I can bet you all the tea in China, the umpires would have not let our players get away with those tactics employed by MacGaffer.

no effing way. if it was Kingy doing that to Pendlebury the Pie ferals would have been throwing their false teeth at him and spitting into their handsets after the game on talk back radio.

This is exactly what will happen if this tactic by any team is allowed to continue the level of off the ball stuff will escalate. I would think it's the last thing the afl would want to see (but I'm only guessing). I'll certainly be watching to see how it will be dealt with...It's an important issue that if allowed to continue will only lead to real violence onfield as teams try to deal with "tagging" of this type...

I wonder what would happen if someone got reported for roughing up a tagger, and stated "Well, if the umps wont protect players, we need to". The player would probably cop it from the AFL (for bringing the game into disrepute AKA telling the truth), but you could bet the umps would be tougher on taggers afterwards.

What happened to the rule changes and the protected zone? Bloody hate this game now.
Stupid interchange cap.
Hardly ever is there a holding the ball call.

Richmond need to get the Richmond back.
Tough, stick up for your team mate and kill the opposition.
Northey made the players fight and he had an average list.
He nearly got them to a grand final with an average list.

I'm not bagging Dimma either.
He has fire in the belly for success.
Just watch him in the coaches box and you can see what it means to him.
I see a fragmated side at the moment .

The umpires got it wrong and macaffer got away with murder on the night. I've just seen some of the vision, and it is blatant cheating. On the night, it did not look that bad (live at the ground). In one instance, macaffer held Cotchin by the jumper preventing him from intercepting a low pass which he would have intercepted. This was in full view of the umpire, but he did nothing. So even though macaffer is effectively cheating, the umpires did nothing about it, so they are to blame more then macaffer. Holding, is holding - you simply cannot do it while your opponent does not have the ball.

These negative players like macaffer and crowley are a disgrace to the game. Fringe players at best, who's "role" in the team is to negate a gun player. Not good enough with their lack of ability, they are relegated to cheat. I think it would send a message to Buckley and Lyon if these negative players were fairly dealt with in accordance with the rules. Next time we play collingwood, we either do the same thing to Pendlebury (and watch Eddie's media agenda the following week), or deal with macaffer "within the rules".

Why can't we have a system a bit like they do in soccer, where if you commit two bad or deliberate fouls in a game you get a red card? Being a man down for the rest of the game would soon put an end to this sort of systematic cheating.
