This bastard virus hasn't even really started with us in this country yet and judging by what I'm seeing in the media, there's an awful lot of people not taking it seriously.

This is what alarms me the most. I could simply be taking the dog for a walk around the block and pick it up because some w***er thinks they're invincible.

Scary days.

Agreed. The country should be in lockdown for awhile. Don’t know wtf the government is waiting for.

For probably the first time in my life, I feel a sense of impending doom.

This possibly sounds a bit over the top, but I'm a 50+ yo bloke who is a steroid dependent chronic asthmatic who also has sarcoidosis of the lungs. I've been hospitalised four times previously (not in recent years) with pneumonia and when younger, had asthma severe enough to be intubated in ICU. Basically, if I get this, I'm pretty well stuffed.

I'm taking the appropriate precautions and working from home, social isolation, washing my hands, etc like a banshee, but just cannot shake the feeling that I'm going to get it somewhere along the line due to my lowered immunity.

Sorry to read this.

You need to lock down hard until a vaccine arrives mate. No one in to your premises, and get someone to deliver food items to your door in a sterilized condition.

" It is an RNA molecule of about 30,000 bases containing 15 genes"

15 bloody genes. The thing is barely even reactive.

Who would have thought that out of 30,000 measly bases & only 15 genes, that something like this could have evolved to interact with humans.

Michael Osterholm.

Edit- cos you’re a science geek, actually, he didn’t predict that. He predicted everything else because you can’t just look at this virus in isolation. Because of the conditions of the wet market it was inevitable that a virus would jump to humans eventually.

This is an ex CDC Leader on CNN atm in their Health section-

“The virus is much more infectious than influenza or the SARS virus, which it closely resembles. This week, new data showed that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, can live on contaminated surfaces as the SARS virus can, so it may spread, sometimes explosively, from doorknobs, elevator buttons and contaminated surfaces in hospitals and elsewhere.”

I heard 2 days ago we would be in lock down by Monday 12pm looks like it’s heading that way for 3 weeks.

It didn’t come from the wet market.. unless there was multiple patient zeros, People contracted it before Jan, who had nothing to do with the markets.

Hang in there mate. Be positive and do what you can to boost your immune system.

I think we all feel a sense of doom, but your situation sounds pretty awful.

However in addition to taking all the precautions you are taking, I strongly suggest that you try not to worry about it. Easier said than done I know, but stress is a great killer of the immune systems ability to fight viruses.

Ms. Horace has passed on to us a newsletter from an American academic by the name of Bruce Lipton. He has held a number of academic posts over many years and I won't try to define exactly what he might best be described as. Presently it appears he works with the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, teaching about immunology.

In this newsletter he talks extensively about how stress undoes our immune response.

I hope I am doing him justice. I'll ask Ms Horace if it is okay to post the stuff she sent us, here. Also here is a link to his website.

A long read, but a great read. Well worth a look for all - might take a bit of the panic away.

For me, the first stat I’ll be watching is the new daily cases graph - a few days with fewer and fewer would be a great sign.

Interesting that the article says not much science to the benefit of lockdowns.

The yanks blame Dr Peng Zhou and Dr Shi Zhengli research teams in wuhan.

the Chinese are saying it came from the yanks, during 2019 military world games in wuhan..

My guess is one of these is true.

Are those first two part of the teams that did all that work on corona viruses after SARS?

There is a bunch of stuff posted in various journals over the last decade about work from the sites in Wuhan. Its easy to think that a **** up happened. That fits with the cover up, and the wet market story.

Of course if you wanted to release a virus that attacked the economy of a potential enemy while removing useless eaters - the old and the weak - then that's also the perfect place to do it given everything we know about the joint.

And a world military games would be a great place to do it.

I've got a cousin in Vansterdam. She read The Stand, by Stephen King for the first time over Dec/Jan. Finished it as the first reports started filtering out. It freaked her out apparently.

Christ man, I thought you actually knew something.
The worse part about that is they’re actually offical lines.. who knows.

but as far as it dating goes, the December timeframe is bullshit.

the world military games would explain why there’s a disproportionate number of government types who have it.

but honestly who knows

There something I never thought I'd have to read. Strange days indeed Snake!

Cheers krakouers85. I'm comfortable with how I'm approaching it. It's every other bugger that worries me! Unless you go full on Tom Hanks in Castaway, you're susceptible.
