As David Teague finished his first session as Carlton's caretaker coach on Tuesday, Stephen Silvagni and Ross Lyon sat down for fish and chips on Lygon Street.

Restaurant watchers suggest both sushi and dim sims arrived at the table in the centre of the well-known Sea Salt Fish Cafe, next door to the Nova Cinema in the centre of Carlton.

While the timing of the catch-up is sure to raise eyebrows, it was an innocent meeting between two close friends.

More than just good mates, Silvagni and Lyon are also business partners; both own part of the Lord Newry Hotel in North Fitzroy.

But Lyon has also found himself on a public shortlist of coaches that Carlton should be looking at, after the Blues sacked Brendon Bolton on Monday.

Lyon has publicly stated his desire to stay as coach of Fremantle and extend his deal beyond the end of next season.

Lyon is in Melbourne for Tuesday night's AFL Hall of Fame dinner and will spend more time in Melbourne seeing family as Fremantle have the bye this weekend.

I actually think Ross has Freo in a reasonably good place, through the worst and ready to go and wouldn’t go anywhere let alone Carlton.
That’s not being a smartarse about Carlton either I genuinely think Freo have shown some really good signs of long term improvement and good times ahead.
