I don’t mind being allied to them but like others I think philosophically we aren’t on the same page and you don’t need to spend that long over there to realize that. Culturally I would say ‘what is their culture’?
Freedom = free markets. (Except drugs.)

Thought it would only be a matter of time before I knew someone that contracted the virus

My wife’s 70 y.o uncle who lives in the UK come down with a bit of a sore throat about 2 weeks ago. His wife who is 63 had a chesty cough for about 3 weeks prior (turns out she tested positive had a mild case). The uncle thought it was just a cold, until he woke up in the middle of the night 2 night later with the worst fever (over 40 degrees C) he’d ever experienced...he said it was like being in a sauna with the worst joint aches he’d ever experienced.

Battled through the night and called the doc the next morning.

Doc said it was no chance of being covid 19 because they hadn’t had any close contact or travelled overseas. 2 days of severe fever, shortness or breathe before the doctor decided to come to the front of his home and do the test on him and his wife.

Another night passed with no sleep and quite severe shortness of breathe. His wife rang the hotline and then the local hospital asking for advice. Their response was “if he can still breathe on his own, and he is still conscious then don’t bring him in because we don’t have any beds...if he rapidly deteriorates then call emergency”

He spent the next 3 nights fighting this thing 24/7, with no reprieve. Got the results back and obviously tested positive.

After 6 nights he finally started to come through the other side. It’s been a week now but he is still very lethargic and has a cold dry cough. He said for those 3 or 4 nights in the middle he felt like he was battling for every single breathe. He honestly thought it was going to get him.

He is incredibly thankful that he is healthy with no underlying serious health conditions.

They believe his wife caught from the school she worked at, after she tested positive they tested a few kids (15-16 year old boys) at the school who she had been in close contact with 3 weeks prior. All 5 tested positive and all 5 were asymptomatic.

So far it’s been determined that those 5 kids have passed it on to at least 24 other people (other students and close families members).

Really hit home as to how contagious this thing really is.
Glad he made it thru.

Do your contacts believe there is any chance that the virus can be completely isolated and eliminated in Australia? Or has that ship sailed?

I didn't ask them the question, due to them referring to "second wave" infections as a crucial factor to how this plays out.

The message was, so far very good, but what we do next will define societies return to normality.

Sheer idiocy. He should have his licence to practice revoked.

Pete Evans is a gutless chicken s**t. Visited his lnstagram to ask him some questions........." comments on this post have been limited "

What a weak spined charlatan.

He’s a new age spruiker.

An absolutely detestable human who seems to have many blind followers.

100% mate. It was a week prior to everything really hitting the fan in the UK. Their testing at that stage was really poor.

Nevertheless, in my opinion his Doctor took too long to take the situation seriously. The fact that they asked the question could it be covid-19, should have had him on the front foot and doing some investigation. My view is that it is always better to act sooner rather than later. Over the years we've had some good GP's, who when you went to them with something that was a little unusual but they felt there was nothing to worry about, they have more often than not said, lets do the tests just to be sure we are on the right track.

I agree mate.

The family have already been seriously impacted by poor diagnosis. My wife’s dad lost his battle with cancer after being misdiagnosed as having kidney infections for nearly 12 months. By the time they realised it was cancer it was already terminal.

I think people sometimes get a little too dazzled by credentials.

There's a strong supply of hacks in most fields of discipline.

Why did I immediately think of Zac Dawson? (Maybe because there is a Freo v Geelong game on Fox at the present and I've seen one mongrel punt and more than one time him scraping the ground with his boot as he lines up on the mark.)

Sorry Snake you make a very good point.

A good trick is to look at for people who are passionate about their work and most importantly, make sure they are conceptual thinkers.

Rote learners with a good trade in bullshit are out there in numbers. I have met some solicitors who had been in practice for years who were half pied idiots, and contemporary universities do tend to shunt out graduates that really shouldn't be making the grade.

Australia is “on the cusp” of defeating the coronavirus pandemic as the range of people infected by one COVID-19 patient is getting lower and lower.

Deputy chief medical officer Paul Kelly said Australia is not at the danger rate of infection — an average of five people infected by one direct source — and that the epidemic could die out in several weeks at the earliest.

“Ideally, where you want to be is below one. So less than other person being infected, once the person themselves is infected,” he said in Canberra.

“Once you get to that point, the epidemic dies out. At the moment, we’re probably on the cusp of that in Australia.

“Whether that’s where we’re going to be in several weeks or months’ time remains to be seen. But at the moment, we’re certainly not anywhere near five (people being infected by one person).”

Dr Kelly said it was still too early to lift social distancing restrictions and urged Australians to stay home for Easter.

Call strikes me as being a bit too early.

12 x infected people and a 5.7 R0 would have this thing out of hand in no time.

It has to be completely eradicated.

It’s the NHS. Not the holy grail of medical systems it is made out to be. Australia has one of the best systems in the world with its mix of private and tax payer funded systems of insurance.

It sure would.

I suspect this is more about a communications strategy and switch from stick to carrot. By letting people know the finish line is in sight, as long as it's plausible, should result in better compliance than the "there is no foreseeable end to this thing" message. Eradication within Australian and watertight borders is the absolute best possible outcome for Australia in the next 12 to 18 months.
