That logic does not wash. No jab no play is a policy to incentivise parents to vaccinate when otherwise they would not (either for moral reasons or because they cbf). A government providing incentives to achieve public health outcomes is common and it will be the same with COVID vaccines.

If those same parents were told they needed to vaccinate for COVID for their child to be in day care, you bet they would sign up too at similar rates.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. My work colleagues are all in low-risk age groups for Covid and none of them see the need for them to get vaccinated, doubly so for their kids. These are not who anyone would normally consider anti-vaxxers. How strongly they feel about in the face of threats to their job or ability to participate in society remains to be seen.

Its dropping to around 55-60k a day which is good as its starting to trend downwards.

Various factors would contribute to the decline in case and death rates I think...

- Vaccination program picking up its pace since the start of the year
- Unusually cold winter keeping many indoors
- Suspected herd immunity - already at least 10% of Americans officially tested positive for COVID, it is possible far more had it but never got tested, and combined with vaccinations the Americans may have already started reaching levels where the spread declines rapidly
- The higher risk demographics (sadly) have already died off

While I wouldn't dream of suggesting a causal effect, noting where election day (Nov 3rd 2020) and the day the president stopped phoning it in (Jan 20th 2021) are on the above graph is interesting.

Surprised about the amount people on social media saying they wont take the shot because of the chemicals in the vaccine.

I have a mate that is so dead against it because of what there is in the vaccine but happily smokes, drinks and does recreational drugs on a daily basis. Massively ironic.

The internet has bred people that are "experts" from watching youtube videos.

Surprised about the amount people on social media saying they wont take the shot because of the chemicals in the vaccine.

I have a mate that is so dead against it because of what there is in the vaccine but happily smokes, drinks and does recreational drugs on a daily basis. Massively ironic.

The internet has bred people that are "experts" from watching youtube videos.

Some fruit loop managed to get onto Triple M this morning and sprout her rhetoric about how she's a frontline worker and won't be getting the jab as the Govt is trying to change our DNA etc etc. Said you could buy the vaccine components online yourself and the research is there if you want to find it.

I must say, although we can exercise free speech in this country, that's the second time in a week I've switched the radio over because Triple M have either poorly vetted who they're giving the megaphone to, or they're irresponsibly trying to whip up some panic and drama.

I just want to hear Xav take the piss out of Basil as I drive to work.

I switched it off at the changing DNA part. I highly doubt she actually works on the front lines, more likely she saw an opportunity to get on her soap box so bluffed her way through.

Yeah some lady rang up and said she was a pathologist and its mandatory to be vaccinated so that lady was full of it.

Nah i didnt. I only really listen for their rumour file thing...and X haha

That shows we do not know too much about these vaccines. Even "expert" were debating about the effectiveness of the vaccines. Many questions are not yet answered.

Experts debate about the effectiveness because trials and rollouts have produced different results for different demographics. That's healthy reasoned debate.

That is nowhere near the same league as claiming that vaccines alter DNA or cause autism or any such s**t that like that.

My wife is an essential worker as an occupational therapist, she works with disabled people though and has no specialised knowledge about vacccines. The person that rang up could have been something similar (eg nurse who works in aged care etc).

Technically a frontline worker, but certainly no better placed to talk vaccines than any other pleb. Even someone like a cardioligist or neurosurgeon doesn't have any specific qualifications in the area.

She said she works in pathology and has face to face interaction with people who are positive for Covid. Chris suggested someone else called through afterwards who is in the same/similar role and the vaccine isn't just a suggestion for these people, it's basically a requirement.

When the PM has refused to criticise Craig Kelly you cannot expect him and his government to pull anti-vax into line either.

Unfortunately we have to hope that the government provides incentives to at least begrudgingly pull them into line. One of my most educated friends who got his degree in science and married a nurse is an anti-vaxxer. The rise of the internet being able to provide 'evidence' for any outlandish belief is to blame.
