governed city with a similar size population. In Hong Kong, public schools have been closed since February ….. Hong Kong has been much more successful in dealing with a second wave.

This is probably the best comparison I can find but there are so many factors that it's always oranges and apples. But with an average age of 42 among Australian teachers (with 30% aged 50 or above) and little to no PPE or even hand wash I fear this will not end well.



From NSW health



There is a second positive case at TAFE Ultimo that is unrelated to the first case. Contact tracing is underway. Parts of the TAFE remain open.

A student at Bankstown Senior College has tested positive for COVID-19. Investigations are ongoing to trace close contacts.

At the Rose of Sharon childcare centre in Blacktown there are now 7 confirmed cases in staff, 6 confirmed cases in children, and 12 secondary cases (11 household contacts and 1 friend). The centre is closed.

St Mary’s Senior High School has one confirmed case, a student. The school is closed and investigations are ongoing.

Gloucester Primary School has one confirmed case in a staff member. The school remains open as it has been over two weeks since the case’s last attendance. The school has been contacting staff and students regularly about their health with no evidence of people being unwell.

Woodport Early Learning Centre has one confirmed case in a child. Investigations are ongoing.

St Michaels Catholic Primary School Belfield has one confirmed case, a student. The school is closed and investigations are ongoing.

Wiley Park Girls High School has one confirmed case, a teacher. The school reopened today following investigations.

Kambala has one confirmed case, a teacher. The school is closed and Investigations are ongoing.

So lots of schools with only one case would indicate it isn’t spreading and That the schools are handling it quite well

Really depends if the student or
teacher attended school while contagious.

Once you take the test, you are supposed to go straight home and self isolate until you find out the result.

So if students/parents and teachers acted early enough and saw their doctor or virus clinic at the onset of symptoms, or stayed home until their appointment, there might have been limited chance for the virus to spread.

It is the childcare centre that stands out to me. A situation where a young child might not be able to communicate properly that they’re unwell, and the virus spreads, before it’s caught.

True in NSW so far, but as we have seen in northwest Tas clusters can spread at alarming rates; and once again.

If you read the data from that site then 30 - 60 (which is most of the teaching bell curve) represents 43% of all outstanding cases, if you add in school age children its more like 48%. Most will be children of front line medical staff who have the highest risk of contracting CV19, yet use no PPE at home.

"School staff know that they are taking a risk by reporting to work against advice given to the rest of the population to stay at home.

Many will be caring for the children of front line workers, which the latest scientific advice suggests may spread coronavirus.

It is only right that this is a choice informed by hard evidence regarding the degree of risk involved.

We need a step change in the detail of advice given to schools now.

Our focus will be to reiterate the need for schools to be given clear guidance on how to keep pupils and staff safe.

It is absolutely vital that we have sight of the expert medical evidence on safe levels of attendance and density, and are provided with practical advice on the protective steps we should be taking in schools.

From masks or other PPE, to distancing children from each other, to sufficient supplies of soap and hand sanitiser, schools urgently need answers to their questions about effective safety measures."

Singapore's spike in cases have predominantly come from their migrant worker dorms which are closer to prisons than normal accommodation - perfect conditions for viral spread since there's no practical way to isolate people.

It's next to impossible to post a counter-factual for keeping schools open because very few countries have done so.

Should be given double fines for being silly enough to put signs & balloons up outside too lol. At least try to be somewhat clandestine about not giving a flying rats arse about everyone else in the community & the possible outcome of your actions.
