I think in the future we are going to one way or another lose much of our civil rights (or perceived civil rights as our constitution is ******* useless in granting them), such as privacy rights, etc. While the libertarian side of me thinks hell no, a lot of the issues stems from a lack of safeguards for human rights, distrust of government and what information can be used for.

In the general sense, none of us are of any real interest to our government, while we know the government spies on people all the time, they pretty much scan private information for anyone planning nefarious activities. The USA despite their extensive surveillance regime pulled the guy over who broke into the white house two months prior, who's car was filled with guns and ammo and a map which had the white house marked on it and none of their many arms of intelligence agencies spied on him, he was let go and he returned to the white house with 800 rounds of ammo in his vehicle. You would think that this person would be someone worth spying on, but they didn't.

I hate to break it to people, unless you are doing something nefarious, you aren't much interest to anyone in intelligence agencies or the government. People on this forum would give zero fu**s about anyone here if they followed a different team. You just aren't that interesting and your paranoia doesn't make it more so. If I could be tracked 24/7 I would tick that option because I am boring as batshit and them knowing where I was would eliminate being falsely implicated in something I didn't do. It would give me confidence that in the middle of a pandemic i can go to the shop because I knew there weren't a bunch of selfless campaigners like the dickhead who now has a criminal record for breaching quarantine to shag his girlfriend, like he couldn't whack off in a 5 star hotel for 2 weeks. A lot of truth to that, but the capability and technology to widely pry is quite scary for us average citizens. But as you said, there needs to be motivation. The biggest issue when it comes to intelligence is the politicisation of intelligence.

Everything in our lives is based on the lowest common denominator. Why is the speed limit 60 or even 40 in built up areas? If we got smart enough with technology, it would basically figure out who were the mouth breathers, if everyone is tracked they wouldn't even need speed limits on roads any longer. It would know over time how competent a driver you were, they would see where all the pedestrians are and when someone who just walks out in the middle of the road is in the vicinity it would give you that feedback so you knew there was a dickhead up ahead and you need to slow down to allow for their potential idiocy, like those dumb cows on country roads who don't give a ****.

Technology is limitless, it is mankind that is slowing down it's advancement. The more we know about everyone, the more we can go around the people slowing us down.

It is the same thing with this virus, if we knew everyone who was infected and they were tracked, even if they did something stupid, we could at least know who they came in contact with, who to isolate, which areas to clean. We could respond to individual issues without having to shut down the entire country.

Novavax has previously been responsible for early development efforts on vaccines for SARS and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), two other coronavirus epidemics.


"The urgent global race to develop a vaccine against the COVID-19 pandemic drove our rapid identification and selection of an optimal, highly immunogenic vaccine candidate," Novavax CEO Stanley Erck said.


"We are pleased that Nucleus, our long-time partner, was able to accommodate our accelerated timeline."

The theory behind this defense is to protect innocent people avoid being unjustly incriminated rather than make it harder for authorities to punish guilty people. If the government had eyes and ears everywhere, it would make this redundant.

Why should the police put up speed cameras or red light cameras on the assumption you might do something wrong? Technology has improved the government's ability to enforce laws. CCTV has already had a significant impact. If your glass is half empty you will think it is there to make it easier for you to be incriminated, if your glass is half full then it is there to protect you from being falsely incriminated, like a case in where a woman claimed someone followed her along a certain road and r*ped her only for the police to find no evidence of him on CCTV footage, she later confessed to making up the rape accusation.

I know I will never knowingly break any laws so I am happy with the camera being on me 24/7, it will do nothing other than protect my innocence. If I do break a law, I should pay the price. It is my hope that with guilty being more easily found guilty that we move our laws from a system primarily of punishment to one of primarily rehabilitation. Also, if the police didn't need to expend the resources that they did to enforce laws they could be used in ore proactive activities like community development.

Most people who are against surveillance tend to be paranoid, have done something wrong or fear the repercussion of potentially doing something wrong or just generally do not trust the government or their ability to keep information secure or private. Their line of argument tends to focus on what their particular issue is. I worry about government security, it is my main issue, however, I can see it getting us to a point where we hopefully can heavily reduce the amount of crimes being committed and help us in other ways in the future.

I'm all for bio microchipping in the future when that eventually is developed, if your general health could be monitored then not only would we save numerous preventable deaths, we could get people treatment before they suffer irreversible damage. About half our social security budget is spent on the elderly, the sick and the disabled, and hopefully one day it will be able to help us detect who comes down with what, including pandemic viruses, it would radically improve society for the better. Ignorance has kept us locked up in our homes like it is the dark ages.
