A number of top athlete's have been addicts and have continued to perform well.

Can you name some please??
Diago Maradonna
George Best
Don Rogers (although he did die of a cocaine related condition)
I think there are many cases in American football and baseball (especially cocaine) but I guess these sports are not really "hard running" sports.

The IOC classifies most "recreational" drugs as performance enhancing although I do think that these drugs would only have a positive impact on performance in certain sports and when taken in a controlled mannor.

Its a bit different. Maradona Best would of barely ran 2kms in a match. Cousins is the fittest player in the AFL and regularly runs 15km+.

I agree (although Best was quite a hard running player) this is not directly comparable. I was only giving some examples of payers who had performed at an elete level whilst having a dependency. I am not saying that because these guys had success in sport while having a dependency, it means that it is possible for an AFL midfielder to function with a dependency - I think that the level of physical effort is quite different.

I guess maybe my understanding of addiction and dependency etc may be limited but I think that a dependency may not necissarily mean a chemical addiction and therefore maybe someone can have a really heavy binge once in a while. If a player often misses training early in the week, then maybe this is the case. Clearly, this sort of behaviour can mess up your life.

I am not implying that this is the case with Cousins.

Wrong. Gooding in fact said " if may be a week, it may be a month, it may be 12 months". A bit different to saying " he may be out for up to 12 months".
The news source I read quoted "up to 12 months" . I can only comment on what I read.

This was the quote from an article on your BF web page: (From ABC online)

Dalton Gooding says Ben Cousins may be out of the team for up to a year.

Wheres my apology alphanumeric. I'm still waiting. When you make a mistake just admit it, say sorry and move on. :D
