Would there be any point ?

Just suppose it is proven beyond doubt that even if there is a god, the reward of afterlife is a myth - ie does not exist.

Would any of you who do believe in cod for certain, still be disposed to be a 'believer'

I'll take Kerry Packer's word for it. Commenting on his experience of a few years back (he was clinically dead for a period), the goanna said

"I've been to the other side son, and there's nothing effing there!"

Well it'd be pretty difficult since most of Christ's teachings would be placed in doubt. However science cannot disprove such a thing, so there is no reason to doubt the promise of eternal life for those who will trust in God.

No afterlife for Kerry Packer? Well who would have thought.

If it was proven beyond doubt, then christians etc would claim that it was written in the Bible all along that there was no afterlife and they would come up with a new reason for the purpose of existance.

Obviously of course many religous heads care little for proof no matter how overwhelming it is and prefer to live by 'sacred' text.

The irony is, that if you don't believe in God, you're guaranteed an "afterlife" (via reincarnation)!

God is the Universal Consciousness.

To achieve Enlightenment, is to eliminate the cause of suffering (which is desire) and reach Nirvana.

Nirvana literally means to extinguish the flames; to stop the causes of life (lives) here in this Universe (the Samsara) and return to the original consciousness. It means to elliminate the illusionary concept of the self.

So it is possible to believe in a higher consciousness, without having to have a self interested outcome at the end of it. Again, the whole reason we're here is to eliminate self interest, so it stands to reason, that it is actually essential that we do not desire a reward at the end of it!

Buddah remained silent on God and afterlife. He was smart enough to know that dangling a carrot in front of people, would simply lead to hightened desire and would thus completely ruin the point of his teachings and steer future followers down the wrong path. I think that's a major problem with most of the other religions, especially the ones stemming from the mid-east.

Buddhism has many good teachings for how one should live, however without Christ it is useless. For Jesus said: I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6.

Putting your trust in reincarnation is dangerous as it has the potential to earn you eternal condemnation, as does the worship of man made gods. It would be wise to turn away from these practices that conflict with the teachings of Christ.

You idiot, that is complete rubbish.

Once again you dumb Christians think you are perfect and your God is the only way, and the only proof you have with your God is a bible you thump and say it is the word. Foolish idiot.

Brought up in a Buddist household, I refute your claim and believe in my Princes teachings before your Christ. Your Christ is just a fairy tale where Buddah was a real man who saw the real suffering in the world and joined those who suffered. All your God and Jesus does is cause suffering and spread hatred towards other religions.

Damn Christians...they are the most hypocritical, gullible, fear spreading, intolerant people on this planet and I for one believe they are more dangerous Than any other faith.

So, because you believe it is in the bible, it must be true? Apart from your bible, what other proof do you have?????? Your bible is nothing but a fairy tale full of propaganda and lies. You can keep your book of lies.

Name a Christian country where it is illegal to convert to another religion on the pain of death. Most intolerant my arse.

"I am the most tops bloke in the world. All sheilas should lay down in worship of me." - Adrian Appleyard, at some point in grade 11.

See? Anyone can do it! If it's written down, it must be true!

Science cannot disprove that the Tigers will win the flag in 2005 or that blue elephants are flying around on red camels in another galaxy. Therefore both will and are happening.

That logic is about the same you tool.

PMSL. You are a classic Birdy.
Would you like some raisins on your fruit loops ?
Surely even you can see the irony in this post.

Ive just done some searching on freaky bible quotes as I am inspired by Birdy's preaching. There is some sick, sick, sick stuff in there that you could throw at any bible basher like Birdy and he would have no answer. None.

How do you ignore that nasty stuff Birdy... How ?

Re: Could you believe in God if there was no afterlife ?

You know its amazing how many people who are in a "terminal" situation suddenly find god after denying his exhistance their entire lives. I guess it gives them hope that there is something to come after and maybe helps them to cope with their fears.

Religion to me is a personal choice. One that should be freely made without any pressure or coercement (sp?) from anyone else. I went through a period earlier in my life where I looked into most religions. Something along the lines of a personal journey to find out who I was and what I believed (typical young person stuff  ). I found buddhism (especially Zen) to be one of the nicer religions btw.

Personally "Atheist" is the title I mostly use if I am pressured into a category. I have no desire to have my life ruled by fear or religious diatribe & have no wish to be "saved". I'm simply happy being me.

Is this what your buddha teaches you? Such profane and filthy lies? Does buddha teach you to spread hatred and then accuse others of the same by these acts of hypocrisy? Only a fool or one who has been severely misled could speak such wickedness against followers of Christ. I suggest you recognise this and repent now.
