And again the toys thrown out of the cot.

"Oh you don't agree with me therefore your saying it's not happening."

Eventually you will realise there are people who can acknowledge and accept how bad this pandemic is without the need to exaggerate like yourself.
I appreciate that you are trying to calm people down, but a tactic other than insulting them might work better

That ar$ehole Dutton and border force have royally screwed us, I can't believe they're all but escaping scrutiny. Morrison hasn't been much better- it's embarrassing that the states are more or less having to dictate national policy right now (but I'm bloody glad they are!) This time next week will be brutal, everyone seems to know at least one person with covid...
hatred only reflects on you as does ignorance

Yep. Early thirties, non-smoking and fit(ish).
For me it was worse than a cold, not as bad as the flu. It was only actually scary for about ten minutes when the old lungs seized up a bit for a couple of breaths. Light chest pains while breathing for 3-4 days, bit of coughing etc, then I slept for around 2 days solid.
Can't complain, had it much easier than my mate who caught it with me. He was knocked out for a couple of weeks. His missus had zero symptoms, even though she is the one with preexisting conditions. His parents had it easier than him.
Just finished my quarantine!

Can confirm, it's real. Please take it seriously. Don't spread it. Not everyone has my adonis-like one-pack and herculean immune system.
Life will go on, we are getting through it and we literally have no option but to work together :)
Couple questions:

Was your case linked to overseas travel?

Did your mate’s missus actually test positive and not show symptoms?

There is no meaningful way of calculating the doubling rate at this point, despite some peoples obsession with it. Some of the positives got it on ships, and came straight off the ship into quarantine. So those positives did not get it in the country, and at no point had a chance to infect others.

The issue is, how fast does it spread in the community from person to person? But we dont know how many in the community have it and are passing it on, or have caught it.

We just know how many have tested positive, and how many new positives there are.

But testing is more restricted now, they are just testing the sick who meet criteria, they were testing a little more indiscriminately in the beginning.

The irony is, the tested positives mostly are not the ones spreading the disease, they go into lockdown. So calculating doubling rates from the number of positives is rather pointless.

We just know its fast.

This may sound too simple but really the virus is only fast as us.

All governments had become complacent. All you heard about the last 10 -15 years is climate change. No government had adequate response for a pandemic.

Yes China lied (and still are) but you needed to suspect early on that this could've been the case. We should be monitoring those wet markets continuously whatever the cost. And not just wet markets but other places around the globe where we can find contagens. You stop the source or are on top of it from the start - and that's 90% of the game won.

Even if that fails you need to mobilise and act quickly, be prepared. The quicker you can act the easier it is to contain. Every day can be critical.

I've been very vocal in doing much more earlier on but even I know this not a VERY BAD one. It's bad but it could be a lot worse.

Covid-19 is deadly, far more deadly than seasonal flu and even far more contagious. But there could be one in the future (could even be tomorrow) a super virus far more deadly and more contagious. If you think this is scary then your not using your imagination.

I feel like the only silver lining if we are to suffer an massive worldwide catastrophe is that after this life will go on and at some point return to normal. But the lesson learnt will prepare us for the BIG one.

Were you confirmed with it? What symptoms did you have exactly?

Expect Western Australias numbers to get hammered in the next few days by German Cruise ship passengers who have no right to be here. After initially saying they have seven cases it turns out it is 70+ .
Our numbers here have been bumped by 75 cases from cruise ships in recent days. They should all be isolated at the bottom of a very deep quarry for 4 weeks imo.

Aren't they being sent straight to airport to fly to Germany?

If they are being quarantined on a cruise ship that just arrived then they are hardly relevant to WA stats.

Yeah Italians never have weekly extended family lunches etc. They rarely see their Nonna and Nonno, probably why all Italian weddings are so small.

Nobody was talking about birth rates when saying Italians have large family’s.

What you are saying then is that Italians may not have large families but they spend more time together than Australian families.

So Australians don't ever see their grandparents or parents - you are just making stuff up. Australians do include Australians from different backgrounds - European, English, Middle Eastern, Indian, Vietnamese, Phillipinos, Chinese, Sudanese, Somali - do they not have a heavy focus on families? Many indigenous Australians have large extended families.

