From a Victorian perspective, it seems crazy not to have a harsher lockdown in NSW.
Unless you then open up your economy and reward people, what is the point of eradication?
Interesting idea:
Queensland considers mining camps for quarantining travellers with four new cases recorded
The Queensland Government will consider using mining camps to quarantine international travellers as the state grapples with a cluster of the highly-contagious UK strain of coronavirus.www.abc.net.au
This is exactly the type of thing that was always going to happen, that is, the government losing the goodwill of the people because of the initial laissez-faire attitude of Johnson and his government and whether people like to admit it or not, Governments do influence people because in times like this, people look to their government. Now, when the s**t has really hit the fan, people feel betrayed and don't give a rat's arse any longer about anything that the government says and those that do, either just get run over by the mob or if they happen to be non-main language speakers and are looking to their communities for help and advice, the Government's initial lack of urgency and a plan to help non-main language speakers, has plunged them into despair and depression.Just to add in some place such as UK, the govt has lost the goodwill of the population so badly not many are complying.
We hear more needs to be done communicating the message to non-(countries main language) speakers but with complex 'traffic light s/level1-2-3-4 / bubble' systems which change almost daily what hope is there?
This is the response that the Federal Government should have made right from the start when we are talking about repatriating Australian nationals, ie. housed away from densly populated areas and looked after by dedicated professionals, not some ill trained contracted part timers who leave the "medi hotels" and go to the pub, takeaway, back home, to another job. This is ludicrous and Morrison is getting away with murder!Should've happened ages ago. Pay people high $$$$ to go work out there for a time period e.g. 2-3 months and you can essentially ramp up the number of people coming into the country.
Might even re-start the international tourist market again.

Yes, that will be very interesting but as you said, in the case of the USA, I very much doubt that many, if any attitudes will change. The US will be an interesting test case in this regard - can a change of government change how people act? I kind of doubt it in their case - too partisan and too far gone.

Vic had to lock down hard because not only did they stuff up hotel quarrantine more broadly than the other states, but it was muxh worse because they had under funded tracing as well so lockdown was the only option thanks to Dans multiple failures.in hindsight if you think about it now the Victorian lockdown was insane had no real additional benefits and results could have been achieved without locking people in their houses for 3 months.
