Why do you say that?
the loopholes they were proposing at closing, are using that negative on different asset classes, like having a negative on housing, offset by shares. That got shut down at the last election. So don’t get your hopes up.

The whole idea of UBI is to pay rents, utilities and to buy food.

I'm not seeing any macroeconomic shift here.

I'm not stupid enough to think journalists are worth listening to. Full of bias, pre-set narratives, click-bait, opinionated drivel...They are the primary propaganda machine of governments.

You'd be lucky to find a handful of useful ones left on the entire planet. You don't even need a degree these days to be a journalist - a twitter account is enough.

The only people that defend journalists are those like 7577969919 because their entire worldview is based on what journalists tell them to think, say and do. They make people feel too much, and think too little. Journalists lay out a buffet of lies. He can take a bite out of it but I refuse to.

The truth is out there. t's time to stand up and realise, that we should NOT allow ourselves to be crammed into this Covid19 rat maze. We should not SUBMIT to dehumanisation. I don't know about you, but I'm concerned with what's happening in this world. I'm concerned with the structure. I'm concerned with the systems of control. Those that control my life, and those that seek to control it EVEN MORE! I want FREEDOM! That's what I want, and that's what YOU should want! It's up to each and every one of us to turn loose of just some of the greed, the hatred, the envy, and yes, the insecurities, because that is the central mode of control, make us feel pathetic, small, so we'll willingly give up our sovereignty, our liberty, our destiny. We have GOT to realise we're being conditioned on a mass scale. Start challenging this corporate slave state! The 21st Century's gonna be a new century! Not the century of slavery, not the century of lies and issues of no significance, of classism and statism, and all the rest of the modes of control... it's gonna be the age of humankind, standing up for something PURE and something RIGHT! What a bunch of garbage - polititians: democrat, republican, liberal, labor...it's all there to control you, two sides of the same coin! Two management teams, bidding for control of the CEO job of Slavery Incorporated!

Resistance is NOT futile, we're gonna survive Covid19 and then we are going to bounce back, humankind is too good, WE'RE NOT A BUNCH OF UNDERACHIEVERS, WE'RE GONNA STAND UP, AND WE'RE GONNA BE HUMAN BEINGS! WE'RE GONNA GET FIRED UP ABOUT THE REAL THINGS, THE THINGS THAT MATTER - CREATIVITY, AND THE DYNAMIC HUMAN SPIRIT THAT REFUSES TO SUBMIT! Well that's it, that's all I've got to say. It's in your court now.

Well, that is a hilarious load of BS. You haven't got a clue what my world view is based on.

You claim to have unique insight and knowledge beyond the rest of us yet post such a bunch of garbage without a single fact in any sentence. If there are only a handful of decent journalists on the planet you will be happy to name them for us, to allow us to share in your edgy truth.

Anyway, back to the actual topic...

Total testing numbers are down. The percentage of positive tests is down a long way - well under 1%.

We will see a bit of a surge in the next week from the returning travellers but the community infections, apart from one or two exceptions, seem well under control.

So basically like the Australian dole system we have now?
People are thinking UBI is going to be some sort of utopian society. Big government going to help them all live in toorak.

It's time for clarification folks: It needs to get to 0 and stay at 0 for 14 days.

Only then can we assume that it is wiped out.

They're out of their minds.

It's a living supplement, but it will be greater than the dole because it would have a BIG chunk of votes attached to it.

Hahaha yep and like all western politics at the moment, all the promises in the world to get elected and where do you think the first cuts are going to be? it certainly wont be corporate welfare.

Who knows mate. You're delving in to the mysterious world of economics, where the laws of nature don't always apply.

The problem is, people, best intentions are always ruined by people.
If you give people more money, the more expensive everything will get, unless you want the government to jump in and regulate electricity, gas, water, internet, accommodation with it, it won’t work.
And if the government starts regulating that much, it’ll be a slippery slope.

The problem with the UBI is not the inflationary impact (which is doubtful) or the need for more regulation. It is the cost and economics of it in the first place. To be effective it would need to be a meaningful amount. $2k a month would cost approximately 30% of GDP. I think some people here are living in a fantasy land if they think that is ever going to happen.

Seems reasonable. Why can't Government come out and say something simple like that?

"If we get 14 days of zero community infections we can wind back domestic restrictions."

I assume it's because the typical 2020 person is a child.

If it gets rolled out, I don’t think it’ll matter we will be living under communism. And people will only realise it when family members are being dragged off to the gulag for being difficult.

I wouldn't go quite that far. As I understand it the argument for it from Andrew Yang and a few others in the US is that AI, automation, robotics etc are going to wipe out so many jobs and so concentrate wealth creation that a new model of wealth distribution will be needed to maintain a functioning society.

This is definitely worth philosophically unpacking.

Indeed, why do we constantly look for "blame"?

Have we invested so deeply in the bureaucratic nightmare that every single event must be the responsibility of someone in some government department, who we have accepted as having control over our lives? Did we really give away our autonomy without the slightest resistance?

The truly alarming thing for me, is that people want even MORE of this in their lives.

Sadly, the answer is “yes” and that has always been the case since people have been able to pay somebody else to do something they couldn’t be bothered doing themselves.

And even then we wouldn't be able to reopen interstate/international borders until everywhere else had those numbers also

Correctamundo.

14 days quarantine for anyone that wishes to step on to Australian soil, and a minimum of 3 days quarantine for any imported goods.

Of course, foreign bats and pangolins can completely GAGF!!!
