Get him.

Superstar midfielders with amazing leadership abilities dont come along that often, let alone right at the time you're young midfield is beginning to develop.

Anyway, I dont give a damn about occasional drug use in afl players, especially in the off season. The only thing he should be responsible for is playing as well as he can without performance enhancing drugs. Fact is, AFL footballers can't drink: it ruins their diet, they can't smoke: it ruins their breathing capacity. What the hell can they do?

Anyway, in summary we shouldn't get Cousins because he is an idiot. The drugs he was using were both detectable and damaging to his health. If he really needs a high why doesnt he just do ketamine. Its near impossible to test for, it doesnt have any proven long term negative physical effects. This is why we should go for kerr. He knows whats up.

I was anti Cous when he was a crack-head, now my mind has changed completely. I'd much rather JON, Tambling, Edwards, Polo etc watching this guy in action on the training track and ground than learning off the like of Bowden and Tivendale.

Too much scrutiny on him now to f*** up and get away with it.

Get him in.

Agree with Harvey originally against it... but now if we had a chance to get him, and passed up and then he went on to recapture form at another club I'd be filthy.

Would be different (I hope:o) at Tigerland in that he won't be the 'spiritual leader' so to speak whereas he was the prodigal son and heart and soul of the West Coast club.

Just watching this bloke flog the shit out of himself (in a footy sense:D) would surely be a good example. If any Tiger player is dumb enough to follow what Cousins did at West Coast just because he plays at Richmond.....

If he was
1. Mentally stable
2. Physically fit (supposedly he's still in mint condition)

Ofcourse you'd ____ing take him!

He's an amazing on field leader. I still remember when he got stripped of the captaincy and Juddy took over. At the end of the Grand Final he was the one the players rallied behind and he was the one that pumped the Cup in the air.

And an amazing off field player .... IMO we are starting to build good young group ,, not setting the world on fire ,,, but getting there..

Makes you wonder why judd left the west ... ( we all know it was family reasons ) but another 8 years on he would have been back in melbourne anyway)

Captains of clubs dont often walk away unless something is up ( and we know West Coasts past history )

So a big no from me ...

Big yes from me, but at the right price.

Forgetting the Drug culture, he is an unbelievable player. Could really have an impact in his spell at Richmond (whether it is 1-4 years). We could be the club that "gives second chances"...

In saying that, i would not give up alot. If he was there for the PSD then yes i would get him. It also depends on his wage salary. If it is astronomical, rather not. If it is resonable. YES!!!!

surely he couldn't go around with his chest out demanding these large pay packets. He is/was/will be my favourtie non-tiger player and I was hoping we would be able to snare him at the end of last year.

I would like to think that if we gave him a second chance he would be extremely grateful. Would work his ass of anyway but he may stay on after his few years is up and work with our midfielders as a coaching/mentoring (game day) kind of roll. I lovvvveeee Benny Cousins

I used to have a housemate that was a chef and on coke. He was able to work himself unbelievably hard. He'd work 14 hours a day 6 days a week. Then his world came crumbling down. Cousins might well be no different. It was the drugs that gave him the ability to flog himself.

It would be worth drafting if on match payments alone so if he relapses or is useless without the drugs, it is no great loss.

Hypothetically the PSD comes around and Ben Cousins has nominated and is still eligible at our pick do you call out his name? I think it would be worth a crack as long as we have interviewed him and decided if he is fixed or not.

He could really help our midfield development as players not humans and it would help us have that one last tilt at finals and an unexpected prem for the great Richoman.

worth a crack? i would sack the lot of them if they didnt swoop and get him. ;)

Like I said in my OP i think it would be worth a crack! I dont know if WCE would ever accept him back in any role at their club so the next team that gets their hands on him may enjoy the riches past his playing days if he has any aspirations. (Which I doubt he has any.)

A second chance? It would be his 1000th chance, and he blew every single one of them at the Eagles. People who think he could be any different at the Tigers do not know what a drug addiction is like.

having just managed to crawl out of the opium den that is west coast i doubt he's gonna play AFL where he's gonna get payed a shitload and then incur the same probability of him relapsing back into old habits

the best way for him to overcome his addiction/s would be to say away from the large disposable income and the "rockstar" styled image associated with AFL players
he's an idiot if he signs himself up for the 2 main environmental factors that precipitated his addictions in the first place

Bring Ben Cousins to Richmond and watch him LEAD our young stars to greater heights.

I trust our players to be responsible. In fact, we have recruited with a strong emphasis towards getting mature and focused people to the club.

Even if Ben was still playing up in the off-season, I would still take him.

4 years of Cousins running around with Deledio, Foley, Cotchin, Tambling, Coughlan, Connors, Edwards, Polo, White, etc is a recipe for success!

I've been friends with people who were drug users before, did they hold me down and force me into destroying my life?! It is ridiculous to think it happens like that. I've never even considered thinking about it!

The ONLY bad thing about Cousins is the bad press it would bring if he isn't perceived as "squeeky clean".

The on and off field benefits of this great, great leader of a man (who actually IS a champion player too, unlike Kane Johnson who is just a great leader) far outweight any 'negative consequences'. Would you turn down Buddy too? He brings just as many perceived consequences.

Tambling running alongside Cousins all pre-season would make Tambling a better player. Foley could learn a thing or two off him! Deledio would be freed up even more. Cotchin unstoppable.

Richo plays on expecting success.

I would consider a 2nd Round Pick in the ND for him depending on draft depth.

Youre posting on BF of course it has affected you, but seriously if he was available i would take him........Teflon Terry would ensure no bad press

heres an OT question: if cuz comes back does his DT/SC price go back to that of a rookie's?

you'd be mad not to get him.

edit: (what happened to dew's price?)

It would be a mistake to NOT talk to him. I very much doubt he would want to play for us anyway, but yeah there is no harm in talking to him and working him out.
