Shit time to be old

If you don't hear from me at some point in the near future, I am probably dead thanks to arseholes in China who wanted to save face in the period of time that the virus could have been contained.

Nobody knows for sure but one of the current theories is that children that are bombarded with coronaviruses that cause common colds, which adults are immune to, have caused their immune system to be hyperactive while growing up has seen their immune system attack infected cells much quicker and prevent their immune systems to become overloaded.

There are some coronaviruses that impact children as much as adults, some are more dangerous to children but not adults. In flu pandemics, children are more vulnerable than adults when it comes to developing serious health conditions because their hyperactive immune system often does serious and irreparable damage to vital organs, where a less active immune system gives the body more time to repair the damage caused by viruses.

Politicians are morons and they are influenced more by people who tell them what they want to hear than by those who tell them what they don't want to hear.

We, nor the United states, have undertaken the full measures advised by the WHO and the WHO are complicit in dropping the ball and being far too slow to act, if we are behind where the WHO is then we are in trouble.

Damn. Beat me to it

f&*k I'm 50
Oh well never mind its been a reasonable innings.
Never thought it would be a cold that would get me though.

Yep I thought I'd dealt with enough the last few months and survived, to be taken out by a foreign wet market is kind of insulting. Like you I've had some decent highlights along the way.

Am sure someone will have some nice words to say at my funeral, although it will now be limited to 499, sheesh tough job culling that list.

I don't want a huge production, maybe carried into the church via a horse drawn carriage or some such.

Andrews seems to be in his element in these situations. He instinctively seems to have a good handle on how to deal with disasters. He allowed himself to be blindsided a little by the Grand Prix, though.

Grand Prix Corporation has him by the balls in a way no other org does.

Thankfully most individuals/businesses seem to be taking matters into their own hands despite the poor leadership at the top. Hopefully this self-governing somewhat mitigates the situation.

It became a national crisis with fires joining up across state borders. Morrison stuffed that response, everyone knows it.

Hasn't been that bad this time, but isn't great either.

We can at least be thankful we don't have Trump completely f%#$ing things up every step of the way. I can't believe how inept the US response has been. Well, I can because it is Trump but how did we even get here?

Yet they have enormous control over your life, finances etc.

Yes they do and there's little we can do about it. Some say get off the grid and live this free life, and as soon as they're sick with some dreaded disease they're straight back to the man and his machine.

Just be as non conformist as you possibly can.

Forgive me for my naivety but I'm in a faraway place known as 'Asia'.

Here, in this megacity they call Kuala Lumpur, things are normal. No panic-buying or fearmongering to be seen.

The train stations (well, at least one of them, anyway) has a small static ad on a platform with basic guidelines for health precautions.

And lots of people are wearing masks, as Asians seem to like to do.

Beyond that, it is peace and quiet.

This leads me to wonder, how much of the fearpr0n and general anxiety seen among certain posters in this thread is media driven?

Social media and legacy media, I mean.

Also I wonder if some people, deep down, kinda want the world to end.

Or at least the enjoy the chaos, the excitement of an unknown future. So this latest super virus story is something they want to keep getting bigger.

Just my 2c. As I said, I'm a long way away from home, nowhere near the TV programming, so perhaps I am just naive and stuff.

I compare it the Boxing Day tsunami. For all my lifetime, huge tsunamis were something that happened in history or Hollywood movies, like, you knew it could happen but never actually thought it would.

Then one came along and killed a quarter of a million people in a morning. Ten years later another one came and you're like, ohhhh, yeah, these are the real deal.

Same with global pandemics. I actually reckon we'll see more and more of these, especially with a booming metropolitanised global population
Yeah. Totally get that. We've also had an asteroid or meteor impact over a city this decade. It injured over 1000 people.

I've got a small pox scar from immunisation. My brother, who is about 5 years younger doesn't.

Its a bit of a metaphor for how we saw global health growing up. We were set, old age or cancer if there was no nuclear war. In the 90s emergent viruses became a thing and its slowly built since.

Round here the bats have Hendra, Lyssa and probably some forms of heamorrhagic fever virus as well. CLINTS are flying around the house right now. They have Lyssavirus cos they're always fighting like rabid dogs. (I dunno if this is true but I assume so.)

So its been building to this for a while.

There is an old, allegedly Chinese, curse to go with what some would call a new Chinese curse:

May you live in interesting times.

Could get into politics and change it, that's how it happens you know.

It has been lots worse than this before you know

It'll be a short road from here to suspended AFL games.

Games are getting suspended 100 per cent.

AFL just desperate to get Rd1 played on time so they can then argue they started the season and a force majeur event screwed it.

If they have to cancel it before Rd1, contractually in shit with broadcasters.

Could maybe find you a shack round here with that attitude.

Plagues of various sorts have been the great driver of human history.

And yes, bats are baaaaaaad.
