If we accept that Trump has made a bit of a meal of the COVID-19 response - and, it would appear he has - what does that say about France, Italy, Spain and the UK? What’s their excuse(s)?

Who knows, but the US, like Australia did get some time in seeing what was happening in the rest of the world and could have planned things differently

It's fascinating to see people who provide no rational basis for their opinions, and then turn around and demand it from others.

Why not step forward and apply this to yourself first?

1) What are the underlying factors, if any, that formulated Trump's response?
2) How did you deduce the conclusion that this has been a failure?
3) Do you have any relative comparisons that you can table, because you must have this in order to make your call?

Do you even know why you have taken this position?

the previously linked NYT article sets out the above.

How do you guys feel about another six months of these restrictions?

And are you comfortable with the idea of six-month lockdowns whenever a new strain of this virus is detected somewhere in the world?

Yes bring it on

I have 3 (possibly 4) close members in the vulnerable zone and cannot think of a more sad, horrific and demoralising and lonely death that wat I have seen in the Italian and US Wards.

Fwiw I would prefer the AFL to come out and just write off 2020 than these false hopes

I’m ok with another six months of the restrictions with the caveat that there’s a crack down on on factory farming, wet markets or other areas where experts have predicted a potential virus jump.

Example, US deer hunters need to stop eating deers infected with CWD. It hasn’t made a jump yet but there’s evidence that eventually it will.

You don't think suicide is more sad, horrific, demoralising, and lonely than what you've seen on the TV?

Has it occured to you that there may be a spike in suicide as a result of people losing jobs, losing livelihoods, etc?

That wasn’t your question

What will be the mental health impacts on relatives of those who died in the US, Italy and every where else knowing what they went through?

You might want to get used to it because the 'six months' thing could easily turn into two years.

Especially if almost nobody is willing to step up and say 'wait a minute, this lockdown thing is getting silly now'.

Reduced testing.

The numbers will spike with returning Australians from overseas, who will go straight into quarantine.

Which shouldn’t count as there is basically no chance of them infecting anyone else.

You have the largest media organisation in the world saying this. They’re being overruled by the experts.

It’s not some woke truth you’re pushing.

Equating compliance with lockdowns (after a couple of weeks) with tacit approval of future suicides is an interesting position.

France, Italy and Spain have the excuse of being affected earlier. The UK and the US have been able to view what was unfolding in Italy and still didn't prepare well. Australia, on the other hand, appears to have responded very well despite our peak being earlier than the UK and the US.
