Cotchin is going to be one of the best midfielders in the league IMO but I think Dangerfield is capable of being like a Hird, Voss, Roo, Buckley in that he will be one of the best midfielders in the comp who can also go forward when necessary and win games off his own boot.

Agree with this.

I'd take Dangerfield at this point.

I went with Cotchin.

He is a very smooth mover and as skillful as they come. Both have their injury troubles but that aside I think Cotchin will be the better player.

Dangerfield purely as we haven't seen Cotchin really take any games apart yet.

But with a full preseason Cotchin could definitely prove he was worthy of his pick.

Cotchin by a mile. It's not even close.

Dangerfield has been flattered by a good start due to a pretty strong body.

When Cotchin's body gets there, he'll be streets ahead of Dangerfield.

Cotchin is more of a surefire success, but Dangerfield has more potential. Cotchin will definitely be an A-grade player IMO, but Dangerfield could be anything between a spud and a Voss/Buckley/Hird/Judd type depending on how he develops his football brain to match his incredible physical attributes.

Dangerfield by a bee's ****

He will have to play smarter though to be a long term gun

Cotchin is probably the more reliable, you know he'll always perform, like a good pro porn star ... ;)

^This^ for all the hype of cotchin he hasn't taken apart enough or any games yet. Yes there is a reason for this injuries but atm i'm sick of top 10 picks that haven't shown much and getting hype to extreme levels. By no means is this to take away from dangerfield though good player IMO at his best might become a top 30 player in the league but no more than that(Which is a every good effort).

Anyway this is the fourth year for both players imo cotchin really needs to get a good run with injuries or it could really hurt his develop perfecet example gumby for us.

This is Cotchs first full pre season and by all accounts he's in the best shape ever. It will be very interesting to watch him able run games out with a more competitive body.
Also I don't know about Dangerfield, but Cotch has captain written all over him, he leads on and off the field and is sure to take up the no.17 when Newman stands down.

Which games has Dangerfield taken apart?

He's had 20 touches just 3 times in his 42 games. He's had a game of 5 goals and one where he kicked 4. He's received fewer brownlow votes too.

Edit:20 not 30

20 touches I assume you mean. He's not a huge possesion getter, that's probably to be expected when he has spent most of his time as a marking forward. Those 5 goals were all in a half of football, I don't know how much more impressive you want these 20 year olds to be.

I think that Cotchin will be more consistent game winner, more likely to win a brownlow and probably be a better player if he starts to get a better run with injuries. Dangerfield will be more exciting and more likely to have a ten minute purple patch that can change a game.

Cotchin is so smooth, the way he moves through traffic. He always looks like he knows exactly what he is doing whenever he has the football, and has the footskills to back it up.

Dangerfield is a freak combination of strength, pace, manic intensity and a great ability to take contested marks. His footskills do let him down though. Kicking for goal is fine but when he gets it in general play he tends to just boot it as long as he can. He doesn't have the finesse of Cotchin.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I just think it's a bit misinformed when someone states that one tends to rip games apart and the other doesn't when both have only really "dominated" a handful of games at most.

Cotchin has never really had a 'wow' patch like Dangerfield has, but he has been pretty dominant on occasion. For example, in the last game of 2010, he had 22 touches, 9 tackles, 2 goals, 7 clearances, 5 inside 50s, whilst being tagged by Kornes.

I reckon we should ease on these Cotchin v everyone threads.

We know both sides of the story.

Opposition supporters: He's overated blah blah blah has done nothing to warrant the hype.

Richmond supporters: Hasn't had a full preseason, wait and see what he can do once he's had one.

Why not let it rest til one of us is proven right, or atleast there's a better indication?
Revisit mid year.

(ps Tigers supporters will be proven right... watch the cotch 2011 :p)

Careers to date, Dangerfield is ahead.
I voted cotchin based on potential future output.

Must say I do enjoy watching Dangerfield, was at the Bulldogs/Crows game at Etihad last year and that play where he ran with ball down the wing about 100+ meters, weaved through several opponents into the forward line and kicked a goal 30 meters out was sublime.

I think Cotchin will end up the better player. I just love watching Danger though. That guy is fearless and often makes me laugh. Could also be anything so I'd stick with him in Crows colours.
