Cotchin today

I think Cotchin would have gone number one ahead of Murphy in 2005 if he was available

Though I wouldn't trade Gibbs for Cotchin. :)

Interesting, from this you are rating Gibbs higher than Murphy. I thought it would have been the other way around.

Thought he was one of the shining lights for you guys today. Brilliant young player. Will end up one of the top 5 mids in the comp. I saw a bit of him as a junior so know how good he is but wow he was impressive today.

Despite having less possesion I thought he was more damaging today then he was against the crows. His best game at AFL level in my opinion.

On a side note I hope all those posters who have been critising Bryce Gibbs without actually watching him properly took a good look at him today. Was one of the best players on the ground.

Cotchin will be an exceptional player. I'm happy to admit I was a little dubious on him where we drafted him (ahead of Morton basically) and that he's 100% proved me wrong so far. Of course, I didn't have the advantage of knowing we'd trade a 2nd round pick for McMahon to address the massive problems across half-back which I felt Morton would have covered, but still, Cotchin has qualities I honestly didn't see prior to draft day.

It's not the both sides of the body quality disposal or the poise (both of which I did know he had), it's the strength through the hips, the balance, and the ability to hold his position on the ball which has me extremely excited. For a kid who has almost no AFL level strength development behind him, these qualities are already developed beyond belief.

Dare I say it, reminiscent of G Ablett, but arguably a couple of years ahead on the time it took Ablett to get to where he is.

Gibbs was good today, but to be honest, I'm far from sold on him being a champion player and today did little to change that. A lot of the possessions he got were from our errors, not him winning his own football.

I thought he was overrated as a junior and while I'm 100% convinced he'll always be a very handy player for the Blues, I don't see him as a gamebreaker or a top-10 league midfielder.

Of course, there's no shame in that.

Cotchin will be very very good, will be better than Kruzey.

Must say, would still take Junior over him, just.
Like hell you would.

You should have. We traded the pick well before the draft. Besides, HBF is hardly a specialist position. Good sides put their excess midfielders there, a la Milburn and Enright at Geelong.

well i think i am missing something because you two ******s arent making a lick of sense

all of this bagging each other makes no sense either
whats the point?

The General is saying that your judgement is clouded - and Coughlan is saying the same back to him.

We can't all see eye to eye - and be happy families all of the time.

Some trolls just need a good old slashing from a straight to the point poster such as cogs.

He looks like he's been to the Matt Giteau school of footwork. Incredible.

Can he break dance?

He's like a swiss army knife - he does everything. Inside and outside with quality.

From what I have seen, I would take him #1 every time. You guys have got a steal. And it's about time. A player I'll specifically go to watch for many years to come. :thumbsu:

awesome talent definately the best taken in last years draft so far. To think of what our midfield would have been like if we had taken him :(

Its not hard to shine when you are surrounded by s**t. No offense, but Richmond were very poor today.

what a $%$!@ stupid comment, how does his efforts in evading thru heavy traffic and winning plenty of pill in his 5th game have anything at all to do with the performance of his teammates...so there is an inverse relationship, the crapper his teammates play the better a youngster goes. Bring your brain along next time you wish to post around here, an insult to ordinary folks intelligence:eek:

Interesting, from this you are rating Gibbs higher than Murphy. I thought it would have been the other way around.

I daresay a significant portion of Carlton supporters (might even be approaching a majority) rate Gibbs as having higher upside than Murphy, myself included. Murphy will be a gun - pretty safe bet, but Gibbs has the potential to be elite.

And Gibbs work in close is very underrated by opposition supporters - his ability to create space when there is none is one of his most endearing qualities.

As for Cotchin, extremely impressive kid. His skills are absolutely sublime and has a heap of class and poise. Richmond have a very special player in Cotchin. :thumbsu:

Cotchin will be a star however Kreuzer i think will be more important to our team, than another small/med midfielder.

Who would you prefer Abblett/judd or Franklin/Cox? I am not saying that they will be as good as these players but just saying whats more important a Top Tall or a Top Small?

Top talls obviously.

But with a bunch of reasonable talls already, a classy midfielder is what we needed.

Based on what we've seen, Cotchin looks very good already.

He looks better than good. He looks like he could be Elite.

You'd take the top tall everytime.

But in this case I believe we are talking about a top small and ana lmost top tall.

Cotchin will be better than a margin that outweighs the tall vs small argument.

However with Carlton's list, they simply could not afford to pass the chance at getting a very good tall in favour of yet another potential elite small.

I'd prefer 2 potential elite smalls + 1 very good tall then 3 potential elite smalls :thumbsu:

Talls are overrated. Midfielders make forwards/defenders good or bad. If the midfield is shit then a forward can't kick goals and the defenders will find it harder to defend.

Why do you think we went with Deledio/Tambling instead of Roughead/Franklin? We were in desperate need of midfielders.

I watched the 1st qrt this morning if that doesnt give every Richmond fan a chubby then you are officially dead. The block and receive from Richo was sublime.

When Foley handballed over his head and Cotchin ran at it doing a blind turn as he gathered the ball then broke through traffic brought tears to my eyes. The commentaters just moaned in amazement as he moves.

I remember watching Deledio in his first year do some nice tricks and run like the wind but Cotchin is a "A" class top shelf player who will be very special for us. Deledio, Foley and Cotchin are going to dominate games in the coming years.
