I note Snoop is a big wrap on Logan Austin from NSW/ACT, particularly his size, athleticism and the fact that he can 'kick it a mile'; can you tell me anything about him? Is he more of a KPF or KPD?

Logan Austin
Beconnen, 195cm, 85kg, 8/7/95
"A versatile utility who can play back, forward or through the midfield. Logan has developed well over the last 24-36 months, and looks a really good prospect for his size. The fact he can switch between all three spots makes him a rare commodity with his athleticism."

Hard to get a read because he is constantly switching positions. But I think he is more of a forward who won't kick bags of goals but get his one or two most games and get a fair bit of the ball. Won't ever be that big strong KPF. Think Marco Paparone who the Lions picked up last year. :thumbsu:

As a Melbourne fan, whilst I do recognize the fact that our midfield is easily the worst in the competition and we really should address it with Pick 2/3/4 or whatever we end up with, I think there is an outside chance we might go with Boyd if he is available.

At the moment, our KPF stocks are pretty healthy; Clark, Dawes, Hogan and a plethora of young aspiring Ruck/Forwards (Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Pedersen etc)

However, one logical reason I believe we should go for Boyd is that we have no one ready and able to fill in for the aging Jamar. Drafting another genuine gorilla up forward can perhaps release Clark into the ruck, the position where he was shortlisted as AA back when he was at Brisbane.

So yeah, if we finish as low as many are predicting, we will still have a pretty decent second round pick to use on a midfielder.

2014-2015

R: Jamar
KPF: Clark, Dawes, Hogan

2016 and beyond

R: Clark
KPF: Dawes, Hogan, Boyd

Fitzpatrick should be the Forward who takes the ruck role at all stoppages in the forward 50

Clark should never be involved in the Ruck

We for once have the luxury of having some good prospects regarding our forward line and while Boyd would be nice i really think our midfield is our first, second and third priority in this draft

Of all the 18 clubs The Bulldogs IMO would be the club that would benefit drafting Boyd the most

Behind closed doors The Bulldogs would be crazy not to have some discussions with GWS and Melbourne to make that happen in a WIN for all situation

Remember also that Jack Hannath was going to be a Demon until Fremantle picked him up

Therefore a Ruckman is on our want list and this draft has a few although not very high in the pecking order

Dogs wouldn't need to deal with Melbourne.
According to Jake Niall today the Dogs are already in talks with GWS re. Boyd

I am a fan of how you have rated Templeton and Kade Kolodjashnij. I think Templeton in particular will probably tend to be underrated in phantom drafts, but for those who have seen him play a bit, it is pretty obvious that he is high quality. I don't agree at all with people who argue his light frame will worry potential recruiters. He holds his feet very well in close, and seems to be able to match most of his opponents for strength. People his height who are maybe five to ten kilos heavier don't necessarily have more functional body mass.

You can build muscle mass pretty quick, you can't as easily develop his elite kicking and decision making skills or his courage. Plus, what he lacks in strength he more than makes up for in workrate and endurance. I reckon he will kill the time trial and beep test at the combine, and should test well for speed and agility also.

#30 – Fremantle: Jake Kolodjashnij – Defender – (191cm/88kg)
Brother of the highly rated Kade in this year crop. Been playing predominantly as a CHB. Others have doubts that he will be anything more than a third tall at the next level.

Found this very interesting. Personally I find Jake's draft chances hard to judge. I'd say he is a strong chance, but not 100% confident he will go in the first two rounds. But it is hard to say. His kicking can tend to let him down sometimes, but he isn't a horrible kick and he does take the game on coming off the back line. I tend to be in the camp who sees him more as the third tall, rather than a genuine KPD, but will be happy to be proven wrong. I likened him a little to Colin Garland in the type of role I see him being best suited to playing down the track.

Will Zac Webster figure in your later rounds?

Garland is a nice comparison, you have no doubt seen more of him than I have.

Zac Webster will be amongst the first few picks of my third round.

