Deaths per million is a very arbitrary number.

There is plenty more hurt to go there yet.

You very well know that this is currently irrelevant as far as the relative death to whining factor goes.

Deaths per million is a very arbitrary number.

On the 15th of March, the USA had 6.6% of the confirmed cases that the combination of Italy, Spain, Germany, France, and the UK had. As of today, that number is 83.4%. Unfortunately, the death rate will follow that up as the US has added circa 350k new cases in the last 11 days. The US had more warning than Europe and still got it badly wrong.

Also, since when has the US compared itself to the worst-performing countries in the world on anything? They are the richest, most powerful (or at least they were until recently) country on earth and as recently as 2019 were judged to be the nation best prepared for a pandemic by the WHO. You should be comparing them to South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany, etc if you are claiming they have done a good job.

wonder if Robert F Kennedy Jnr is about to be sued by Mr Gates.

Vaccines, for Bill Gates, are a strategic philanthropy that feed his many vaccine-related businesses (including Microsoft’s ambition to control a global vaccination ID enterprise) and give him dictatorial control of global health policy.

Gates’ obsession with vaccines seems to be fueled by a conviction to save the world with technology.

Promising his share of $450 million of $1.2 billion to eradicate Polio, Gates took control of India’s National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) which mandated up to 50 doses(Table 1) of polio vaccines through overlapping immunization programs to children before the age of five. Indian doctors blame the Gates campaign for a devastating non-polio acute flaccid paralysis (NPAFP) epidemic that paralyzed 490,000 children beyond expected rates between 2000 and 2017. In 2017, the Indian government dialed back Gates’ vaccine regimen and asked Gates and his vaccine policies to leave India. NPAFP rates dropped precipitously.
In 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) reluctantly admitted that the global explosion in polio is predominantly vaccine strain. The most frightening epidemics in Congo, Afghanistan, and the Philippines, are all linked to vaccines. In fact, by 2018, 70% of global polio cases were vaccine strain.

In 2014, the Gates Foundation funded tests of experimental HPV vaccines, developed by Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) and Merck, on 23,000 young girls in remote Indian provinces. Approximately 1,200 suffered severe side effects, including autoimmune and fertility disorders. Seven died. Indian government investigations charged that Gates-funded researchers committed pervasive ethical violations: pressuring vulnerable village girls into the trial, bullying parents, forging consent forms, and refusing medical care to the injured girls. The case is now in the country’s Supreme Court.

In 2010, the Gates Foundation funded a phase 3 trial of GSK’s experimental malaria vaccine, killing 151 African infants and causing serious adverse effects including paralysis, seizure, and febrile convulsions to 1,048 of the 5,949 children.

During Gates’ 2002 MenAfriVac campaign in Sub-Saharan Africa, Gates’ operatives forcibly vaccinated thousands of African children against meningitis. Approximately 50 of the 500 children vaccinated developed paralysis. South African newspapers complained, “We are guinea pigs for the drug makers.” Nelson Mandela’s former Senior Economist, Professor Patrick Bond, describes Gates’ philanthropic practices as “ruthless and immoral.”

In 2010, Gates committed $10 billion to the WHO saying, “We must make this the decade of vaccines.” A month later, Gates said in a Ted Talk that new vaccines “could reduce population”. In 2014, Kenya’s Catholic Doctors Association accused the WHO of chemically sterilizing millions of unwilling Kenyan women with a “tetanus” vaccine campaign. Independent labs found a sterility formula in every vaccine tested. After denying the charges, WHO finally admitted it had been developing the sterility vaccines for over a decade. Similar accusations came from Tanzania, Nicaragua, Mexico, and the Philippines.

A 2017 study (Morgenson et. al. 2017) showed that WHO’s popular DTP vaccine is killing more African children than the diseases it prevents. DTP-vaccinated girls suffered 10x the death rate of children who had not yet received the vaccine. WHO has refused to recall the lethal vaccine which it forces upon tens of millions of African children annually.

Global public health advocates around the world accuse Gates of steering WHO’s agenda away from the projects that are proven to curb infectious diseases: clean water, hygiene, nutrition, and economic development. The Gates Foundation only spends about $650 million of its $5 billion dollar budget on these areas. They say he has diverted agency resources to serve his personal philosophy that good health only comes in a syringe.

In addition to using his philanthropy to control WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, and PATH, Gates funds a private pharmaceutical company that manufactures vaccines, and additionally is donating $50 million to 12 pharmaceutical companies to speed up development of a coronavirus vaccine. In his recent media appearances, Gates appears confident that the Covid-19 crisis will now give him the opportunity to force his dictatorial vaccine programs on American children.

Gold Coast beaches continue to be a daily destination for peeps

Noosa beach a couple of days ago. During school holidays no less! I was out excercising which is allowed. Didn't swim though as the water has dropped to a nasty 24 degrees brrrrrr.
It's sad to see it like this but that's how it must be for now.

The idea that one would have to be a member of the White House Covid19 taskforce to know whether or not Trump has done a good job in leading the US response is just complete and utter nonsense. If all we did was listen to the words that came directly out of Trump's mouth we would have a very clear idea. We would have absolutely no idea what was going on, or what the facts were, but we would clearly understand he is in completely out of his depth, and that his ignorance and soaring narcissism are huge impediments.
If this thread is any indication, two out of three scientists prefer Trump be cut some double blind slack

New York City (alone) = Population density of 28,188/sq mile and 5,500 deaths.
Belgium = Population density of 991/sq mile and 3,903 deaths.

As smartarses go, you're an abject failure.

