I'm not sure the recovery will be as quick and things get back to normal as many expect.

Especially when the shit hits the fan in the US.

Right now two of the G8 economies are in complete lockdown - Italy and France.

That doesn't just go away, especially if they miss high tourist season.

I think you will see a second and potentially bigger wave of stimulus as the virus risk subsides. It definitely will have an impact but I think the recovery is much quicker than the GFC for example.

Thought i would make an early morning trip to the nearby, large Coles supermarket for a spot of "panic buying", now I was not after toilet paper or tissues etc, but fmd, no sugar, no eggs, no pasta, almost no bread, I got 2 packs each of party pies and sausage rolls, and a 5kg bag of spuds and back home again.
Everyone has turned into professional bakers didn’t you know that?

Surrounding Suburbs of Perth mate but yeah, only going through woolies online due to shortages at local woolies and coles, at least you get some supplies

Also, what is going to happen once this is over? Are we going to have excess products available?

The world has never recovered from the GFC, it just kicked the worst effects down the road with ultra-low interest rates and QE.

There'll be more stimulus but it is kind of pointless when the issue isn't demand.

The real issue is the second wave of the virus, like in 1918-19 it is going to come roaring back in the northern hemisphere later in the year for their autumn. If they have a bad winter, look out.

And this

Companies are so leveraged because they've spent the last ten years of cheap money borrowing to buy shares and pay dividends there's no wriggle room now.

It isn't just going to spring back to normal in a few months.

Remember when I said hospitality needed a massive shake up?
Maybe this is the one. There'll be a massive staff shortage for restaurants/bars/pubs if they have to close for an extended period and foreign casuals get no support

These are the times when I don’t feel so much of an economic failure for still renting, not owning a credit card and having managed to put aside around 6 months worth of savings.

Home loan can wait. Let’s see what happens over the next 6-12 months.

Home Loans haven’t been too bad the past 2 years. We have smashed thousands off ours due to low interest rates. If you can afford to pay more and not use the cuts for rubbish items then you can get ahead.

This was one of the main long terms effects of the Black Death - rebalancing a shitty system back in favour of labour.

I’m with you on this..
Don’t get me wrong there’s always a lot of organisations that will end up without a chair but there’s going to a lot that are going to come out the other side stronger then ever.

Have a look at the difference between the response from the AFL and NRL.

one we’ve got a future fund and a diverse range of investments for these types of scenarios.

the other, please help us big government, I’ll play the heartstrings because we won’t survive.

Posted this here earlier Kiwi but with your large population of Pacific islanders the last thing you want is the virus to appear in places like Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tonga & Samoa. Health systems there wouldn't cope.
it was very likely that a kiwi who was a product of a family who were either too lazy to vaccinate the kids or an anti vaxer idiot gave the islands the measles a little while ago and killed 82 people.
How we get measles in this modern day is beyond me.We stupidly tolerate people in our society who dont vaccinate and rely on the sensible people getting vaccinated for their protection.

Im pretty confident they will have a workable vaccine within a year to prevent second wave infections. The lessons from SARS and MERs were critical

If you have never had a flu shot I'd get one this year. Not because it will prevent the current virus, but you wouldn't want to catch it if your immune system is fragile from some other preventable flu

Ummm, within a year we will have had a full northern winter mate.

From October it gets cold and wet and nasty up there.

There's an NRL wag Taylor Winterstein Samoan / Aussie who spreads this crap.
She's putting out on lnstagram how huge doses of vit. C. will cure corona virus. She spread that crap in Samoa as well.

Now we are copying NZ again, except a day later.

Jeez Jacinda shits on this bloke.
