"Fatigue" is a bigger issue than ever, Carlton have lead by as much as 40 points every game this year then faded badly. In every game you see players in the second half staggering around exhausted.

The game plan every team has had since about 2005 is all 36 players sprint up and down the field for the duration. Considering only 1 player can have the ball at one time that means 35 players are just doing continuous 100m sprints for a pay check. No wonder players freely admit the game isn't fun, it's just a highly paid job, like working in a mine.

What's the worst that could happen if a team just decided to keep players in position and not make them sprint for nothing. Maybe they would give up an easy goal when the opposition creates 8 vs 6 in the f50 every now and again. But if there's a turnover suddenly you are kicking the ball back to your forward line with the same advantage and forwards who aren't exhausted.

The game has always evolved, remember when handballing was simply not done. Kicking sideways was the greatest sin, and kicking backwards didn't even have a name because... why the hell would anyone ever kick backwards? Will the game ever evolve again or is this it?

Yes, I'm furious at watching professional athletes running as well. I always envisaged football perfection as more of a stationary thing.

Its not about what you want to see you spanner, it's about what gives a team the best chance to win. Happy employees perform better than sad ones. Maybe let people play again instead of "OK your role tonight is to do 100 x 100m sprints for no reason"

But anyway the run up and down all match tactics were invented in the early 2000s, if AFL can't evolve in 20 years it's a dumb game that deserves to rot along with supporters like you