This is a stupid argument. No one knows anything about the real numbers anywhere. There are something like 1800 - 2000 more deaths at home than there were in 2019. None of which are added to the official death rates according to the nyt which wrote an article trying to work out what was actually going on in terms of mortality.

It could be that only deaths that are associated with a positive test are counted in the official stats, which would potentially lower them further in relation to actual deaths from it.

Its all speculation and a lot more speculative than the argument that Trumps public statements alone over the course of this situation have made things significantly worse instead of better.

Cue: ...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but...but........
And you want people to laud your brilliant scientific mind?

The failure of science within the community is communication. You deliberately try to sound cleverer than everyone by using terms and words in a way that you hope will Bamboozle.
You are nearly always communicating poorly. Not very scientific if information dissemination is your goal.

Glad you are not an expert advising anyone making decisions. You can learn something out of this

And some wanted herd immunity. It'd wipe out half their population.

This is a disaster. This is because they didn't act quick enough to not go the herd immunity route. They sealed their fate weeks ago. Was it weeks? Its a bit weird keeping track of time at the moment.

Its as bad a **** up as the US. Maybe worse. Who knows yet.

I think the UK is pretty resilient in terms of surviving disasters. I've heard some people freaking out about the US. Some are expecting their society to effectively collapse, as bad or worse than the depression.

We might be lucky and avoid this sort of mess. I guess well know in a month, maybe less.

Oh I thought we were posting irrelevant info that provides nothing to the thread except a chance for you to complain about people complaining about Trump.

The Goodies and Monkee made the ABC cool in the school yard. If you weren’t watching either you were a social pariah

Think you may have conflated your TV sideburns there, Gaso.

I see the Trump debate rages on.

So hard to know just which poster's take to put the most stock in. (It's not, but just play along anyway.)

Time to 'phone a friend'. I mean, sure, he may not be a member of the White House Coronavirus task force, but it goes without saying that the man possesses an intellect and understanding of socio-political matters that far outstrips any person posting on this forum.

From an interview conducted 4 days ago.....

".....countries have reacted to this in many ways, some very successfully, some more or less successfully. One is at the bottom of the barrel. That’s us."
- Noam Chomsky

For those that cbf'ed reading the full interview, here's a few interesting points made by 'The Garden'.....

"Through Trump’s term, the last four years, he has been systematically cutting back on all of the health-related aspects of the government.
Some of it is almost surreal. So, in October, for example, just very exquisite timing, he canceled completely a USAID project — Predict, it was called — that was working in Third World countries, also in China, to try to detect new viruses that might turn into the anticipated pandemic."

"Right now in New York and other places, doctors and nurses are forced to make agonizing decisions about who to kill — not a nice decision to make — because they simply don’t have equipment. And the main lack is ventilators, huge shortage of ventilators. Well, the Obama administration did make an effort to try to prepare for this. And this kind of dramatically reveals the kind of factors that are leading to catastrophe. They contracted with a small company that was producing high-quality, low-cost ventilators. The company was bought up by a larger one, Covidien, which makes fancy, expensive ventilators. And they shelved the project. Presumably, they didn’t want competition with their own costly ones. Shortly after that, they turned to the government and said they wanted the contract ended. The reason was it was not profitable enough, so therefore no ventilators."

"....we have a freak show in Washington, a totally dysfunctional government, which is causing enormous problems. And it’s not that nothing was known. A pandemic was anticipated all through Trump’s term, even before. His reaction was to cut back preparation for it. Astonishingly, this continued even after the pandemic hit.
So, on February 10th, when it was already serious, Trump released his budget for the coming year. Take a look at it. The budget continues the defunding of the Center for Disease Control and other government institutions responsible for health, continues to defund them. It increases funding for some things, like fossil fuel production, gives new subsidies to the fossil fuel industries. I mean, it’s as if the country is simply — maybe not “as if” — the country is simply run by sociopaths. "

"U.S. intelligence was well aware of it. They spent January and February trying to get somebody in the White House to pay attention to the fact that there’s a major pandemic. Just nobody could listen.....Yesterday, we learned that one very high-level official, very close to the administration, Peter Navarro, in late January had sent a very strong message to the White House saying this is a real danger. But even he couldn’t break through."

"It would be very useful for Americans to compare Trump’s ravings with Angela Merkel’s, the German chancellor; her sober, factual account to the German people, describing exactly what’s happening and what has to be done."

Tl;dr?
Add Chomsky's name to the list of people who think Trump made a meal of this.

Really? Anti-vaxx conspiracy theories and bullshit?

I religiously watched The Goodies with my brother and sister at 6pm every weekday on the ABC ( after Catweazel ?) for years. When my own children were young I bought the DVD’s of The Goodies. So I sit down to watch them and realize there are posters of topless chicks in The Goodies house ( Bill Oddies I’m guessing). ....never once did I ever notice the posters as a kid. I’m guessing the ABC didn’t notice them either 😂

I don't remember seeing the posters either.....but I'm going to rewatch to check. You could get away with things in the 70's you can't now. I've been getting my kids into the Goodies too, everytime they see a monkey they call it "Funky Gibbon" and they know the words to the song.

I used to look a bit like Tim Brooke-Taylor at school (straight blonde hair), and always impersonated him. Had a friend called Gregg who looked a bit like Graeme Garden too (minus sideburns!) and he was real smart as well.......could never find a suitable Bill Oddie though.

Funny you mention Catweazel. I loved that show and recorded it on cassette tapes to listen to, which I used to do when I had a cassette player. Was still funny just listening to it. Still have the cassettes, but no cassette player.

It was a fun time to be a kid.
