My parents had no interest in footy, but our neighbour was a mad doggies supporter, so from about 8 years old he took me to the Western Oval to watch Footscray. So when l was growing up l saw more Footscray matches than Richmond. We stood at the Rising Sun Hotel (Geelong Rd) end and went to Poons for tea. Even when l was older l would go to the Western Oval with Footscray supporting mates and watch the doggies and Rick Kennedy was one of my favourites. He had that weird lump on his quad. Hard as fukc. I heard Tony Lockett say once that Rick Kennedy was the only footballer that genuinely worried him because he knew he was mad.Not kidding
