Fair enough, I get your perspective, and even if I disagree, I still appreciate you taking the time to reply.

A mate of mine once told me he thought we were 'on the brink of calamity', this was around 2014.

Six years on, are we any closer to calamity? I'm not so sure.

We've been on the brink of calamity for ages economically. There was a good chance rebuilding after the fire season would have helped at a local level the way school halls and pink bats did but that won't happen now.

Wages aren't growing but prices are, everything is funded by debt and the whole model is based on rabid ongoing consumption, which used to be the name for a fatal disease ironically enough.

17 round season every team plays each other once
could extend all the way to December if needed
First 4 rounds will remain, 13 other rounds to be refixtured

round 1likely to go ahead as is

If 1 player tests positive 2 week shutdown for the league rinse and repeat

could end up playing any day of the week

Calm down port Adelaide

Also anyone we played twice should have the Shaw result instead.. we'd be 10-7 or so by my reckoning

Exactly... Port and Freo were in much more pain than that shows

We better end up with the 9 home games like half the comp

top 9 sides can have 8 home games

they'll probably give the 9 home games to the non-victorian sides + geelong, since we'll end up playing away games in melbourne anyway

Ferbs and few others had discussed similar , thought it could come in handy for those modern day hunter gatherers :)
Pickled foods are a great tip

UPDATE: Every *essendon player has Covid-19

Every *essendon AFL player has had a precautionary coronavirus test after they exhibited flu-like symptoms.

Every player had contact with a needle that had been in China earlier this year.

According to the Worsfold, the players will undergo a 14-day isolation period (longer if needed) and will be ready for round 1

“The players reported to club medical staff (on Monday) that they were suffering flu-like symptoms,” the club said in a statement.

“As a precautionary measure and despite the fact that the players had reported no flu-like symptoms last week, the players were immediately sent for testing and isolated.

“The test results are expected to take 24-48 hours. The club will provide a further update when more information becomes available.”

*essendon captain Dyson Heppell said he learned of the incident on Friday afternoon when they came back from an offsite location.

“It’s all unfolded pretty quickly,” he said.

“We’re stepping through the process at the moment and hopefully we’ll be cleared for round 1.

“(The players) have gone through the standard protocol, absolutely maximum measures of protection so far"

“At this point, we just wait and see what comes back.”

Heppell said there had been talked of all other players being quarantined and said he wasn’t overly concerned about the incident at this stage.

“All the advice that we’ve been given is that it’s a non-panic situation,” he said.

“At the moment it (the virus) is in its infancy and it’s just starting to affect us all.

“We’re remaining calm, stepping through the protocol and the doctors have told us not to stress too much.”

"According to the coaches, it's pretty good timing because getting this super virus will really boost our immune system so we will have a good kick start going into the season. Daniher said that despite having a sore throat his groin is almost at 100%"

When asked by ASADA to provide the needle it couldn't be found but the medical staff said it "don't worry it was definitely Covid-19"

The outbreak of the virus is causing havoc on sport fixtures around the world.

When you brief ministers with expert opinion informing recommendations you'd think they would but often they or their staffers like to 'add value' by making changes. Essentially their egos can't take it.

However, in this instance there may be a difference of opinion amongst immunologists. Potentially the ones advising the chief medical officers, departments and ministers' offices disagree with Dan Suan and others. Or the chief medical officers disagree with the immunologists. Lots of potential scenarios - it's murky.
Nothing to do with 'ego', it's the Minister's name on the ballot paper and their staff's jobs on the line accordingly, not the bureaucrat.

In an instance such as this the advice would be being taken straight down the line. The CMO, his committee and the National Cabinet are taking advice from world leading experts, not just relying on their own knowledge. Clearly there are contested views but they can do no more than that.
