Once again if he's playing there's no excuses.

There's actually nothing wrong, cotchin is playing like his normal self. It's just that there are half a dozen or more players that have increased the quality and involvement of there football which has less reliance on cotch lids. We are a team playing like a team.

NO EXCUSES

When he starts dominating again, will you admit this point of view is incorrect? :D

Sorry, Nobull, with all due respect to a good poster - I think thats a bit of a backwards, "hard-men in the footy shed" type philosophy. Cotch doesnt have a beer after the game either,, so I guess he's not a 'real man', right?

Plenty of players play hurt/injured (for a very close to home example, King for a lot of last year)... of course you make allowances for their performance. The only questions the selectors need to consider is, a) is the hurt player going to get more injured if he keeps playing b) is the player who is playing hurt, still better at his reduced capacity than the next best alternative.. I guess Cotch is passing those two questions for the moment.

I believe he's injured becasue simply being tagged alone doesnt stop you being able to run fast or throw your self into the bottom of packs or get to contests etc. Man on Man he's fine, but he's completely lost pace and the ability to weave through traffic: thats something going on in the legs..

I was really concerned about Cotchin against the bulldogs, even moreso than I have been in past weeks:

- He looked skinny, as if he had lost some muscle mass
- He looked pale, maybe he has been sick?
- His face looked like someone almost lost, perhaps even intimidated suddenly, kinda like Harry Taylor's face in the '08 Grand Final, that face has stuck with me, he looked almost scared/not there that day and Cotch had a very distant look to him against the Bulldogs, after he kicked that goal late, it took Conca to rough him up to get a smile from him
- He was very slow and always labouring in the background of most shots on TV, either from lack of stamina due to injury or illness, maybe from something mental like lack of motivation...
- When running, he looked clumsy, like his feet were intertwining and he was gonna trip himself over at times

I'm living in Japan still, my American friend whom I made here has been taking an interest in watching it with me since last year, and he looks at Cotchin and says something isn't right. Especially considering the freak we had in him last year.

Something is up with Cotch, hoping it's just temporary. Could be illness. Could be the body. Could be mental. Could be a combination.

Did you guys notice any of those things against the Bulldogs?

The guy has a lot of commitments in being the captain of such a massive club.
It's half way into his first season on the job, I think we can cut him a bit of slack as he may need time to settle in and get used to being an AFL captain.

In saying this, he hasn't been 100% since his knee injury against the Dockers, prior to which he was averaging approximately 30 disposals a match.

And that my friends, is my 1000th post.

He has bruised bone around the knee , he never hyper extended it .
It has been stated many times including last night by Richo .
It is unlikely playing will further hinder it and it will rectify in time regardless of playing or not .
Hyper extension is an action not an injury. He did hyper extend it and as a result bruised his knee.

I am well aware of what hyper extension is and the damage which is caused by hyper extension of the knee, like Flea have had my share of knee injuries.
If after he had a MRI it was deemed he didn't hyper extend his knee, who am I to speculate on what I saw ?

I hyper extended my knee playing football and i had troubles for months. nothing that stopped me from playing but running certain ways and perticular movment caused be disscomfort, when your an elite player trying to perform at your peak it would definitely cause you problems and i would say for alot longer than a week or two, it has nothing to do with toughness!

I'd agree with the posters here in saying that Cotchin has not recovered from the Freo clash back in April.

That said, he is still battling gallantly and bleeding y&b every time he gains possession. A classic example of this was the goal he snagged harassing the Bulldogs player in the forward pocket. For someone who is injured, his effort was remarkable!

I wouldn't be stressing too much over his knee at present because he has a unbelievable amount of support from his fellow onballers at the minute!

It's a bit concerning for sure but I think overall, its ultimately better for us to have solid contributions from across the team than relying on a few players having big games to get us over the line.

He's probably a bit sore but I'd say maybe he is more focused on the leadership aspects of being the captain than his own personal game. He's still young and will grow and mature further (scary thought!). No real big worry for me just yet.

Also guys lets not forget a important point. He is still very young in his development. It is easy to forget that as he is such a freak it seems he has been playing for us for 10 years. This year he might be developing another side to his game that he is struggling at the moment to adept too. He might be under coaching instructions to modify his game a certain way to help the over all team, who knows ?

Personally I think its a little bit of a change in game instructed to by the coaching group for the overall benefit of the team.

He just got engaged/married? that's a huge life change and he may be adapting to that as well.

He also might be recovering from a injury/cold etc

IMO I think its a bit of all three

Cotchin, 23, has led impressively in his first season as skipper. He also dispelled fears about a nagging knee injury that sidelined him in round seven.

Asked if he was still sore, Cotchin said: "Not at all. Everyone keeps asking me, so I must be playing a little bit below standard.

As I said!!!!

Buh bow!!!

Do you honestly think that if Cotchin is carrying an injury that he is going to come out and state it to the media? If you do you're deluded if not then I'm not sure what you're patting yourself in the back for.

This is how it really is

Cotchin is back to normal, great effort but he's never had great disposal efficiency.

The players around him have picked up 100% and there is a lot less reliability on him and lids so it looks like he's out of form.

Cotch is still playing like cotch.

If his "bruise" really affects him that much, why play him. why not have him as sub until he's "100%"

Does anyone else see the irony in having a name which includes Nobull when, well......

It's ok people, no need to keep arguing a losing battle when the man has backed me up a being right.

If I was wrong I'd cop it on the chin, admit I was wrong an move on. would be good to see if you could all do the same.
