Heard this morn on sport 927 that Sheedy reckons our next big thing is 6'4 rookie Courtney Johns, talk of him being a 200 game player for us. The kid has struggled with injuries so doesn't play too often apparently. Has anyone seen him play in the magoos - is the hype justified?

Oh you better belive its justified!!! He is an absolute TANK, spitting image of Mark Johnson just bigger (a HULK version of him). And I do belive he will be a gun for us in the next couple of years. He did have a hip injury which I thought would put him out for the year but it wasnt that bad. There is something about him, you will see it in him when you see him play.

hmmm..sounds like we ought to elevate the talented bastard at year's end.

I thought we had a spare spot to elevate him now? Cut-off must be getting close though

Only one problem with Johns - he can;t kick for schit. He is a tall leading forward and is a big boy. He knows when to lead and can get it, but he kicks like a backman - otherwise he would be playing senior footy. Think of barnard only 10 times better.

PS I don;t rate Barnard anymore so my rating is he could be a good solid player for us.

I want that spot to go to Ben Haynes. How is he performing back from injury? Is their anywhere to get Bendigo's stats they don't have them at essendofc anymore.

I've heard Bannister is out for the season now.....I'm tipping he will now be put onto the long term injury list now and someone will get promoted.....can we promote two rookies if we had a spot before the injury and now with Bannisters spot?

From what i heard they are easing Johns through the season so his injury doesn't flare up, playing him one week on, one week off. By the sounds of it he wouldn't get a senior berth this year so i don't think there's much point promoting him at this stage.

Apparently Courtney was expected to go in the top20 in the draft last year. Then he did his hip and everyone ran away. Word is that many medical people didn't think he would ever play the game again.

However, if the kid can get over that injury there are very few that doubt he could be a handy key position forward.

You'll probably find Essendon will promote Haynes this year and maintain him on the list for the following season. Courtney has another year to go on the rookie list and I think Essendon will keep him on that list until he proves he can handle the week in week out pressures of footy. But if he holds up, and is as good as what they say, then he will have a senior spot by 2005

P-L, I happen to know a bit about this kid & let me assure you he can kick. 9 months out of the game causes a bit of "rust" which he'll soon knock off. He's as straight as Lloydy & IMHO, longer. Give him time.
He doesn't have another year on the rookie list - only one year rookie contracts these days.

This lad can play.... dont worry about that, if he didnt have the bad injury last yr he was a top 10 choice!!! I no that the bombers are thinkin this could be the recruit of the yr if he can live up to expectations!!! He's massive, hard at it, and kicks the ball a long way...and is a team player, unlike some in our first's at the moment!!