What about your average Australian family without recent immigrant backgrounds -are you saying they don't see their grand parents?
Weddings in Italy have changed a lot in the past 50 years.

There are questions to be answered about why the death toll is so high in Italy - but we won't find the answers in outdated stereotypes.

All 9 Germans from the German cruise ship who just decided to lobb here that tested positive today have been added to our stats. All those that test positive in the next few days will be added to our stats. The positive cases are going to two hospitals and are being treated here.
The deal with the federal government was for WA to take in the 9 confirmed cases and the federal government will organise to get rid of the rest of them.Except now the cruise ship suddenly has ten times that many cases.

1. Yes I got it in Berlin, possibly from a lady from Michigan who travelled with flu-like symptoms with a tour group. Im still in Germany so don't worry about me spreading it in Aus.
2. Given that she travels and lives with her spouse it was assumed she will have gotten it from him. I dont know (back in the states) that they bothered using an extra test kit on her given they were short, she was healthy and her husband needed one anyway. So sorry i cant answer your question exactly. She was quarantined (with her hubby) regardless. I can ask her if you like

EDIT. asked her. She wasn't tested. Apparently US policy is no symptoms no test, to save tests. She is a nurse and has been ordered back to work tomorrow and is mortified that she is going to infect people. Hopefully they are right about the 14 days thing..
I'll hopefully get one of those antibodies tests before i start my new german temp factory gig (assembling ICU monitors to be sent to italy, spain and the US). Going to be busy again from now on (thank god) but ill log back in if anything interesting turns up

The worst case scenario is that we double every four days. We have been hitting that reliably, with no moderation in sight.

You should look at the chart I posted earlier. In the same period we had a growth of over 13000% other countries have grown a few hundred percent and they are deeply concerned by their growth. What secrets can we share with them to show that a 13000% growth is better?

nope.

double every day is the exponential growth

These are the numbers as of today.Overseas travelers ( purple)and the People they live with (teal)are the main source of infections. The grey and pale blue ones are the issue. They are known community spread or not yet traced cases .Providing known infected people stay isolated there is plenty of hope of things stabilizing in a few states imo.

Settle down, your hospitals are not stressed yet , and you have the chance to save some lives.
If the people on the ship are properly quarantined, its all good.
You don't get a prize for having better numbers.

Should we send all to your place then ?
People here are doing good work ,doing there best.We are on the edge as to if we can contain this thing .These Germans are taking up time and using resourses when we need them .We are losing jobs by the tens of thousands. Having higher numbers is an issue for everyone.Idiots on cruise ships for *s sake .

No one notice Italy's silent time bomb

We have had a lot of conjecture and guessing in this thread about the factors that contributed to Italy's situation with Covid 19. The attached article, even though it is from the Australian, provides an excellent analysis of the earlier stages of the virus spreading in northern Italy. The article is based on research by the head of the University of Milan’s department of biomedical and clinical sciences and director of the Sacco Hospital’s department of infectious disease.

I would highly recommend it.

From a personal point of view it seems pretty much in step with anecdotal information I have picked up from people I know in northern Italy, including doctors and medical specialists. I have previously read a lot about Mattia the marathon runner and footballer who is known as "patient one" - he was only just released from hospital in the last week.

I was stunned to hear about the time bomb which appears to have been the Atalanta - Valencia Champions League football match played in Milan on the 18 February and how that spread the virus. It also suggests that the return game in Valencia contributed significantly to the spread of the virus in Spain.

I've attached a pdf of the article.

ohhh hate for you to look bad on the scorecard.

Seriously its not a contest.
The ship left before Christmas, why are they idiots?

Lets see....
They are completely and totally quarantined, it was easy to do. So your first point about being on the edge as to if we can contain this thing is bullshit.
The Germans are taking up time and using resources... but wait your next point is losing jobs, so we'll just put two and two together.

Idiots on a internet forum for fu**s sake, send their boat into the ocean and sink it , cos we want the W.A. figures to look good.

oh and question 1, I'm happy to take 6 to 10 depending if they share beds.
I would need to stop going to work, as i'd then be in quarantine.
But Germans can be fun, and no need to isolate if we're all exposed.
Uber will bring us beer for sure.
I'm sure they will pitch in for the groceries.
