PM has advised all Australians to "reconsider your need to travel overseas at this time, regardless of your destination, age or health - if your travel is not essential, consider carefully whether now is the right time."

I'd rather he considered stopping those coming back here (or controlled quarantine), never mind those leaving

Will be very important to get those flu shots from the first of April. People in risk groups (old people and people with other health problems) should be getting it ASAP when available. A secondary flu infection together with a COVID-19 one would put them at very high risk!!!!
Yes, would suggest those on here in the high-risk groups to start booking in for shots. They won't be available until April 1 as you mention, but there are many clinics or even Chemist Warehouse taking bookings, and some are booked out until May.

Mate if its on I'll be there. Possibly wearing a Hazmat suit, but I'll be there.
Well, theres a ban on gatherings of over 500 peeps from Monday, so it ain't going ahead with a crowd, if it goes ahead at all.

Although Scotty from marketing is still going to go to the NRL on Saturday because "it might be the last game I get to go to for a long time.”

Nice one Scotty. Way to set the example.

How do you ban flights from Italy, when a person coming from, say, Dubai, could have been in Italy? There are no direct flights from Italy, yet a person from anywhere in Europe could travel to Frankfurt by train for example, then fly from there to Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi. Same with Iran.
Yes, it's nearly impossible to put in place, and so many people from the hot spots have been using Bangkok and KL as stopovers to cover up their points of origin. Singapore has been draconian with it, checking travel histories and the like, but there are clearly still those that slip through. It's just that they have been able to limit transmission to a degree. Australia's advantage is that we are an island continent, so if we were to be hyper-vigilant about containment, the airports would have been place to do it. For a country that blows its trumpet about border protection, we have been pretty lax at our airports. Not that it's relevant now, as we are into the local transmission phase.

I agree, it should be possible to stop this from getting to an island, but the reality is, virtually all inbound flights needed to have been blocked to achieve this. It is virtually impossible.

Nah, just swab everyone who comes via flight. Tell them to isolate for 24hrs until the results of the tests.

with a threat of massive fines if they don’t.

But the virus won't show up in a test during the incubation period

Okay, excellent idea mods.

Antiviral housekeeping

As pointed out this thing can stay suspended in aerosol droplets for ~30 minutes, surfaces for up to a couple of days depending upon conditions, and in toilet fecal matter for up to 5 days (flush --> aerosols), and don't worry if you can't see turds, it's in their anyway.

Things that Covid19 does not like:

- soap
- alcohol (metho)
- warm conditions
- ultraviolet rays (sunlight)

Getting home:

First thing the inhabitants of your abode should immediately do when they get home is -

1) Have a tray set aside for disinfecting everyday items that you bring inside (keys, cash, coins, etc), spray the tray with a fine mist of methylated spirits in a spray bottle, then place these items spread out in the tray, and apply another fine mist of spray to the exposed sides. Leave it to evaporate.
2) Wipe mobile phones down with a metho soaked cloth/napkin.
3) Remove outside clothes and place them for laundering at the end of each day, then go straight to the bathroom and wash hands with warm water and soap thoroughly, then place on clothes that are clean or have not been outside.
4) After doing this take the metho spray and a fresh paper towel or cloth, and spray & wipe car door handles, door fittings-light switches etc. you have contacted when you came inside. Your home should now be sterile.
5) Any other items like frozen food will kill the virus in your freezer, tinned/packaged stuff/non perishables can be disinfected with some exposure to sunlight.

Laundering:

-utilise a disinfecting agent (eucalyptus oil, etc.) with your clothes wash.

Toilet:

- Always flush with the lid down, and hit the toilet area with a burst of disinfecting spray as you exit (Glen 20). Disinfect your toilet regularly.
- Try not to use public toilets, but if you have to, be wary of the surfaces and aerosols.

Health:

- Breathe through your nose where possible and do not tolerate the bad manners of anyone who consistently coughs without covering their mouth. Call them on it!
-
Need to use ATM's/fuel bowers etc,.? Use a disposable rubber glove.
- Vitamin D3 is good for immune boost. Get it.
- If you get a cough or flu like symptoms, ISOLATE YOURSELF IMMEDIATELY AND INFORM YOUR FAMILY FRIENDS.

- Jump on your kids about this!!!

This is not a difficult or expensive thing to mediate.

Metho, soap, spray bottle, disinfecting spray, disinfecting wash, paper towels/cloth should set you back no more than 25-30 bucks.

I believe it will, I posted up an article previous about the Veneto cluster specifically region of Padua, basically blanket test everyone.
Problem is cost, especially if it’s everyone coming into the country.

Although cost of testing vs stock market crash, there’s hundreds of billions difference. might be something oz will look at doing in future.

Yep, blocking is the most extreme measure. But there are other containment options (which are happening in some countries) - signed declarations regarding recent travel history, thermal imaging of all passengers, testing of all symptomatic passengers and tracking their movements re. self-isolation. These measures need serious resourcing but it is the first phase of containment that is the most critical and in hindsight, Australia has done relatively well but could also have done more.

A 65-year-old woman has been charged with stealing face masks, antiseptic hand wash and other medical supplies from a Perth hospital.

  • The woman was at the hospital to mentor work experience students
  • She allegedly took 60 masks, antiseptic hand wash, swabs and other items
  • Police recovered the items, but they now cannot be used

It is alleged the woman stole 60 face masks, bottles of antiseptic hand wash, hospital grade antiseptic wipes and a large quantity of antiseptic swabs.
Police say the items were taken for her personal use.
