Although it makes a good news headline, which is counterproductive and bloody dangerous.

FFS, as if Johnson & Johnson, Roche, Bayer, Glaxo-Smith-Kline or Merck haven't already mined this stuff to death in order to find lead compounds for a nice big juicy pharma patent?!

The bigger irony is that the folks who push this woo woo stuff tend to be the folks who also despise the big pharma who have already mined it or tossed it away.

No but its a submerged ancient city. I thought you might have dived it.

Its in Palua.

Nah, think its further out further east. Dived some WWII wrecks, unexploded bombs, plenty of gas masks, and old sake bottles, sharks everywhere and the most amazing viz, 50m+, some massive currents though they operator I was diving with actually attached a submersible GPS transmitter to my BCD just in case.

Seriouslyness though, I know it's a time of angst and uncertainty, but a couple of folks could do with chilling out a little. It's a footy forum - no-one's playing for sheep stations here. We're all Shinboner faithful. If you find some anonymous person on the internet's views to be so objectionable that you can't control your anger and/or you're unable to respond with anything other than abuse, it's probably a good time to switch off the pc and go for a bit of a walk.....

....by yourself.....

....wearing a face mask.....

....and a bullet-proof vest in case you encounter any of the numerous military death squads that now roam our streets enforcing oppressive, freedom-stripping martial law that will remain in place until the day that human life on this planet ends.

Speaking of which.....

You know that game day threads always turn to s**t. Emotions just get the better of some posters

This is flat out wrong. I just read a paper about a healthy 53 year old woman who survived the lung infection with no issues and a week later ended up in a cardiac ward in serious trouble.

I don't know that many Americans but two have reported deaths in otherwise healthy people under 40.

Its probably worse than is being reported simply because of the chaotic nature of getting accurate info in situations like this.
BBC website this morning had a bunch of photos of victims of covid 19, click on them and there's a bit about them......you'd be surprised how many young, otherwise healthy people there are.

Agree. Trump is furiously trying to blame anyone and everyone for the disaster that is unfolding in the US and the\at definitely includes China, along with state governors, the Obama administration and whoever else he can think of. His base laps it up and roll out the attack to each new chosen blame target. Unfortunately, the blame China gambit manifests itself in acts of racism against anyone of Asian appearance.

The idea of Trump and Xi getting deep into a battle of egos and lies is very disturbing.

I just had a good look at a report of the measures 42 nations have taken to combat covid 19. The thing that really stands out is how relaxed the US restrictions are compared to elsewhere.

That's a pretty cynical way to look at it.
It wasn't just practised in USA or Europe either. Much of NZ's infrastructure was put in place during the 30's and 40's with public work schemes. I imagine it would have been the same in Aussie.
Similar things will happen around the world now. The world will be much more Govt focused as Governments will prop up key businesses and create work schemes. For example our Govt will buy a bigger stake in Air NZ , because as an island nation we can't afford for that to fail.
Cynical but correct..... "The War Effort" will long be a term people use and remember. The Queen herself called on Britains to take make a war like sacrifice.

Makes the $34 million they paid Cheney as an exit package look very cheap!
Bargain at twice the price.

Halliburton are a bit dodgy. It was their work that failed on the Deepwater Horizon blowout but they spent years and a tiny percentage (1-2%ish) of that Iraq money trying to avoid any responsibility. Money well spent... BP wore most of the blame.

So I am trying to make sense of above whilst eating my lunch

This is Science v Natural therapies?
That's about the gist of it.

It appears Sopwiths North makes a nice little earner by selling Traditional Chinese Medicine to pet owners who dearly love their dog/cat and have hippyish tendencies and enough cash to spunk for it. We are assured at the same time it is both highly efficacious and impossible to test against what we think of as medicine, which of course seems highly convenient to the cynics amongst us. Sopwiths however, is a true Shinboner and seems very genuine in his belief in the magical healing of TCM so I am happy to take him at face value. Snake being a hardcore scientist is less convinced by these arguments and has very politely put his case forward.

Now that's cleared up I'm off for my reiki appointment.

Nothing more peaceful in this world then diving with your lungs attached to your back.

I have one sibling who practises TCM and another sibling who has a degrees in Pharmacy and Nuclear Medicine, who has his own business that produces pharmaceutical drugs for hospitals.

The double degree scientist regularly has treatments from my TCM sibling.

Go figure.

Are we talking about WMDs again?

The War on Terror was a lie.

But the War on Germs is 100% legit, and anybody who questions it deserves to be called names.

You are with us or you are with the germs!

Again with the trolling s**t rather than just answering questions. You clearly believe Covid19 is a scam but have absolutely no evidence to support your position.

So incorrect. The number of corrections, clarifications and mistaken comms is unprecedented. Absolutely terrible comms. Minister speaks, Chief Health Officer contradicts, Premier tries to explain - absolute stuff up - dreadful. Not questioning the facts that Vic consistently went against the agreed national position - results so far speak for themselves, and hopefully continue this way. But the comms? Shockingly incompetent. Get the message right first time, unambiguous, clear - failed to do that almost every day. Yes these are unprecedented times but getting your messages right and consistent is basic PR.
To be fair these are pretty unprecedented and fluid times. I am no Dan Andrews fan but he does appear to be a good man in a crisis. I suspect the ministerial talent pool he has to work with is very shallow.

My Woof has dry biscuit for brekkie and slop for dinner with an occasional beast bone.

Its more about the advisors - they tend to write speeches, help create policy decisions etc. I suspect the unelected people around him have let him down. To have the Premier, Minister/s and Chief Health Officer giving differing explanations of the same policy beggars belief. Thats where it has fallen down.

Thankfully the actions seem to have slowed the spread - not Questioning the results. Just the PR from a professional perspective - dreadful.

I once saw him talk when he was the newly elected Leader of the Opposition many years ago and thought this guy knows what he is talking about it....and that was when they were down and out.

That is the burning issue with big pharma, they couldn't give two shits about cures, cures are bad for business, they prefer to treat symptoms. They aren't interested in anything they can't patent because India and China will just produce it cheaper. They definitely can't patent some ancient Chinese herbs, they would more likely try and discredit any type of research which would pose a threat to their symptom treating medication.

Everyone dropped SARS cure research like a hot potato the nanosecond there was no money in it and the market was poor people in third world countries. Same thing with AIDS, but we have this expensive s**t you can be on for the rest of your life.

I freaking knew it !! ..... it is the subject that keeps on giving.
I think Dank and Albert should be bought in for questioning.

I am a she. Not a he. Just for clarification.

Also, we do practice a great deal of Western medicine in our vet hospital. We're a small Integrative practice, with over 30 years experience in many different modalities. We use the ones that fit the patient's needs most closely at any given time. Like I said, it's good to have a variety of tools in your box, and an open mind.

We see many patients referred to us by specialists when their Western medicines stop working. They are open-minded enough too, to see us as a valuable resource to send their patients to when they are no longer able to help them within the spectrum of what they know.

All I ask is for people to be a little more open-minded, and try to let go of the idea that you have to have absolute black and white when it comes to medicine. That everything must be an ultimate known. That doesn't happen in any form of medicine, and isn't true of much in life either.

It's okay to be discerning. But it's not okay to be stubborn and abusive, or simply ridicule things that are foreign to you, or that you don't understand. That helps nothing.
