Poor old Trent has pulled up sore again in the achilles but it is KGB.

The official line is FLU but the bad news is he still isn't right and isn't likely to be till after the bye.

Can you believe this?

Another player brilliantly managed by the medical staff.

Our injury list is probably the shortest in the league so they must be doing something right.

Unfortunately it's our better players who are the few injured though. :(

Dunno about that. Off the top of my head, so far this season we've had these players injured: Johnson, Cousins, Richo, Pattison, Raines, Cotchin, Connors, Hughes, Brown, Coughlan. Not including Pettifer from last season and Polak (tram).

Also under a cloud: Simmonds, Foley.

There are probably others I've forgotten. Not necessarily pointing the finger at the medicos, and other teams (eg Hawthorn) have had a bad trot too, but there may be 2 or 3 or more there that have come about more thru poor management than bad luck.

:DFind it funny how we can manipulate or spin things on here.

The injury list can include guys like Johnson, who most agree is past it and don't want him in the team.

Ditto for Pettifer.

And most would agree Hughes is a waste of space and a good percentage of people were calling for Brown never to return to the senior line-up a few weeks ago!!!

To true Goldy.... But why would we want th let the truth/facts get in the way of a good story???

nothing would surpirse considering the curse that inevitably overcomes anyone any good at Punt rd...Not sure medics could be blamed in this kids case...**** if we went any slower with him he'd be going backwards...I hope he's ok:thumbsu:

I too am frustrated about how long it is taking to get Cotch back onto the park Bo & also considering how some others from last years strong draft have consolidated themselves as key performers.

Some solace though... Cotch is significantly younger than all of them.

Rioli - already an excellent key player for the Hawks but is 9 months older than Cotch.
Palmer - very very good last year, (sad about his injury) but is a full 14 months older than Cotch.
Kreuzer - playing a leading role now at Carlton sure but is almost 1 year (11 months) older than Cotch.

As much as I am one of the worlds most impatient bastards, at least with Trent he has time on his side...

Indeed he does have time on his side and even it takes all season to get him right we should do that. One I'm worried about is Deledio, Gibbs has been better than him in the first 6 rounds this year and Lids is 2 years older. Has much more hurt factor than Gibbs but has to use it more. It's a cliche but he does have all the talent in the world and would hate for him to just coast along.

would put my money on the snag. he is usually right.

oh absolutely he was spot on about JON last week...
and he isnt likely to just bitch about something his made up in his head.....
poor trent must be finished ...................
"The Snag" never bitches without reason.........................................

That's not what I mean at all. Players get injuries, it's a risk they take, but as far as it goes we don't have a rising injury list like Essendon or Hawthorn.

Some of it is probably pure luck but there has to also be good management in there so players can back up every week and the injury toll stays low. Unfortunately they seem to have flopped on the 2 most high profile players.

*Three. But who cares in the short term if Cotch misses another game or two. We've got him for 12 years. It's been explained that his leg tendons are behind the rest of his body in development. Luke Hodge's first three years were hampered by injury and it hasn't done him or the Hawks any long term harm. Cotchin will be a multiple B&F winner at Richmond.

I don't count Cotch as being a flop that has anything at all to do with the medical staff.

It was the opposite achilles than was previously the problem, he trained too hard early on, who knows, it may have happened later during pre-season training if it didn't effect him earlier.

Achilles are not something easily managed and it's not a slight on the medical staff that Cotch is struggling with such a complex problem.

I also doubt the Snag's sauce, but what's new.

If this is the case our football department should have a good hard look at themselves because as a whole the players getting injuried this season as been due to poor management. We need a cleanup in the footy Department bigtime and we should be chaseing Balme hard so he can restructure it the way he did with the cats and pies.

It's called Richpolar.
We all suffer from it.

Understand that, but the point I was making was that a short injury list right now doesn't necessarily indicate good injury management this season. In fact, it appears that the management of our oldest and most fragile players (Cousins, Richo, Brown) has been poor. I think you have to look deeper than the injury list at a given point in time.

Mind you, I don't necessarily blame the docs or conditioning staff. Strange things happen when a coach is in the last year of a 5 year contract.

In fairness to the medicos and coaching staff etc, noone knows the players body like the player himself, and if a 30 year old man says he is ok then the onus is well and truely back on him. Cousins, Richo, Brown are old enough and been around long enough to know if they are ok to play or not. I am pushing 30 and my club leaves the decision ultimately with me everytime and so they should.

With younger players it should be more of a case of holding them back a bit but ultimately they should know if they right or not.

Regarding Cotch though, noone could foresee this happening with him, how could they possibly know he has the tendons of a 12 year old girl but the physique of a greek god??????????????
