Could you clear this up, I remember hearing something about GC having rights to a player from every club, the way it is explained above doesn't sound accurate though.

GC can sign an uncontracted player from every club (provided the players agree, that is), but the compensation pick can go anywhere from the start of the first round to the end of the third. You may get shafted a little by it (the compensation is decided by the AFL and they won't tell us how the formula works) but you're not going to end up with a second round pick for somebody who went pick 2 only a few years before.

Who would give us pick 2 for a broken down "potential star"? They would be better to target someone like Rich who has shown he can perform and will be out of contract at the end of next season.

I would be more concerned with retaining Nahas, Vickery or Riewoldt than Cotchin.
...and with this gem, you've just mounted a serious late challenge for the Richmond BF "Twat of the Year" award. Well done champ!:thumbsu:

Thanks Spluff. I'm fairly confident Trent will stay judging by his comments since being drafted, but you just never know considering the coin they will be throwing around.

They'll be targetting him but in all honesty Cotchin is no superstar, he is still a young kid with a lot of potential, can't see GC chasing him at all.

You obviously know alot about football. Here's a quote from one of your (soon to be) ex superstars....as he kisses Ryan O'Keefe on the forehead, hips swirling.."oooooh i got a stiffy!". I think you should worry about your own list before judging others. Oooooh i got a stiffy just writing that:D

You can be honest, after reading some of your posts, you're a troll aren't you?

If we can't afford to pay cotch more than the gold coast would we must be seriously overpaying some absolute duds. We only have about 15 players worthy of more than 200,000 a year
McMahon is taking a fair chunk of the salary cap up.

I could also be wrong but aren't draftees given a two year contract and Cotchin is heading into his third year so stands to reason that we have given him a new contract at some point.

I wouldn't be too worried guys.
I suggest you pick up a copy of Emma Quayle's book The Draft, and pay particular notice of when the Judd trade went through, and then West Coast had #3, and were looking very hard at Trent. He didn't want to leave Melbourne, and was hoping that either Carlton or Richmond would pick him up.
Exactly mate, good post :thumbsu:

Amazing how so many people on this board over-rate our players and convince themselves of granduer:o. Cotchin has potential but has yet to display it. Serious doubts over his archillies injury and how that will affect his career in the long term. In comparisson to others like Nahas, Collins, Riewoldt etc they are producing the goods and more likely to be on other clubs radars than unproven "potential stars". Oh........ JON was highly rated too wasn't he?:o

Well now you've managed to top even your own stupidity...Cotchin & JON in the same sentence...**** me...have a good lie down mate...:o

Oh don't be so sure Nahas is a long-term AFL level player...particularly if a) loses any pace, b) doesn't gain any strength and c) doesn't improve his appalling conversion rate...

Cotch has played 25 games to Collins' 10. Vickery has managed about 10 also.

Cotch's worst game was better than Vickery's best game. Cotch has proved a lot more than any of those guys you mentioned. Even Jack.

In the 15 extra games he has played. He came 3rd in the rising star yet Collins is yet to get a nomination. Vickery averages 8.7 touches a game. Cotch's worst effort is 9. If you think Collins or Vickery have proven more than Cotchin you have NFI. I'd even go as far to say he's proven more than Jack "1 good game a month" Riewoldt and Robin "1 goal a game" Nahas.

Would be a considerable loss to our future, hopefully he bleeds yellow and black like most of us and stays true to the club!

Cotchin will be targeted but he will remain a Tiger.
If he lives up to potential and remains injury free in 2010. His next contract will be large and we can easily accomodate it.
He is a future leadder of the club.
