Have we had a some what goodish week in slowing it down?

Yes we have had 5 deaths over the last 2 days but the numbers are not jumping up massively like predicted.

Hopefully these extra measures do the job and slow it down more.

It's unclear. It seems so, but they're testing a bit narrowly and about to expand the testing regime. That could reveal a bigger problem.

Popped up, you tagged me in your post. What did you expect was going to happen exactly?

Again how about we worry about the blame game and dragging China over the coals later, lets make sure the highly contagious virus that's currently doing the rounds gets contained first. With the death rate that's expected on this I don't see China getting a free pass on this one, but those are talks for a later day.

My prediction: China gets away scot free and successfully pins much of the blame onto the USA. China's trading partners go along with it due to $$$.

Nothing changes and and 10-15 years there is another outbreak. Trump is blamed.

So, to recap: no ones defending China here, you are just continually going after them and then saying people are calling you racist for doing so? Then going into bat for Trump when anyone critiscizes him for his reaction to the pandemic and asking why no one is blaming China more.
You seem to be creating your own cycle of issues here.

Why let the finer details stop some good old fashioned racist dogwhistling though? Muslims have had the spotlight for two decades, time to bring back the 90s and yellow fever again. Looks like Murdoch is already onto it.

China could so very easily have been crushed by this virus - it affected them first when nobody knew it even existed. Ultimately doing something that had never before happened in history - stopping the movements of over 70 million people, contained it. If not for that effort, China would be on course for over 9 million cases by now and the house of cards that holds the second largest economy on the planet together would be falling apart.

The rest of the world had notice. The responsibility of the severity of the outbreaks in those countries lies with their respective leaderships and the actions they have taken leading up to where we are now. It doesn't lie with China.

But you right the blatant excusing of China isn't as rampant here.

You didn't answer my question though: do you think after this is all over China will close its wet markets down?

Far from ideal but kids and teens have the lowest risk of dying in terms of age groups.

Would have been worse if she was an aged care worker.
Good point. I've noticed the media really trying the hype up the threat to the children today. That baby being infected really set them off.

ChampRevesby I agree with what you said re Trump.

He's a complete nutter with no regard for anyone but Donald Trump. He's a s**t bloke. So are most world leaders. Putin is probably 10x worse a bloke than Trump. People compare him to perceived good bloke Obama, who spoke well and seemed like a good bloke. Unfortunately he was gutless amongst other things.

I just don't get why people are still hanging so much s**t on Trump when it was established three years ago that he was a s**t bloke. Flogging a dead horse

As of now China has banned the sale of live animals at the wet markets after Corona, whether that's actually happened or will continue into the future who knows. They have been in Chinese culture for generations, getting them to change overnight won't be easy.

An article on the AFL site says they are close to securing a $500M loan. That will see them through this year without having to shut any clubs. Then they need to repay it over time (hence the cuts to lists and football departments).

I honestly don't get why people follow the news religiously right now. 95% of my Coronavirus news comes from Biggie and this thread. No need to instill myself with the fear driven by mainstream news outlets

Unfortunately, he is still one of the most influential people on earth. Until that stops (or until he stops issuing public statements every second he isn’t the centre of attention) everyone will continue to hang s**t on him as he so heavily encourages by his actions and words.

It is flogging a dead horse, it’s a horse I try to avoid flogging given most sane people are on the same page, but until he stops being the President (or until he dials it back which he never will) it’s a giant target saying “please ridicule me for the terrible job I am doing”.

Honestly Australia as a whole is doing really well.

Except for NSW.
Rest of the country is doing really well considering a pretty large number of them are a direct result of a NSW f*ck up. If that didn’t happen we’d be cruising with mostly overseas plane travellers having it and we’d be well on our way to shutting it down.

QLD are doing an average job too. Slow to close the borders even after an initial large outbreak, and now mandatory voting to go ahead tomorrow.

My post wasn’t excusing China at all, it was aimed at that nutter Suns supporter.

Thing is, Americans don’t face abuse in their daily lives because of Trump hatred. Asian Australians after the coronavirus outbreak though... through friends I have heard it is happening. My family has a bit of skin in this as well, so that’s why I’m a bit less inclined to throw “the Chinese” as a nebulous group under the bus during a time when Australia’s staunchly racist minority is up & about.

This is not a defence of communists, animal markets or Winnie the pooh. Go nuts on that stuff, just be aware many in that choir just want to keep stoking xenophobia.

The problem with the PCH case is that there is no known contact with a case, either within the hospital or travelling etc... When that bit comes out the media will be on it even more.

SOURCE: Know someone who works there and they told me about this case 3 hours before 6PR did.

Inevitable bummer.

My primary issue is with how one government (Trumps) is the worst on earth and the CCP apparently is above reproach. The Chinese people themselves could tell you more about the CCP then I ever could.

Which makes it all the more important to keep the CCP honest.

Nobody is beyond reproach. Many people in this thread have criticised the Chinese response to Covid, just seemingly not in a way that works for you. Similarly, criticising the US’s response is not an acceptance of China’s response.

It’s probably time for everyone to move away from “who is most at fault for this” and get the thread back on track.
