Sorry Buddy but i am not going to get into a pissing contest with you. You believe what you want as will i.

To what degree are McGowan and Dan responsible for that though? That sounds like a decision made at a lower level to me. Even the laxity in checking that arrangements were suitable probably happened at a lower level than premier.

Premiers role would be, has the hotel quarantine been set up to the required standard? and its lower level governance saying, yes it is, or no it isnt.

If the outbreak had occurred in WA instead(and it could have), everyone would now be saying McGowan was incompetent, and Dan was brilliant.

Do you think a lower level minister rocked up to Rottnest and said "Hey clear the island, im using it"? First theyd say "Who are you", second they would say "Piss off". That decision was entirely Marks doing and he was the only one with the authority to make it.

Mark McGowan actually said in the press whose responsibility it was. It was the Health ministers responsibility to provide options, however he had to ratify each decision made. He made all the decisions about it because ultimately like most great leaders, they want to own 100% of the responsibility if it doesnt turn out.

Putting responsibility to one side and hoping it works out isnt great leadership unfortunately. Its the old saying that its better to work smarter then harder I suppose and that is where we sit. While Dan was walking around discussing school opening hours and fighting Federal ministers on doing his own thing, he was wasting time not focusing on what he needed to focus on and that was his own states core decisions and getting the basics 100% spot on.

If he had time to publically debate Federal ministers on radio shows, he should have also had time to ratify the hotel quarantine process I believe. I know what part of those two jobs id prefer him to be doing at a time like that

For the most part, same thing with very few outliers, a similar portion to what you describe.
Come late April though when other states opened up pressure definitely increased. The ‘Dictator Dan’ tag popped up and people jumped on. Same people that are whinging it’s entirely his fault we’re in this position, and are now whinging about having to wear a mask.

But the 99% are on board with the restrictions, hopefully the 1% letting the team down continue to be called out in the news and on social media, because let’s face it - regardless of penalties, you’d need a police force the size of the population to make sure everyone was following all the rules.
Humans hey. The few always ruining it for the many.....and then turn around and call them sheep. Go figure.

Death isnt the only sad and depressing thing going on.
No, but it's the millions around the world who might not die but are surviving in a coma with massive incubation tubes stuck down their throat and family's wondering if they will die.....or not, adding up to millions upon millions suffering. But thats OK, you have a job.

Varying levels of struggle shouldnt discount the lower levels of struggle beneath it. Do you think people who cant put food on their childs plates is OK right now or something?

Its a level of struggle we need to also focus on. People being in comas is tragic, but putting it as our only focus isnt really a great thing to do. You cant discount suffering because it isnt at the highest scale of the suffering going on. A democracy like our own needs to be beyond that

Hell the top of this very forum is a depression thread. We should probably be deleting that then because they are not dieing so hey, your OK. Every struggle needs attention and respect and not, not just the ones we like to pick and choose

Prioritising is a necessity in a Pandemic. People will not die of hunger in Australia. Don't be a Drama Queen, Australia is to rich and the Government will give you food and money, as has been advertised. Are you suffering? If not then the only thing compromising you is your lifestyle.

We have jobkeeper and double dole - how are people not putting food on plates?

Prioritisng at the expense of everything else is a poor answer to a problem. You need to be beyond that and solve more then 1 problem at a time if you are a Australian government official

People will die of suicide, depression, living out on the streets. Just because the media didnt tell you about it, doesnt mean it isnt happening BTW.

Compassion is the necessity that government needs to show to all its citizens. Not just ones in the ICU ward

In the real world this happens every day. Again....The Government are putting rents on hold, food is being given out, Etc etc. I have no idea of the axe you are trying to grind. Are you grinding for grindings sake? I think you struggle with the word Compassion and it's meaning.

Better question for Foodbank then you and I.

We have a fair few who struggle in normal economic circumstances, why would the worst recession ever not enhance that and why would it be a non issue?
Because of jobkeeper and double dole....

if say for instance the government instituted a policy called jobgoawayer and 1/2 dole you might have a point

But they didnt did they?

they are paying a whole heap of money to make sure people are looked after

Not sure why the building industry is still pandered to, yet other businesses are forced to shut down in such a crazy short time frame. Just a week of skeleton staff would at least give time to contact customers about commitments, and make some arrangements.

Simple Dan thinks everyone can just lock the door and walk out.

If you aren't in Construction you must be a retailer, or be in an office ...doing that officish stuff , so can clearly work from home.

This can't be done as work from home?

That’s now 3 days in a row of 0 local cases since the two women snuck in, bloody incredible 👏👏👏. We might have dodged a bullet here, hopefully.

<<<<A man claiming diplomatic status who returned to Queensland and was subsequently diagnosed with COVID-19 was a security contractor, reinforcing the state government's call for a review of travel exemptions.

The man had permission to fly to the Sunshine Coast from NSW on Friday without having to go into quarantine.

But on Sunday he tested positive and is now in self-isolation with his wife in Maroochydore as health officials race to contact trace people who sat near him on the Jetstar flight from Sydney.>>>>

your premier needs to put a hard border up with mandatory quarantine

only so many bullets you can duck....

439 today. Pretty neutral news, probably the low part of an ebb, still consistent with about 5% growth each day. Will be at least a week until the effects of stage 4 start to appear and probably 2 or 3 before we know the full impact.
