Just listening to a doctor. Italy's big problem is their health system. It can't cope, people are dying in corridors because of lack of equipment, people who quite likely would have lived if they were able to get the treatment they need. I hope our go ernment is taking this serious and are starting to prep hospitals for what might be a barrage

Our system won't cope either.

Italy’s public sector has been completely, completely ****ed for a decade. Of all the shocks to come out of this, the fact that their health system is underprepared is not one of them.

If China can adequately handle a population of 1.4 billion people, then we should not panic, and our remoteness is actually a godsend, provided government action is responsible, and I very much doubt China's health system is as good as hours on a total population basis. Virtue signaling politics has no place in this thing.

That Twitter feed JeanLucGoddard put up a few days ago had Drs in Italy doing the most ****ed up triage you've heard. Basically - over 65 then tough luck no ventilator...
Under 65 and comorbidity - same deal.

Push effort into slowing the spread. Flatten the infection spike.

People will still get it but less people die because there is more adequate medical coverage.

The next fortnight in the US is going to be incredibly interesting given their health system and a workforce that does not encompass the same sort of entitlements that ours does.

Anyone who smokes **** would be very wise to stop right now.

a) Because they'll kill you
b) They're expensive
c) If it gets bad here and they smell smoke on you, you're going to the back of the line permanently for treatment

That's why I posted three days ago about pulling the kids out of school. I've got a cold right now. I've had a dry cough since half way thru the fire season. Hope it's the virus cos it's not really a problem atm.
