That wouldnt be as bad if only poor pensioners are getting the payouts. They are not. All of the pensioners are getting it. those payouts should be going to casual workers who are unexpectedly going to find a large share of their incomes are gone with kids to feed and rent/mortgages to pay. these people are the ones who deserve it.

Its weird that a so called lefty is taking the position you are. the labour unions would be furious with your view.
Your argument is too binary. I agree with the casual worker aspect 100%. I also think the poorer newstart + pensioners should get it.

This

I also think the reason casuals haven't been named is the govt is working to stop business offloading them full stop. Problem is how to do it when the whole scope is still being figured out (they are most impacted by the 500 shutdown)

The Australian response to Coronavirus will surely be looked back in history with disdain.
Next time a pandemic looks a remote possibility we will lockdown much earlier.
We are making the same mistakes the asian countries did with sars - you will notice they swung very quickly into action this time.

Any idiot can learn from his own mistakes - a wise man learns from someone elses.

<<<<I’m an intensive care specialist in a small city.

Coronavirus isn’t just like the flu, but it’s only really very dangerous to the elderly or the already unwell. Quite a lot of people in their 80s will die, but most of the rest of us will probably be okay.

If you’re in your 70s and you get Coronavirus, you’ve got a really good chance of survival. If I’ve got a bed for you.

If you’re in your 60s and you have a heart attack, you’ve got a really good chance of survival. If I’ve got a bed for you.

If you’re in your 50s and need bowel cancer surgery, you’ve got a really good chance of survival. If I’ve got a bed for you.

If you’re in your 40s and have a bad car accident, you’ve got a really good chance of survival. If I’ve got a bed for you.

If you’re in your 30s and have terrible pre-eclampsia as a complication of pregnancy, you’ve got a really good chance of survival. If I’ve got a bed for you.

If you’re in your 20s and have a bad reaction to a party drug, you’ve got a really good chance of survival. If I’ve got a bed for you.

I have 7 beds equipped with life support machines. We have a plan to increase to about 25. Getting more isn’t a matter or more equipment or more money, that bit is easy. There are not enough skilled staff, even if we all work double shifts every day for six months (and we probably will).

If 50% of my city gets infected, that’s 75,000 people. If 5% of them need life support (which is the estimate), that’s 3750 people. For 25 beds.

And then I might not have a bed for you.

So it’s up to you to flatten the curve. Wash your hands. Stay home.>>>>

I think america is going to be absolutely smashed by covid.

Turnip has told his maga waggers that its nothing to worry about and they believe him.

At this stage western australia is doing over 1000 tests a day.

The us has done a total of around 11000.

In a population more than 200 times west australias size.

I wonder if this is the straw that breaks the camels back politically in the us?

I wonder if the American’s will make those without health care pay for testing?

anyways, my tests were negative which is a relief to me. What I am going to say is this, the government has no clear message for those returning from OS. The website only lists 5 countries that are of concern, I had/have symptoms and returning from other countries yet the government has no advice, but when you ring the hotline it states two of those countries I returned from as being a reason to self isolate.

I was confused when I landed and even more so when I jumped on the health dpt website..They have no idea wtf they’re doing and the Chief Medical Officer is sending mixed messages. Just ridiculous.

This is what happens when you spend the best part of a decade cutting government services only to discover all of a sudden that you do actually need them.

So you're happy to keep fat, bloated departments / bureaucracies just in case we need some extra people in 10 or 20 years time?

Like the bushfires, if it seems these sorts of events are going to become more regular then yes, expand the departments.

Never fear, the private sector will save us.

Look at these fat bloated ****ers sitting on their arses all day, every day. Up and down the country, aircraft passengers paying through the nose for hundreds of dudes/dudettes to eat, saunter over to the gym, eat, wander outside to wash the truck, eat, saunter back into the gym, eat, spray some foam on a burning oil drum for fun, eat, and sleep.

Why the hell are they there? When was the last time an airliner crashed'n'burned here? Huh?

Get rid of them and transfer the airport coverage to the local volunteer brigade, I say.

Let’s see what happens with America and how they go with the medical side of things with these worrying times.

What Government funding do they receive?

4 million air movements carrying 160, 000, 000 passengers per year in airspace that we control.

Which has a higher probability of happening, the firies will unfortunately be needed or us having our current situation with the CoronaVirus? I'm over 50 and I can't ever remember a reaction like this to any virus outbreak, so at this stage I'd call it a 1 in 50 year event.

Comprehension fail

Still twice as frequent as a 1 in 100 year event of an airliner crash at a major Australian airport, which has yet to happen even once.

It wasn't comprehension fail, I read it just fine when you posted it. Airline passengers pay for the insurance of having ff capabilities at airports, a sort of a voluntary tax if you choose to fly as opposed to 1,000s of people sitting around for decades on the taxpayers teat, just in case there's a virus.

<puts on hhh hat>
Like the tens of thousands of armed forces people sitting around for decades on the taxpayers teat, just in case there's an invasion.
<removes hhh hat>

Whoa, coming up with stupid arguments is easier than I thought. Thanks for the tip.

They certainly helped us out during the 2011 Brisbane floods. Those pumps can move quite a bit of water.

2 of the 4 person team that I work in live overseas, one is currently on with me now, he lives in Thailand and is married to a Thai lady and the other lives in New Zealand with her partner, he also works here.

The one that lives in Thailand now has to make a decision. He has another 9 days on swing, if he flies home to his wife, he can come back, but he will have to self isolate, I assume with his elderly mother who will be in the most at risk of dying category if she were to contract it, and self isolating for 2 weeks doesn't work with his 2 week on, 1 week off roster. He might have to ask the company if he can do a job share role, 2 weeks on and 4 weeks off. He can fly home to
Thailand for 2, fly back and self-isolate at hims mum's for 2 and then come up to work for 2.

The Kiwi couple are on job share, 2 weeks on and 4 weeks off which would mean to continue working they would need to fly home to NZ, self-isolate for 2 weeks, fly back to Australia, self-isolate for 2 weeks (very expensive staying in a hotel or the like continually for 2 week blocks) and then fly up and work for 2 weeks.

Bad times ahead for them I fear.

Apparently the term "Boomer remover" is cruel because "the last thing the elderly need right now is to be reminded of how prone they are to dying from the virus"

What the **** did they think seilling the entire Eastern suburbs of our city to mainlaind Chinese investors was? Philanthropy? All the best schools, transport, infrastructure sold to the next overseas generation. I hope millenials don't let boomers stop them traveling overseas in these extremely affordable times.

Or you have the usual government departments filled with insufficient over paid fat cats

They bag her for thinking she is some self
Important horse face lecturing the world, yet at the same time she has near destroyed her own country! Economically, industry and affordability!

she is an arse clown

sounds like the government will now do a fiscal package following my recommendations and help people who are actually being impacted by the virus economically rather then waste money on people are the least affected economically.