Nice. I probably have him around that stage as well. 40-60. I was hoping he'd have a big champs, but he has been pretty good, but without quite reaching the level I was expecting him to before the champs began. He has slipped a fraction in how I rank the Tassie prospects.

How do you rank the tassie boys?
KK
Templeton
Nankervis
Webster
JK ?

In terms of their draft position, that's about right. KK and Templeton are the two clear standouts for me. Regardless of where they are taken, I think both could have very solid AFL careers. Both could be first rounders, it gets a less clear after that. Nankervis will most likely get drafted, but no clue where he will go. It is hard to know with ruck prospects. Wouldn't think he'd go higher than mid to late second round though. JK and Webster are probably both around the 40 mark with neither a dead set certainty to be drafted, though I'd be a surprised if they didn't.

Then you have a bunch of guys like Pearce, Grey, and Smith who could go as well. Grey will be an interesting one. He had a good champs, but could really elevate his chances if he keeps up his TSL form and gets himself to the combine.

Just out of interest...........what did Adelaide do to lose their Draft Picks????

Well first of all I am going to assume your kidding. In case your not, they lost them due to draft tampering and salary cap breaches to do with the whole Kurt Tippet scenario. For that Kurt Tippett was suspended for the first 11 games of the year and Adelaide was fined ans lost their 1st and 2nd round draft picks.

Yeah........I just wanted to hear it again.........for old times sake.

Great effort by the way.
For what it's worth, if things fell as you have them, I would have to ponder long over Scharenberg vs Sheed for the Lions first pick.
And, although I did like what I saw of Darcy Hourigan in the Champs, I would have taken Mitchell Harvey for the second pick.

Just lending my thoughts - interested to see your take on the ensuing rounds.

Freeman will end up being a mid-late first rounder when I get around to updating picks and adding the 3rd and 4th rounds.

If WC were to try and get a mid with elite pace, clearance ability and disposal, which is what I think they'll be after, do you think they'd reach for Freeman?

Or is he just not worth a top 10 pick? What are the issues stopping him for being a top 10 pick?

From what I have seen of Freeman his kicking can be a bit up a down but you can expect that from someone who doesn't have much of an outside game, which affects his kicking at times and his ability to get more of the ball.

It was one of the first stories on the muted trading for the number 1 pick.
Then it became a free for all.

Do you have a link? Can;t find anything. Cheers.

ROUND 2.

#21 – Brisbane Lions: Darcy Hourigan – KPF – (192cm/92kg)
Was pretty good for the AIS-AFL Academy squad over in Europe this year. Been playing for South Adelaide in the reserves this year and has kicked 11 goals in 4 games. Good contested mark, his kicking skills are good and plays taller than what he is. It’s unlikely but it would be great if he can add a couple for cm’s to his frame. Has been going good in the Champs and is a chance to go top 15.

Another high profile WA midfielder heading to Queensland :D except not the Suns this time

Good job Cotters. The amount of excitement from me if West Coast landed Scharenberg would probably see the Eagles board go into meltdown. I'm a big fan of his and IMO he is the number 1 pick

I'll be interested to see if Reynolds and Acres do go as high as you think they will (12 and 13) because i've got them both going mid to late second round. Will also be interested if Freeman slides to late second round. Conlon is a draftee I've heard a bit about but Marsh and McCarthy are all the rage in WA obviously. Reading Conlon's profile do you think the Bulldogs might be more inclined to select Cam McCarthy?

Cheers.

There will be a few changes when I get time to put another round or so up. And hopefully add some more info to the first and second rounds.

I think Freeman is highly overrated on here.

Conlon not playing in the champs to to injury won't do him any favors. I'd certainly take McCarthy ahead of him. But like I said, there's still a few changes to come. :thumbsu:

I completely agree with Aish being the number 1 pick, have watched him play a bit since he was 15 and I rate him as one of the best talents to come out of south australia in a long time. All rounded player and a great kid, future captain. Also wondering the reasoning is behind Luke Dunstan at pick 2? really rate the kid but not sure he is top 2 material.
