Health Cortisone injections?

Hi, I've been told today that my shoulder is not healing & none of the exercises I'm doing are helping it improve. It's now at a point where I'll struggle to lift a litre of milk with a straight arm out in front of me.

Anyway, advised one option is to get a cortisone injection in the shoulder. Heard it's exxy & may have ramifications down the track? Wanted to see if any here have experience with them? Cheers

Have you seen a good sports medicine specialist?

Know of two cases where the recommended course of action differed.

A tennis playing neighbour couldn't lift his arm above his shoulder without pain. He was assessed as someone who would benefit from an injection and in his case it's been very successful. Had it 8 months ago and has been playing tennis since with no side effects.

In the second case, a friend couldn't raise her arm above her shoulder full stop. It was suggested to her that cortisone would be of no help and she ultimately had surgery.

So first stop is a good sports medicine specialist. They went to Dr Tim Wood. Haven't seen him myself so it's second hand info but thought it might help.

Had bursitis in my shoulder and months after physio and anti-inflams there was little to no improvement. I had a cortisone injection and that night it killed like buggery every time on rolled over on it. After a couple of days the pain went and didn't come back till 6 months later. One more shot and it lasted 12 months. After a 3rd course (touch wood) it's never recurred.
