Wait what?
it’s showing a strategy in containing the virus. If they can identify and isolate the carriers before they become sick, it’s easier to track and identify spread.

Singapore has similar thing in place but all they do is check temps, anyone who goes over 38 is isolated. So they check all over, entering shopping malls, train stations, schools.

strategy is not hard to implement.

How many people live in that town? Could the same strategy be used on a major city (not controlled by an authoritarian government like China)

This virus isn’t going away. Are they going to do that until a vaccine is available?

I’m no Goverment man but I’d think setting up stations like this wouldn’t be so difficult..
Can’t imagine many people would be against getting their temp checked.
It’s how Singapore hasn’t shut done anything yet, while still being a transport hub of the world.

You can’t get one for love or money at the moment

I picked up a nice pink "ovulation" thermometer at chemist warehouse the other day for 15 bucks.

I could have bought 6 of them if I wanted.

Been checking my temp as I have been a bit symptomatic of cold/flu lately, it works brilliantly, and as far as I can tell I am not ovulating either..

That's probably a relief hey.

Do you think it's "left unchecked" at the moment?

Australia seems to be taking this more seriously than people in Europe did, but it's hard to tell at the moment.

No definitely not left unchecked. Hopefully, our actions are timely and effective enough. If we can keep our growth linear rather than exponential that will be a huge acheivement.

I understand, I just don't see it happening. What you have attached isn't best evidence, it's worst case scenario BS, but to date this Virus is spreading with all the haste of a drunken Ant.

Because Morrison and the Federal Government were seen as weak and indecisive during the early stages of the Bushfire crisis they are over compensating now.

Is the virus concerning? Yes it is.

Should I be following all the advice provided by Medical Community and Federal Government? Yes I should.

But what I'm seeing and hearing from both is disproportionate to what I am witnessing on the streets.

You are mischaracterising my post and you are seriously deluded. You also proved my point that there are people out there that have no concept of exponential growth.

My claim that infections will double every day is absolutely based on the best available evidence as it has happened pretty much everywhere. Look at the numbers in any given country that is dealing with this thing on any scale now.

The claim that is spreading with the haste of a drunken ant is dangerous BS. About two weeks ago we had 30 odd cases. It has increased 35 fold since then.

Where will we be in another two weeks if we just cruise along?

Why would you think what you are witnessing on the streets matter? Should we just wait so you can witness Wuhan or Nothern Italy like outcomes on the streets on Melbourne? About 7,000 people have died in those two cities alone in a matter of weeks.

It seems like it has been the most successful strategy that also has the benefit of being least intrusive to ongoing daily life if the examples in Singapore and Taiwan can be replicated. Having availability to sufficient quantities of test kits would be the key.

I totally understood everything you wrote, I am far from delusional and nothing that you have written backs up what is happening in Australia.

The first case of Corona in Australia was recorded on the 25th January and yet we still have only 708 cases as of the 19th of March. Australia's growth rate in 2019 was about 900-950 people a day, we haven't even reached that figure as a total yet, after almost two months, that doesn't sound like exponential growth to me.

In Canberra, we have climbed from 1 to 4 in 9 days. F*** me I'm trembling.

You are going on about crap that is not relevant to Australia and trying to scare people about mass epidemic that may not occur here because the initial measures from our Medical Authorities and Governments have had a positive effect in the reduce the outbreak.

I will do everything that is asked of me by the Medical Authorities and Governments with regards to the Corona Virus because it is the right thing to do, even if I think some of their measures are disproportionate to what is actually happening, but the one thing I won't do is go into a delusional panic about the world coming to an end when it is quite clearly not.

You really don't understand and you have clearly demonstrated you have no concept of exponential growth. This thing started globally with a single confirmed case 73 days ago and now there are close to 250k confirmed cases and over 8,000 dead.

To think that what has happened in Wuhan or Nothern Italy is not relevant to Australia is naive stupidity and arrogance. Look at a graph mapping the daily trajectory of our infection rates compared to Italy at the same point in the cycle and then get back to me.

The measures we are taking are not about what has happened in Australia so far they are about what will happen if we don't get on top of it.

Have a look at the stats of people contracting covid from overseas vs community to community here.

19/3/20 - +142 = +25.00%
18/3/20 - +116 = +25.83%
17/3/20 - +77 = +20.37%
16/3/20 - +77 = +25.75%
15/3/20 - +49 = +19.60%
14/3/20 - +42 = +20.10%
13/3/20 - +50 = +31.45%
12/3/20 - +24 = +17.78%
11/3/20 = +20 = +18.69%
10/3/20 = +14 = +15.05%

That is most definitely still exponential.

Stop posting shit.

And the mortality rate decreasing on a daily basis too

Yep.

I'd suggest greater testing giving a truer indication who is infected, rather than totally new cases developing day by day.

Love this!

I have also done everything asked of me and self isolating where possible, but old mate GarnerSmash accused me of not giving a **** about any other human being because I refused to buy into the panic. He deleted the post very quickly.

Can't I just look for non specific cause relationships in different populations and reach a scientific conclusion?

Sure. If you want to be illogical about it.
