Same situation for any club - he's 28 now, you wouldn't get him until he was 29 and THEN you'd have to hope he was over whatever habits he has now. It would be quite a gamble given his playing span would be 4 years at best, 1 at worst.

Although I agree with you an opposing argument would say that Gardiner, who from what we can tell is just as bad, if not worse than Cousins was a worse footballer and in worse shape (injuries, age) but still got a gig at a club somewhere.

i would go for cuz in a heartbeat!! he still has the goods i think!! i mean look at last year... still had a pretty damn good year if he was messing around with illegal substances. as long as he got the help for that side of things, i would have him in our starting line up for round one next year!!

If Cousins leaves west coast, it is quite likely that there will be an explosion of West coast midfielders leaving. We'd want to get wet in that shower, but there will be better prospects on offer: Judd or a cleaned-up Kerr for example.

Actually its pretty horrible to speculate about. I hope Cousins gets cleaned up and stays with the Eagles.

Its an interesting one to consider as Cousins is now something of a "damaged" player. His recent run of misdemeanours has really tainted him and has hurt his value. The fact that West Coast had suspended him indefinitely says a lot to me. He's been something of a loyal servant to that club for so long and was a key part in their premiership and yet they've hit him hard. I still rate him, but I'm not sure whether I want to see him in black and white stripes. On one hand you have this 28 year old (I think he's 28) work horse that tears the game apart. On the other you have a guy that just doesn't learn from his mistakes and at 28 you would expect a lot more maturity. His behaviour is the sort that you would look at rookie and think that the should be more mature.

I would be against the Pies going for him because I know it would take too much to get him. We're 3-4 years away from being a genuine shot at a premiership which means he'll be 31-32 when we're looking to make our run. I'd say at that point we wouldn't be getting that much out of him.

Cousins won't come to collingwood,he'll be back playing with the eagles soon.
If i had my choice, judd or kerr to collingwood, both these players have a very high work rate and it would be just what the pies need,to add into the midfield. No one will stop us then.

Agree totally with Mooney. At 29 you would still have to pay a heavy price (trades/picks) to secure him. As great as a player he is would prefer that if we were going to give up the world to get a gun mid would be better targetting Judd/Kerr who still have plenty of years to go.

Good point. Given his importance to the WC midfield (no wonder Worsefold was choked up!), will this start a slow exodus from WC ala Brisbane since 04? It only takes one piece of the puzzle to be missing for the wheels to start to wobble (mixed metaphor sorry). I don't think anyone will get Judd or Kerr, but those other 2 are going to have to work hard to fill the gap left by Cousins, however long that lasts. Big ramifications for all. How good is this game, just when you think you have seen it all some crazy kid comes up with something like this. Who has seen the movie "Any Given Sunday?" Someone has to make an AFL version.

Ummm darling, we have one of the highest scoring forward lines in the AFL so buzz off.
