My favourite irrational panic buying is the empty flour shelves. People who never bake are suddenly going to be making their own bread and pasta? I went through a bread making stage and never got anywhere near expert.

Posted this here earlier Kiwi but with your large population of Pacific islanders the last thing you want is the virus to appear in places like Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tonga & Samoa. Health systems there wouldn't cope.
I agree, most people in this country won't know how to cook with basic ingredients. My favourite irrational panic buying is the empty flour shelves. The Cruise Industry Pressured Caribbean Islands Amid Coronavirus Concerns
At least three island governments were forced to make crucial public health decisions under pressure from the cruise giant Carnival.theintercept.com
I too don't want to be seen as a political defender or cheerleader either for similar reasons (same with the fire stuff too), but you are completely right. All leaders are acting on the advice of the medical experts and 'analysts'.I ****ing hate it when I have to be seen to be supporting the likes of Morrison from morons that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.
Morrison will be taking advice from health department virology experts who will be running "phylogeographic" infection rate computer models in order to STEM the flow of infection to correlate with the peak loads of the medical system.
There's no "policy" that can stop infections altogether. That's sheer idiocy. What's more, it's a stupid idea.
Wat are your thoughts on Bali? Supposed to be going there in September

At the end of the day, it is up to every individual to do their societal duty and use their common sense. Government policy can only go so far in covering up for the idiocy of individual citizens.

It's why I chose history over political science, in spite of having degrees in both. I can maintain my ethical standing, be aware of why the world is the way it is and I can be more aware of my individual biases and 'ethical limitations' as a historian; you have no hope as a politician. The average politician doesn't have any idea as to how to deal with this.
They are politicians in the first place because they were too stupid and/or unethical to be scientists.

They should be making a call on it now tbh.I doubt there will be any footy past Round 1
Was flying to NZ on Tuesday for work, now cancelled. I personally had no issue travelling but spending two weeks in a hotel room isn't a great incentive.
Working from home now for a few weeks. Means using more toilet paper though![]()
