From a Victorian perspective, it seems crazy not to have a harsher lockdown in NSW.

From a selfish point of view, the northern beaches break out is a lesson for the rest of Australia, can it be supressed ?

Elimination is a recipe for isolation & isolation is life style few want.

Unless you then open up your economy and reward people, what is the point of eradication?

Thats what Gladys is trying to do.
Its unbecoming of the other States to criticise NSW for having the guts to keep trying, it worked at Crossroads, the rest of Aus needs you to succeed.

The daily new cases and the daily deaths are surging upwards all over the world. These are the world stats as of midnight GMT:
Screen Shot 2021-01-13 at 11.47.26 pm.png

As is clearly indicated, from the 22nd of January, 2020, up to and including the 12th of January, 2021, the daily cases and the death rate is going up and the measures put in place are not controlling the virus - it is continuing to have a devastating effect on people all over the world.

As sad as this is and I don't want to be the barer of further bad news, the manufacturers of the Pfizer/BioNTech, Oxford/AstraZeneca and the Novavax vaccines, the three major vaccines, have NOT stated in any way that any of these vaccines prevent people from contracting or transmitting Covid-19 and there is no evidence at present from elsewhere that they do, only that they are very confident that these vaccines will help alleviate the symptoms if you contract this coronavirus.

This has not stopped the politicians, the money men and the bean counters from pushing the idea that once you are vacinated, you are safe from the virus and what we are seeing, are people behaving as if we are about to beat this virus.

The propagandists have already started to play for extra time when, in all likelihood, even after the majority of the populations in the wealthier countries have been vaccinated but the spread of the virus and the death rate has not slowed down appreciably, let alone been defeated, these mongrels are now bringing the term "herd immunity" back into the conversation as if it's going to take time for the "herd immunity" to build up, "kick in". This is fanciful and we have the evidence because of the criminal experiment carried out by the bourgeois/green alliance in Sweden. We also have substantial data stating that this type of "herd immunity" codswallop as initially practiced by the Boris Johnson Government in England failed miserably!

The only way to defeat this virus is to do what we did when the Spanish Flu, which originated in Nebraska, USA and was brought to Europe by American soldiers but that's another story, the only way we are going to defeat this coronavirus is do what we did with the Spanish flu, that is, Identify, Seperate and Isolate. Unfortunately, the money markets and the rabid capitalist world we live in and the men and women who protect it as if it we a living breathing thing, would rather see human beings sufferring and dying so long as money keeps on being made.

In Australia, we have come so close to eradicating the virus a few times and it is incredible that the population of this country is not up in arms at the complete and utter ineptitude of the Federal Government in not "sealing the deal", so to speak. How many more times are we going to see the virus "escape' from these bullshit "medi hotels" before it dawns on the population and politicians that these ludicrous, half hearted, backyarder solutions to this problem have not worked and are not working?

The simple answer is staring us all in the face but Politicians don't want to "lose face" or lose their capitalist mates and Australian's are just to laissez-faire to give a s**t.

Stop all international flights except for Australian Nationals and all of these arrivals should be quarantined for a month in dedicated facilities, far away from densely populated areas with a group of dedicated professional who also are confined to the immediate area of the quarantine facility. It would be no more expensive than paying motel chains and privateers to provide the service and even if it was, that is a small price to pay for ERADICATING the virus from this country so we can get back to living a relatively free, stable and sustainable life.

For anyone that still thinks that suppression and "living with" the virus is the way to go, have a look at what we have experienced in Victoria, South Australia, NSW, QLD and the lockdowns and the massive disruption to peoples lives because we try to "live with it" and if you still need further convincing, look at the charts right at the beginning of this post. That is the evidence that the idiotic idea that we can "live with" this coronavirus is completely and utterly false and we have got to this stage because of the protection of the money markets first and foremost by Governments and politicians and the protection of human beings runs a very poor second.

What is really, really scary, is what seems to be the panacea of these just developed vaccines. They are being "marketed" as some type of "magic bullet" and that soon, we will all go back to our pre-covid existence. Nothing but nothing would be better if this were actually so but the most likely outcome of mass vaccination and in Australia, we have nothing to fear about the safety of these vaccines so long as our Therapeutic Goods Administration is allowed to do it's job properly and if they say they are safe, then they are safe for the vast majority of us, the most likely outcome of mass vaccination in Australia will be the 'feel good" factor, that is, if we ERADICATE this virus from our shores. If we don't and we fall into the trap of thinking that the vaccine will protect us, then we are in a hell of a lot of trouble because complacency is the best friend of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) which is the virus responsible for the disease COVID-19.

Just to add in some place such as UK, the govt has lost the goodwill of the population so badly not many are complying.

We hear more needs to be done communicating the message to non-(countries main language) speakers but with complex 'traffic light s/level1-2-3-4 / bubble' systems which change almost daily what hope is there?

Interesting idea:

Should've happened ages ago. Pay people high $$$$ to go work out there for a time period e.g. 2-3 months and you can essentially ramp up the number of people coming into the country.

Might even re-start the international tourist market again.

This is exactly the type of thing that was always going to happen, that is, the government losing the goodwill of the people because of the initial laissez-faire attitude of Johnson and his government and whether people like to admit it or not, Governments do influence people because in times like this, people look to their government. Now, when the s**t has really hit the fan, people feel betrayed and don't give a rat's arse any longer about anything that the government says and those that do, either just get run over by the mob or if they happen to be non-main language speakers and are looking to their communities for help and advice, the Government's initial lack of urgency and a plan to help non-main language speakers, has plunged them into despair and depression.

This is the response that the Federal Government should have made right from the start when we are talking about repatriating Australian nationals, ie. housed away from densly populated areas and looked after by dedicated professionals, not some ill trained contracted part timers who leave the "medi hotels" and go to the pub, takeaway, back home, to another job. This is ludicrous and Morrison is getting away with murder!

As for the international tourist market, we can completely forget about that until the worlds leaders wake up to the fact that their is NO magic bullet and the only way to stop the ever expanding infection rate is to forget about the impact on the money markets and the rabid pursuit of making money and get rid of the virus! The only sure fire way is to identify, seperate and isolate those with the virus. If there was a concerted effort by countries, we would have this thing licked by the middle of this year. The only way to do this is for Governments to sincerely want to attack the pandemic with discipline regardless of what the business councils say, what Wall Street etc say and go hard at it.

Unfortunately, I can't see this happening elsewhere but already, the real leaders in the fight against this pandemic in Australia, the State Premiers, are starting to move in the right direction by talking about moving the overseas arrivals out of their cities and into sparsely populated areas where as Morrison, he's too busy looking after those "having a go" at making money in whichever way they can and thinking up new jingos. If we do manage to eradicate this virus from our shores, then we MUST keep it out and that means no International Tourism, we don't need it anyway. It's the international airlines that need and want international flights to resume but bugger them - Australians holidaying in Australia not overseas means more money for local tourism than what International tourists spend in Australia in "normal" times and that is according to the Bureau of Statistics.

The US will be an interesting test case in this regard - can a change of government change how people act? I kind of doubt it in their case - too partisan and too far gone.

Yes, that will be very interesting but as you said, in the case of the USA, I very much doubt that many, if any attitudes will change.

in hindsight if you think about it now the Victorian lockdown was insane had no real additional benefits and results could have been achieved without locking people in their houses for 3 months.
Vic had to lock down hard because not only did they stuff up hotel quarrantine more broadly than the other states, but it was muxh worse because they had under funded tracing as well so lockdown was the only option thanks to Dans multiple failures.
